1(H4-14) Ora, o figliuola di schiere, raduna le tue schiere! Ci cingono d’assedio: colpiscon con la verga la guancia del giudice d’Israele!
2(H5-1) Ma da te, o Bethlehem Efrata, piccola per essere tra i migliaia di Giuda, da te mi uscirà colui che sarà dominatore in Israele, le cui origini risalgono ai tempi antichi, ai giorni eterni.
3(H5-2) Perciò egli li darà in man dei loro nemici, fino al tempo in cui colei che deve partorire, partorirà; e il resto de’ suoi fratelli tornerà a raggiungere i figliuoli d’Israele.
4(H5-3) Egli starà là e pascerà il suo gregge colla forza dell’Eterno, colla maestà del nome dell’Eterno, del suo Dio. E quelli dimoreranno in pace, perché allora ei sarà grande fino all’estremità della terra.
5(H5-4) E sarà lui che recherà la pace. Quando l’Assiro verrà nel nostro paese, e metterà il piede nei nostri palazzi, noi faremo sorgere contro di lui sette pastori e otto principi di fra il popolo.
6(H5-5) Essi pasceranno il paese dell’Assiro con la spada, e la terra di Nimrod nelle sue proprie città; ed egli ci libererà dall’Assiro, quando questi verrà nel nostro paese, e metterà il piede nei nostri confini.
7(H5-6) Il resto di Giacobbe sarà, in mezzo a molti popoli, come una rugiada che vien dall’Eterno, come una fitta pioggia sull’erba, le quali non aspettano ordine d’uomo, e non dipendono dai figliuoli degli uomini.
8(H5-7) Il resto di Giacobbe sarà fra le nazioni, in mezzo a molti popoli, come un leone tra le bestie della foresta, come un leoncello fra i greggi di pecore, il quale, quando passa, calpesta e sbrana, senza che alcuno possa liberare.
9(H5-8) Si levi la tua mano sopra i tuoi avversari, e tutti i tuoi nemici siano sterminati!
10(H5-9) E in quel giorno avverrà, dice l’Eterno, che io sterminerò i tuoi cavalli in mezzo a te, e distruggerò i tuoi carri;
11(H5-10) sterminerò le città del tuo paese, e atterrerò tutte le tue fortezze;
12(H5-11) sterminerò dalla tua mano i sortilegi, e tu non avrai più pronosticatori;
13(H5-12) sterminerò in mezzo a te le tue immagini scolpite e le tue statue, e tu non ti prostrerai più davanti all’opera delle tue mani.
14(H5-13) Io estirperò di mezzo a te i tuoi idoli d’Astarte, e distruggerò le tue città.
15(H5-14) E farò vendetta nella mia ira e nel mio furore delle nazioni che non avran dato ascolto.

1REÚNETE ahora en bandas, oh hija de bandas: nos han sitiado: con vara herirán sobre la quijada al juez de Israel.
2Mas tú, Beth-lehem Ephrata, pequeña para ser en los millares de Judá, de ti me saldrá el que será Señor en Israel; y sus salidas son desde el principio, desde los días del siglo.
3Empero los dejará hasta el tiempo que para la que ha de parir; y el resto de sus hermanos se tornará con los hijos de Israel.
4Y estará, y apacentará con fortaleza de Jehová, con grandeza del nombre de Jehová su Dios: y asentarán; porque ahora será engrandecido hasta los fines de la tierra.
5Y éste será nuestra paz. Cuando Assur viniere á nuestra tierra, y cuando pisare nuestros palacios, entonces levantaremos contra él siete pastores, y ocho hombres principales;
6Y comerán la tierra de Assur á cuchillo, y la tierra de Nimrod con sus espadas: y nos librará del Asirio, cuando viniere contra nuestra tierra y hollare nuestros términos.
7Y será el residuo de Jacob en medio de muchos pueblos, como el rocío de Jehová, como las lluvias sobre la hierba, las cuales no esperan varón, ni aguardan á hijos de hombres.
8Asimismo será el resto de Jacob entre las gentes, en medio de muchos pueblos, como el león entre las bestias de la montaña, como el cachorro del león entre las manadas de las ovejas, el cual si pasare, y hollare, y arrebatare, no hay quien escape.
9Tu mano se alzará sobre tus enemigos, y todos tus adversarios serán talados.
10Y acontecerá en aquel día, dice Jehová, que haré matar tus caballos de en medio de ti, y haré destruir tus carros.
11Haré también destruir las ciudades de tu tierra, y arruinaré todas tus fortalezas.
12Asimismo destruiré de tu mano las hechicerías, y no se hallarán en ti agoreros.
13Y haré destruir tus esculturas y tus imágenes de en medio de ti, y nunca más te inclinarás á la obra de tus manos;
14Y arrancaré tus bosques de en medio de ti, y destruiré tus ciudades.
15Y con ira y con furor haré venganza en las gentes que no escucharon.

1Now gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us: they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.
2But thou, Beth-lehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
3Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel.
4And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.
5And this man shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men.
6And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders.
7And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many people as a dew from the LORD, as the showers upon the grass, that tarrieth not for man, nor waiteth for the sons of men.
8And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the Gentiles in the midst of many people as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep: who, if he go through, both treadeth down, and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver.
9Thine hand shall be lifted up upon thine adversaries, and all thine enemies shall be cut off.
10And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD, that I will cut off thy horses out of the midst of thee, and I will destroy thy chariots:
11And I will cut off the cities of thy land, and throw down all thy strong holds:
12And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thine hand; and thou shalt have no more soothsayers:
13Thy graven images also will I cut off, and thy standing images out of the midst of thee; and thou shalt no more worship the work of thine hands.
14And I will pluck up thy groves out of the midst of thee: so will I destroy thy cities.
15And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury upon the heathen, such as they have not heard.
World English Bible
1Now you shall gather yourself in troops, daughter of troops. He has laid siege against us. They will strike the judge of Israel with a rod on the cheek.
2But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, being small among the clans of Judah, out of you one will come out to me who is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings out are from of old, from ancient times.
3Therefore he will abandon them until the time that she who is in labor gives birth. Then the rest of his brothers will return to the children of Israel.
4He shall stand, and shall shepherd in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God. They will live, for then he will be great to the ends of the earth.
5He will be our peace when Assyria invades our land and when he marches through our fortresses, then we will raise against him seven shepherds, and eight leaders of men.
6They will rule the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in its gates. He will deliver us from the Assyrian, when he invades our land, and when he marches within our border.
7The remnant of Jacob will be among many peoples like dew from the LORD, like showers on the grass, that don’t wait for man nor wait for the sons of men.
8The remnant of Jacob will be among the nations, among many peoples, like a lion among the animals of the forest, like a young lion among the flocks of sheep; who, if he goes through, treads down and tears in pieces, and there is no one to deliver.
9Let your hand be lifted up above your adversaries, and let all of your enemies be cut off.
10“It will happen in that day”, says the LORD, “that I will cut off your horses from among you and will destroy your chariots.
11I will cut off the cities of your land and will tear down all your strongholds.
12I will destroy witchcraft from your hand. You shall have no soothsayers.
13I will cut off your engraved images and your pillars from among you; and you shall no more worship the work of your hands.
14I will uproot your Asherah poles from among you; and I will destroy your cities.
15I will execute vengeance in anger and wrath on the nations that didn’t listen.”
