1En aquellos días, de nuevo había una gran multitud que no tenía qué comer. Jesús llamó a sus discípulos y les dijo:
2―Siento compasión de la gente, porque ya llevan tres días aquí y se les ha acabado la comida.
3Si los envío sin comer, se desmayarán en el camino porque muchos han venido de lejos.
4―Y en un lugar desierto como este, ¿dónde se podrá encontrar alimentos para darles de comer? —protestaron los discípulos.
5―¿Cuántos panes tienen? —les preguntó. ―Siete —respondieron.
6Pidió a la multitud que se sentara en el suelo. Luego tomó los siete panes, dio gracias a Dios por ellos, los partió y los fue pasando a los discípulos. Los discípulos a su vez los fueron distribuyendo.
7Encontraron también unos pescaditos. Jesús los bendijo y pidió a los discípulos que los repartieran.
8Todos comieron y se hartaron. Al terminar, recogieron siete cestas de alimentos que sobraron;
9y eran como cuatro mil los que comieron. Después Jesús los despidió.
10Acto seguido se embarcó con sus discípulos hacia la región de Dalmanuta.
11Allí llegaron los fariseos y empezaron a discutir con él. Para ponerlo a prueba le dijeron: ―Haz alguna señal en el cielo.
12Y él, suspirando profundamente, respondió: ―¿Por qué pide esta gente una señal? Les aseguro que no se le dará ninguna.
13Entonces los dejó y se embarcó de nuevo. Esta vez se fue al otro lado del lago.
14A los discípulos se les olvidó comprar alimentos antes de salir, y sólo tenían un pan en la barca.
15Jesús les advirtió: ―¡Cuidado con la levadura del rey Herodes y la de los fariseos!
16Los discípulos se preguntaban intrigados: ¿Se referirá a que se nos olvidó el pan?
17Jesús, que sabía lo que estaban comentando, les dijo: ―¿Por qué están hablando de que no tienen pan? ¿Todavía no ven ni entienden? ¿Tienen el corazón tan endurecido?
18¿Acaso tienen ojos y no ven, y oídos y no escuchan? ¿Ya no se acuerdan de
19que alimenté a cinco mil hombres con cinco panes? ¿Cuántas cestas llenas sobraron? ―Doce— contestaron.
20―Y cuando alimenté a los cuatro mil con siete panes, ¿qué sobró? ―Siete cestas llenas —le respondieron.
21―¿Y todavía no entienden? —les dijo.
22Llegaron luego a Betsaida; le llevaron a un ciego y le rogaron que lo tocara.
23Jesús tomó al ciego de la mano y lo sacó del pueblo. Una vez fuera, le mojó los ojos con saliva y le puso las manos encima. ―¿Ves algo ahora? —le preguntó.
24El hombre miró a su alrededor. ―¡Sí! —dijo—. Veo gente y parecen como árboles que caminan.
25Jesús le colocó de nuevo las manos sobre los ojos, y el hombre miró fijamente y pudo ver todo con claridad.
26Jesús le ordenó que regresara con su familia. ―No entres en el pueblo —le dijo.
27Jesús y sus discípulos siguieron hacia los pueblos de Cesarea de Filipo. En el camino les preguntó: ―¿Quién cree la gente que soy?
28―Algunos dicen que eres Juan el Bautista —le respondieron—; y otros afirman que eres Elías o uno de los profetas.
29―¿Y quién creen ustedes que soy? Pedro le respondió: ―¡Tú eres el Mesías!
30Jesús les mandó que no se lo dijeran a nadie.
31Y empezó a enseñarles que era necesario que el Hijo del hombre sufriera mucho y que iba a ser rechazado por los ancianos, los jefes de los sacerdotes y los maestros de la ley. Les dijo también que lo matarían, pero resucitaría después de tres días.
32Con tanta franqueza les habló, que Pedro lo llamó aparte y lo reprendió.
33Pero Jesús le volvió la espalda y, mirando a los otros discípulos, reprendió a Pedro: ―¡Apártate de mí, Satanás! ¡Estás mirando las cosas como las ven los hombres y no como las ve Dios!
34Dicho esto, llamó a la multitud junto con sus discípulos y añadió: ―Si alguno quiere venir en pos de mí, niéguese a sí mismo, tome su cruz y sígame.
35El que se afana por salvar su vida, la perderá. Pero los que pierden su vida por mi causa y por la causa del evangelio, la salvarán.
36»¿De qué le sirve a una persona ganarse el mundo entero si pierde su vida?
37¿Qué se puede dar a cambio de la vida?
38Si alguien se avergüenza de mí y de mi mensaje en medio de esta gente incrédula y pecadora, el Hijo del hombre se avergonzará de él cuando venga en la gloria de su Padre con los santos ángeles.

1EN aquellos días, como hubo gran gentío, y no tenían qué comer, Jesús llamó á sus discípulos, y les dijo:
2Tengo compasión de la multitud, porque ya hace tres días que están conmigo, y no tienen qué comer:
3Y si los enviare en ayunas á sus casas, desmayarán en el camino; porque algunos de ellos han venido de lejos.
4Y sus discípulos le respondieron: ¿De dónde podrá alguien hartar á estos de pan aquí en el desierto?
5Y les preguntó: ¿Cuántos panes tenéis? Y ellos dijeron: Siete.
6Entonces mandó á la multitud que se recostase en tierra; y tomando los siete panes, habiendo dado gracias, partió, y dió á sus discípulos que los pusiesen delante: y los pusieron delante á la multitud.
7Tenían también unos pocos pececillos: y los bendijo, y mandó que también los pusiesen delante.
8Y comieron, y se hartaron: y levantaron de los pedazos que habían sobrado, siete espuertas.
9Y eran los que comieron, como cuatro mil: y los despidió.
10Y luego entrando en el barco con sus discípulos, vino á las partes de Dalmanutha.
11Y vinieron los Fariseos, y comenzaron á altercar con él, pidiéndole señal del cielo, tentándole.
12Y gimiendo en su espíritu, dice: ¿Por qué pide señal esta generación? De cierto os digo que no se dará señal á esta generación.
13Y dejándolos, volvió á entrar en el barco, y se fué de la otra parte.
14Y se habían olvidado de tomar pan, y no tenían sino un pan consigo en el barco.
15Y les mandó, diciendo: Mirad, guardaos de la levadura de los Fariseos, y de la levadura de Herodes.
16Y altercaban los unos con los otros diciendo: Pan no tenemos.
17Y como Jesús lo entendió, les dice: ¿Qué altercáis, porque no tenéis pan? ¿no consideráis ni entendéis? ¿aun tenéis endurecido vuestro corazón?
18¿Teniendo ojos no veis, y teniendo oídos no oís? ¿y no os acordáis?
19Cuando partí los cinco panes entre cinco mil, ¿cuántas espuertas llenas de los pedazos alzasteis? Y ellos dijeron: Doce.
20Y cuando los siete panes entre cuatro mil, ¿cuántas espuertas llenas de los pedazos alzasteis? Y ellos dijeron: Siete.
21Y les dijo: ¿Cómo aun no entendéis?
22Y vino á Bethsaida; y le traen un ciego, y le ruegan que le tocase.
23Entonces, tomando la mano del ciego, le sacó fuera de la aldea; y escupiendo en sus ojos, y poniéndole las manos encima, le preguntó si veía algo.
24Y él mirando, dijo: Veo los hombres, pues veo que andan como árboles.
25Luego le puso otra vez las manos sobre sus ojos, y le hizo que mirase; y fué restablecido, y vió de lejos y claramente á todos.
26Y envióle á su casa, diciendo: No entres en la aldea, ni lo digas á nadie en la aldea.
27Y salió Jesús y sus discípulos por las aldeas de Cesarea de Filipo. Y en el camino preguntó á sus discípulos, diciéndoles: ¿Quién dicen los hombres que soy yo?
28Y ellos respondieron: Juan Bautista; y otros, Elías; y otros, Alguno de los profetas.
29Entonces él les dice: Y vosotros, ¿quién decís que soy yo? Y respondiendo Pedro, le dice: Tú eres el Cristo.
30Y les apercibió que no hablasen de él á ninguno.
31Y comenzó á enseñarles, que convenía que el Hijo del hombre padeciese mucho, y ser reprobado de los ancianos, y de los príncipes de los sacerdotes, y de los escribas, y ser muerto, y resucitar después de tres días.
32Y claramente decía esta palabra. Entonces Pedro le tomó, y le comenzó á reprender.
33Y él, volviéndose y mirando á sus discípulos, riñó á Pedro, diciendo: Apártate de mí, Satanás; porque no sabes las cosas que son de Dios, sino las que son de los hombres.
34Y llamando á la gente con sus discípulos, les dijo: Cualquiera que quisiere venir en pos de mí, niéguese á sí mismo, y tome su cruz, y sígame.
35Porque el que quisiere salvar su vida, la perderá; y el que perdiere su vida por causa de mí y del evangelio, la salvará.
36Porque ¿qué aprovechará al hombre, si granjeare todo el mundo, y pierde su alma?
37¿O qué recompensa dará el hombre por su alma?
38Porque el que se avergonzare de mí y de mis palabras en esta generación adulterina y pecadora, el Hijo del hombre se avergonzará también de él, cuando vendrá en la gloria de su Padre con los santos ángeles.

1In those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples unto him, and saith unto them,
2I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat:
3And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far.
4And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness?
5And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.
6And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did set them before the people.
7And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them.
8So they did eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets.
9And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and he sent them away.
10And straightway he entered into a ship with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha.
11And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him.
12And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.
13And he left them, and entering into the ship again departed to the other side.
14Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the ship with them more than one loaf.
15And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.
16And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread.
17And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened?
18Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?
19When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.
20And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.
21And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?
22And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him.
23And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.
24And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
25After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.
26And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.
27And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Cæsarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do men say that I am?
28And they answered, John the Baptist: but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets.
29And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.
30And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.
31And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
32And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.
33But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.
34And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
35For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.
36For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
37Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
38Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

1In those days, when there was a very great multitude, and they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to himself and said to them,
2“I have compassion on the multitude, because they have stayed with me now three days and have nothing to eat.
3If I send them away fasting to their home, they will faint on the way, for some of them have come a long way.”
4His disciples answered him, “From where could one satisfy these people with bread here in a deserted place?”
5He asked them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven.”
6He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground, and he took the seven loaves. Having given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to serve, and they served the multitude.
7They also had a few small fish. Having blessed them, he said to serve these also.
8They ate and were filled. They took up seven baskets of broken pieces that were left over.
9Those who had eaten were about four thousand. Then he sent them away.
10Immediately he entered into the boat with his disciples and came into the region of Dalmanutha.
11The Pharisees came out and began to question him, seeking from him a sign from heaven and testing him.
12He sighed deeply in his spirit and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Most certainly I tell you, no sign will be given to this generation.”
13He left them, and again entering into the boat, departed to the other side.
14They forgot to take bread; and they didn’t have more than one loaf in the boat with them.
15He warned them, saying, “Take heed: beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod.”
16They reasoned with one another, saying, “It’s because we have no bread.”
17Jesus, perceiving it, said to them, “Why do you reason that it’s because you have no bread? Don’t you perceive yet or understand? Is your heart still hardened?
18Having eyes, don’t you see? Having ears, don’t you hear? Don’t you remember?
19When I broke the five loaves among the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” They told him, “Twelve.”
20“When the seven loaves fed the four thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” They told him, “Seven.”
21He asked them, “Don’t you understand yet?”
22He came to Bethsaida. They brought a blind man to him and begged him to touch him.
23He took hold of the blind man by the hand, and brought him out of the village. When he had spat on his eyes, and laid his hands on him, he asked him if he saw anything.
24He looked up, and said, “I see men, but I see them like walking trees.”
25Then again he laid his hands on his eyes. He looked intently, and was restored, and saw everyone clearly.
26He sent him away to his house, saying, “Don’t enter into the village, nor tell anyone in the village.”
27Jesus went out, with his disciples, into the villages of Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked his disciples, “Who do men say that I am?”
28They told him, “John the Baptizer, and others say Elijah, but others, one of the prophets.”
29He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Christ.”
30He commanded them that they should tell no one about him.
31He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
32He spoke to them openly. Peter took him and began to rebuke him.
33But he, turning around and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter, and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you have in mind not the things of God, but the things of men.”
34He called the multitude to himself with his disciples and said to them, “Whoever wants to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
35For whoever wants to save his life will lose it; and whoever will lose his life for my sake and the sake of the Good News will save it.
36For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?
37For what will a man give in exchange for his life?
38For whoever will be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man also will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”
