Was die Leviten betrifft, so sind ihre Familienhäupter zur Zeit Eljasibs, Jojadas, Johanans und Jadduas aufgezeichnet worden, von den Priestern aber unter der Regierung des Perserkönigs Darius. –

Los Levitas en días de Eliasib, de Joiada, y de Johanán y Jaddua, fueron escritos por cabezas de familias; también los sacerdotes, hasta el reinado de Darío el Persa.

Bei Gelegenheit der Einweihung der Mauer Jerusalems aber suchte man die Leviten zu veranlassen, aus allen ihren Wohnorten nach Jerusalem zu kommen, damit die Einweihung durch ein Freudenfest begangen würde mit Dankliedern und Lobgesängen, mit Zimbeln, Harfen und Zithern.

Weiter zogen sie zum Quelltor hin, stiegen dann geradeaus auf den Stufen der Davidsstadt den Aufgang zur Mauer hinauf und dann oberhalb des Palastes Davids bis zum Wassertor im Osten.

An jenem Tage bestellte man auch Männer zu Aufsehern über die Zellen, die zu Vorratskammern für die Abgaben, für die Erstlinge und die Zehnten, bestimmt waren, um in ihnen nach den Feldmarken der einzelnen Ortschaften die gesetzlichen Abgaben für die Priester und die Leviten einzusammeln; denn die Judäer hatten ihre Freude an den Priestern und Leviten, die für den heiligen Dienst bestellt waren;

und diese besorgten in der Tat den Dienst ihres Gottes und die Beobachtung der Reinigungsvorschriften gewissenhaft, ebenso auch die Sänger und Torhüter, nach der Anordnung Davids und seines Sohnes Salomo.

Denn schon vor alters, zur Zeit Davids und Asaphs, hatte es Vorsteher der Sänger sowie Lobgesänge und Danklieder für Gott gegeben.

Ganz Israel aber entrichtete zur Zeit Serubbabels und zur Zeit Nehemias die Abgaben für die Sänger und die Torhüter, die diesen tagtäglich gebührten; sie lieferten aber die (vorgeschriebenen) heiligen Gaben an die Leviten ab, und die Leviten ließen die Weihegaben den Nachkommen Aarons zukommen.
