Ordené que se cerraran las puertas de la ciudad a la caída de la tarde, antes de que empezara el sábado, y que no se abrieran hasta que hubiera pasado el día de reposo. Además, envié a algunos de mis siervos para que vigilaran las puertas, de modo que impidieran que alguna mercadería pudiera ser introducida en la ciudad en el día de reposo.
Sucedió pues, que cuando iba oscureciendo á las puertas de Jerusalem antes del sábado, dije que se cerrasen las puertas, y ordené que no las abriesen hasta después del sábado; y puse á las puertas algunos de mis criados, para que en día de sábado no entrasen carga.

Uno de los hijos de Joyadá, hijo del sumo sacerdote Eliasib, era yerno de Sambalat el horonita, de modo que lo expulsé de mi lado.
