ED avvenne l'anno ventesimo del re Artaserse, nel mese di Nisan, che, essendo stato portato il vino davanti a lui, io presi il vino, e lo porsi al re. Or io non soleva esser mesto nel suo cospetto.
Y FUÉ en el mes de Nisán, en el año veinte del rey Artajerjes, que estando ya el vino delante de él, tomé el vino, y dílo al rey. Y como yo no había estado antes triste en su presencia,
And it came to pass in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that wine was before him: and I took up the wine, and gave it unto the king. Now I had not been beforetime sad in his presence.

E il re mi disse: Perchè è la tua faccia mesta, non essendo tu infermo? questo non è altro se non afflizione di cuore. Ed io ebbi grandissima paura;
Díjome el rey: ¿Por qué está triste tu rostro, pues no estás enfermo? No es esto sino quebranto de corazón. Entonces temí en gran manera.
Wherefore the king said unto me, Why is thy countenance sad, seeing thou art not sick? this is nothing else but sorrow of heart. Then I was very sore afraid,

e dissi al re: Possa il re vivere in perpetuo; come non sarebbe la mia faccia mesta, rimanendo la città, che è il luogo delle sepolture de' miei padri, distrutta, e le sue porte consumate dal fuoco?
Y dije al rey: El rey viva para siempre. ¿Cómo no estará triste mi rostro, cuando la ciudad, casa de los sepulcros de mis padres, está desierta, y sus puertas consumidas del fuego?
And said unto the king, Let the king live for ever: why should not my countenance be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers’ sepulchres, lieth waste, and the gates thereof are consumed with fire?
I said to the king, “Let the king live forever! Why shouldn’t my face be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers’ tombs, lies waste, and its gates have been consumed with fire?”
E il re mi disse: Che chiedi tu? Allora io pregai l'Iddio del cielo;

Then the king said unto me, For what dost thou make request? So I prayed to the God of heaven.

e dissi al re: Se così piace al re, e se il tuo servitore ti è in grazia, mandami in Giudea, nella città dove sono le sepolture de' miei padri, acciocchè io la riedifichi.
Y dije al rey: Si al rey place, y si agrada tu siervo delante de ti, que me envíes á Judá, á la ciudad de los sepulcros de mis padres, y la reedificaré.
And I said unto the king, If it please the king, and if thy servant have found favour in thy sight, that thou wouldest send me unto Judah, unto the city of my fathers’ sepulchres, that I may build it.

E il re mi disse, ed anche la sua moglie che gli sedeva allato: Quanto tempo metterai alla tua andata, e quando ritornerai? E quando io ebbi detto il tempo al re, egli ebbe a grado di darmi licenza.
Entonces el rey me dijo, (y la reina estaba sentada junto á él): ¿Hasta cuándo será tu viaje, y cuándo volverás? Y plugo al rey enviarme, después que yo le señalé tiempo.

Poi dissi al re: Se così piace al re, sienmi date lettere a' governatori di là dal fiume, acciocchè mi lascino passare, finchè io sia giunto in Giudea.

Allora io dissi loro: Voi vedete la miseria nella quale noi siamo, come Gerusalemme è distrutta, e le sue porte sono bruciate col fuoco: venite, riedifichiamo le mura di Gerusalemme, acciocchè non siamo più in vituperio.
Díjeles pues: Vosotros veis el mal en que estamos, que Jerusalem está desierta, y sus puertas consumidas del fuego: venid, y edifiquemos el muro de Jerusalem, y no seamos más en oprobio.
Then said I unto them, Ye see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lieth waste, and the gates thereof are burned with fire: come, and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we be no more a reproach.

Ed io dichiarai loro come la mano dell'Iddio mio era buona sopra me; ed anche le parole del re, che egli mi avea dette. Ed essi dissero: Or mettiamoci ad edificare. Così presero animo a far bene.
Entonces les declaré cómo la mano de mi Dios era buena sobre mí, y asimismo las palabras del rey, que me había dicho. Y dijeron: Levantémonos, y edifiquemos. Así esforzaron sus manos para bien.
Then I told them of the hand of my God which was good upon me; as also the king’s words that he had spoken unto me. And they said, Let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good work.

Ma Samballat Horonita, e Tobia, servo Ammonita, e Ghesem Arabo, avendo udito questo, ci beffavano, e ci sprezzavano, e dicevano: Che cosa è questo che voi fate? vi volete voi ribellar contro al re?
Mas habiéndolo oído Samballat Horonita, y Tobías el siervo Ammonita, y Gesem el Arabe, escarnecieron de nosotros, y nos despreciaron, diciendo: ¿Qué es esto que hacéis vosotros? ¿os rebeláis contra el rey?

Ed io risposi, e dissi loro: L'Iddio del cielo è quel che ci farà prosperare; e noi, suoi servitori, ci metteremo ad edificare; ma voi non avete parte, nè diritto, nè memoria alcuna in Gerusalemme.
Y volvíles respuesta, y díjeles: El Dios de los cielos, él nos prosperará, y nosotros sus siervos nos levantaremos y edificaremos: que vosotros no tenéis parte, ni derecho, ni memoria en Jerusalem.
Then answered I them, and said unto them, The God of heaven, he will prosper us; therefore we his servants will arise and build: but ye have no portion, nor right, nor memorial, in Jerusalem.
