Nehemías 5

Por esse tempo houve um grande grito de protesto tanto de homens como de mulheres contra os seus irmãos judeus.

ENTONCES fué grande el clamor del pueblo y de sus mujeres contra los Judíos sus hermanos.

Alguns diziam: “As nossas famílias são grandes, e precisamos de trigo para nos alimentarmos e continuarmos vivos”.

Y había quien decía: Nosotros, nuestros hijos y nuestras hijas, somos muchos: hemos por tanto tomado grano para comer y vivir.

For there were that said, We, our sons, and our daughters, are many: therefore we take up corn for them, that we may eat, and live.

For there were some who said, “We, our sons and our daughters, are many. Let us get grain, that we may eat and live.”

Outros diziam: “Tivemos de penhorar nossas terras, nossas vinhas e nossas casas para conseguir trigo para matar a nossa fome”.

Y había quienes decían: Hemos empeñado nuestras tierras, y nuestras viñas, y nuestras casas, para comprar grano en el hambre.

Some also there were that said, We have mortgaged our lands, vineyards, and houses, that we might buy corn, because of the dearth.

There were also some who said, “We are mortgaging our fields, our vineyards, and our houses. Let us get grain, because of the famine.”

E outros, ainda, diziam: “Tivemos de tomar dinheiro emprestado para pagar o imposto cobrado sobre as nossas terras e as nossas vinhas.

Y había quienes decían: Hemos tomado prestado dinero para el tributo del rey, sobre nuestras tierras y viñas.

There were also that said, We have borrowed money for the king’s tribute, and that upon our lands and vineyards.

There were also some who said, “We have borrowed money for the king’s tribute using our fields and our vineyards as collateral.

Somos irmãos deles, e nossos filhos são iguais aos filhos deles. No entanto, somos obrigados a vender nossos filhos e nossas filhas como escravos, a fim de conseguirmos dinheiro suficiente para viver. Já vendemos algumas de nossas filhas, e não temos recursos para comprá-las de volta, pois as nossas terras e as nossas vinhas foram penhoradas por esses homens”.

Ahora bien, nuestra carne es como la carne de nuestros hermanos, nuestros hijos como sus hijos: y he aquí que nosotros sujetamos nuestros hijos y nuestras hijas á servidumbre, y hay algunas de nuestras hijas sujetas: mas no hay facultad en nuestras manos para rescatarlas, porque nuestras tierras y nuestras viñas son de otros.

Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children: and, lo, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters are brought unto bondage already: neither is it in our power to redeem them; for other men have our lands and vineyards.

Fiquei muito revoltado quando ouvi a reclamação.

Assim, depois de pensar sobre o assunto, falei com toda a franqueza com os nobres e oficiais, membros do governo. “O que vocês estão fazendo?”, perguntei. “Como têm a coragem de cobrar juros dos seus irmãos?” Então convoquei um julgamento público para tratar com eles.

Meditélo entonces para conmigo, y reprendí á los principales y á los magistrados, y díjeles: ¿Tomáis cada uno usura de vuestros hermanos? Y convoqué contra ellos una grande junta.

Then I consulted with myself, and I rebuked the nobles, and the rulers, and said unto them, Ye exact usury, every one of his brother. And I set a great assembly against them.

No julgamento, disse a eles: “Nós, os que restamos, fazemos tudo o que podemos para comprar de volta nossos irmãos judeus que haviam sido vendidos aos outros povos, mas vocês estão até vendendo os seus irmãos! Quantas vezes temos de pagar para que nossos irmãos fiquem livres?” E eles nada tinham para dizer em sua própria defesa.

Y díjeles: Nosotros rescatamos á nuestros hermanos Judíos que habían sido vendidos á las gentes, conforme á la facultad que había en nosotros: ¿y vosotros aun vendéis á vuestros hermanos, y serán vendidos á nosotros? Y callaron, que no tuvieron qué responder.

And I said unto them, We after our ability have redeemed our brethren the Jews, which were sold unto the heathen; and will ye even sell your brethren? or shall they be sold unto us? Then held they their peace, and found nothing to answer.

I said to them, “We, after our ability, have redeemed our brothers the Jews that were sold to the nations; and would you even sell your brothers, and should they be sold to us?” Then they held their peace, and found not a word to say.

Então eu continuei: “O que vocês estão fazendo é muito mau; vocês deveriam andar no temor de nosso Deus. Já temos inimigos de sobra entre as nações, zombando de nós; eles estão procurando a nossa destruição.

Y dije: No es bien lo que hacéis, ¿no andaréis en temor de nuestro Dios, por no ser el oprobio de las gentes enemigas nuestras?

Also I said, It is not good that ye do: ought ye not to walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the heathen our enemies?

Eu, os meus irmãos, e meus homens, temos emprestado dinheiro e cereais a nossos irmãos judeus. Mas agora, todos nós, vamos parar de cobrar juros.

También yo, y mis hermanos, y mis criados, les hemos prestado dinero y grano: relevémosles ahora de este gravamen.

I likewise, and my brethren, and my servants, might exact of them money and corn: I pray you, let us leave off this usury.

Devolvam a eles suas terras, suas vinhas, suas plantações de oliveiras e suas casas hoje mesmo, e também a centésima parte do dinheiro, do trigo, do vinho e do azeite”.

Restore, I pray you, to them, even this day, their lands, their vineyards, their oliveyards, and their houses, also the hundredth part of the money, and of the corn, the wine, and the oil, that ye exact of them.

Please restore to them, even today, their fields, their vineyards, their olive groves, and their houses, also the hundredth part of the money, and of the grain, the new wine, and the oil, that you are charging them.”

E eles responderam: “Nós devolveremos tudo que foi citado e não exigiremos mais nada deles. Vamos fazer o que você está pedindo”. Depois convoquei os sacerdotes e fiz com que aqueles homens jurassem, diante de testemunhas, que cumpririam essa promessa.

Y dijeron: Devolveremos, y nada les demandaremos; haremos así como tú dices. Entonces convoqué los sacerdotes, y juramentélos que harían conforme á esto.

Then said they, We will restore them, and will require nothing of them; so will we do as thou sayest. Then I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they should do according to this promise.

Depois sacudi a faixa do meu manto e disse: “Que Deus os sacuda de seus lares e de seu sustento, se vocês deixarem de cumprir esta promessa. Tal pessoa seja sacudida e esvaziada!” E todo o povo gritou: “Amém”, louvando o Senhor. E o povo cumpriu o que havia prometido.

Además sacudí mi vestido, y dije: Así sacuda Dios de su casa y de su trabajo á todo hombre que no cumpliere esto, y así sea sacudido y vacío. Y respondió toda la congregación: ¡Amén! Y alabaron á Jehová. Y el pueblo hizo conforme á esto.

Also I shook my lap, and said, So God shake out every man from his house, and from his labour, that performeth not this promise, even thus be he shaken out, and emptied. And all the congregation said, Amen, and praised the LORD. And the people did according to this promise.

Durante os doze anos em que fui governador de Judá, desde o vigésimo ano do reinado do rei Artaxerxes, até o trigésimo segundo ano do seu reinado, meus ajudantes e eu não aceitamos salários nem outra assistência do povo de Israel.

También desde el día que me mandó el rey que fuese gobernador de ellos en la tierra de Judá, desde el año veinte del rey Artajerjes hasta el año treinta y dos, doce años, ni yo ni mis hermanos comimos el pan del gobernador.

Moreover from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even unto the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that is, twelve years, I and my brethren have not eaten the bread of the governor.

Isso era muito diferente dos antigos governadores, que exigiam alimento, vinho e quatrocentos e oitenta gramas de prata, deixando que seus ajudantes tratassem a população como bem entendessem. Esses ajudantes oprimiam o povo. Mas por temor a Deus eu não agi dessa maneira.

Mas los primeros gobernadores que fueron antes de mí, cargaron al pueblo, y tomaron de ellos por el pan y por el vino sobre cuarenta siclos de plata: á más de esto, sus criados se enseñoreaban sobre el pueblo; pero yo no hice así, á causa del temor de Dios.

Permaneci trabalhando no muro e não quis saber de negociar com terras. Também exigi que meus oficiais passassem o tempo trabalhando no muro.

También en la obra de este muro instauré mi parte, y no compramos heredad: y todos mis criados juntos estaban allí á la obra.

Além disso, cento e cinquenta homens, entre judeus do povo e seus oficiais, comiam à minha mesa, além dos visitantes das nações vizinhas.

Además ciento y cincuenta hombres de los Judíos y magistrados, y los que venían á nosotros de las gentes que están en nuestros contornos, estaban á mi mesa.

Moreover there were at my table an hundred and fifty of the Jews and rulers, beside those that came unto us from among the heathen that are about us.

A alimentação necessária para cada dia era de um boi, seis ovelhas gordas e um grande número de aves domésticas. E precisávamos de um grande abastecimento de todos os tipos de vinho a cada dez dias. No entanto, eu fui contrário a cobrar um imposto especial do povo destinado ao governador, pois todos já estavam passando por tempos difíceis.

Y lo que se aderezaba para cada día era un buey, seis ovejas escogidas, y aves también se aparejaban para mí, y cada diez días vino en toda abundancia: y con todo esto nunca requerí el pan del gobernador, porque la servidumbre de este pueblo era grave.

Now that which was prepared for me daily was one ox and six choice sheep; also fowls were prepared for me, and once in ten days store of all sorts of wine: yet for all this required not I the bread of the governor, because the bondage was heavy upon this people.
