Nehemías 8

1Y cuando llegó el mes séptimo, los hijos de Israel estaban en sus ciudades. Y todas las personas se reunieron como un solo hombre en el amplio lugar frente a la puerta del agua; e hicieron un pedido a Esdras, el escriba, que trajera el libro de la ley de Moisés que el Señor le había dado a Israel.
2Esdras, el sacerdote, trajo el libro de la ley ante la reunión del pueblo, ante los hombres y mujeres y todos los que tenían uso de razón el primer día del séptimo mes.
3Lo estaba leyendo en el amplio lugar frente a la puerta de entrada de agua, desde la madrugada hasta la mitad del día, a la vista de todos aquellos hombres y mujeres cuyas mentes fueron capaces de asimilarlo; y los oídos de todo el pueblo estaban abiertos al libro de la ley.
4Esdras, el escriba, tomó su lugar en una torre de madera que habían hecho para ese propósito; y a su lado estaban Matatías, Sema, Anias, Urías, Hilcías y Maasias a la derecha, y en la izquierda, Pedaias, Misael, Malquias, Hasum, Hasbadana, Zacarías, Mesulam.
5Esdras tomó el libro y lo abrió ante los ojos de toda la gente porque él estaba por encima de todos; y cuando estuvo abierto, toda la gente se puso de pie.
6Esdras alabó al Señor, el gran Dios. Y toda la gente en respuesta dijo: “Así sea, así sea”, levantando sus manos; y con las cabezas inclinadas, adoraron al Señor, descendiendo sobre sus rostros a la tierra.
7Y Josué, Bani, Serebías, Jamin, Acub, Sabetai, Hodías, Maasias, Kelita, Azarías, Jozabed, Hanán, Pelaías y los levitas, hicieron entender la ley a la gente, y la gente se mantuvo en sus lugares.
8Y ellos leyeron claramente las palabras del libro, la ley de Dios, y le dieron el sentido, para que sus mentes pudieran asimilarlo.
9Y Nehemías, que era él gobernador, y Esdras, el sacerdote y escriba, y los levitas que eran los maestros del pueblo, dijeron a todo el pueblo: Este día es santo para el Señor tu Dios; Que no haya dolor ni llanto; porque toda la gente lloraba al oír las palabras de la ley.
10Entonces les dijo: Váyanse ahora, y toma la grasa para su comida y beban de lo dulce, y comparte algo a aquel para quien nada tiene preparado; porque este día es santo para nuestro Señor, y Que no haya dolor en sus corazones; porque la alegría del Señor es la fortaleza de ustedes.
11Entonces los levitas hicieron callar a todo el pueblo, diciendo: silencio, porque el día es santo para él Señor.
12Y todo el pueblo se fue a comer y beber, y a compartir comida a los demás y a alegrarse, porque las palabras que se les habían dicho las habían comprendido.
13Y al segundo día, los jefes de familia de todas las personas, los sacerdotes y los levitas se reunieron con Esdras, el escriba, para prestar atención a las palabras de la ley.
14Y vieron que estaba registrado en la ley que el Señor había dado las órdenes por medio de Moisés, que los hijos de Israel tendrían tiendas de campaña para sus lugares de habitación en la fiesta del séptimo mes.
15Y que debían dar una orden y hacerla pública en todos sus pueblos y en Jerusalén, diciendo: Sal a la montaña y consigue ramas de olivo y de mirto, y ramas de palmeras de árboles gruesos, para hacer cabañas, como se dice en el libro.
16Y la gente salió y los tomó y se hizo tiendas, cada uno en el techo de su casa, en los espacios en los atrios de la casa de Dios, y en el lugar de la Puerta del agua, y la amplia plaza de la puerta de Efraín.
17Todos los que habían estado prisioneros y habían regresado, hacían tiendas y vivían en ellas; porque desde la época de Josué, el hijo de Nun, hasta ese día, los hijos de Israel no lo habían hecho. Y hubo una alegría muy grande.
18Y día tras día, desde el primer día hasta el último, Esdras leyó el libro de la ley de Dios. Y se mantuvieron en la fiesta por siete días, y al octavo día hubo una reunión santa, como está ordenado en la ley.

1Y JUNTÓSE todo el pueblo como un solo hombre en la plaza que está delante de la puerta de las Aguas, y dijeron á Esdras el escriba, que trajese el libro de la ley de Moisés, la cual mandó Jehová á Israel.
2Y Esdras el sacerdote, trajo la ley delante de la congregación, así de hombres como de mujeres, y de todo entendido para escuchar, el primer día del mes séptimo.
3Y leyó en el libro delante de la plaza que está delante de la puerta de las Aguas, desde el alba hasta el medio día, en presencia de hombres y mujeres y entendidos; y los oídos de todo el pueblo estaban atentos al libro de la ley.
4Y Esdras el escriba estaba sobre un púlpito de madera, que habían hecho para ello; y junto á él estaban Mathithías, y Sema, y Anías, y Urías, é Hilcías, y Maasías, á su mano derecha; y á su mano izquierda, Pedaía, Misael, y Malchîas, y Hasum, y Hasbedana, Zachârías, y Mesullam.
5Abrió pues Esdras el libro á ojos de todo el pueblo, (porque estaba más alto que todo el pueblo); y como lo abrió, todo el pueblo estuvo atento.
6Bendijo entonces Esdras á Jehová, Dios grande. Y todo el pueblo respondió, ¡Amén! ¡Amén! alzando sus manos; y humilláronse, y adoraron á Jehová inclinados á tierra.
7Y Jesuá, y Bani, y Serebías, Jamín, Accub, Sabethai, Odías, Maasías, Celita, Azarías, Jozabed, Hanán, Pelaía, Levitas, hacían entender al pueblo la ley: y el pueblo estaba en su lugar.
8Y leían en el libro de la ley de Dios claramente, y ponían el sentido, de modo que entendiesen la lectura.
9Y Nehemías el Tirsatha, y el sacerdote Esdras, escriba, y los Levitas que hacían entender al pueblo, dijeron á todo el pueblo: Día santo es á Jehová nuestro Dios; no os entristezcáis, ni lloréis: porque todo el pueblo lloraba oyendo las palabras de la ley.
10Díjoles luego: Id, comed grosuras, y bebed vino dulce, y enviad porciones á los que no tienen prevenido; porque día santo es á nuestro Señor: y no os entristezcáis, porque el gozo de Jehová es vuestra fortaleza.
11Los Levitas pues, hacían callar á todo el pueblo, diciendo: Callad, que es día santo, y no os entristezcáis.
12Y todo el pueblo se fué á comer y á beber, y á enviar porciones, y á gozar de grande alegría, porque habían entendido las palabras que les habían enseñado.
13Y el día siguiente se juntaron los príncipes de las familias de todo el pueblo, sacerdotes, y Levitas, á Esdras escriba, para entender las palabras de la ley.
14Y hallaron escrito en la ley que Jehová había mandado por mano de Moisés, que habitasen los hijos de Israel en cabañas en la solemnidad del mes séptimo;
15Y que hiciesen saber, y pasar pregón por todas sus ciudades y por Jerusalem, diciendo: Salid al monte, y traed ramos de oliva, y ramos de pino, y ramos de arrayán, y ramos de palmas, y ramos de todo árbol espeso, para hacer cabañas como está escrito.
16Salió pues el pueblo, y trajeron, é hiciéronse cabañas, cada uno sobre su terrado, y en sus patios, y en los patios de la casa de Dios, y en la plaza de la puerta de las Aguas, y en la plaza de la puerta de Ephraim.
17Y toda la congregación que volvió de la cautividad hicieron cabañas, y en cabañas habitaron; porque desde los días de Josué hijo de Nun hasta aquel día, no habían hecho así los hijos de Israel. Y hubo alegría muy grande.
18Y leyó Esdras en el libro de la ley de Dios cada día, desde el primer día hasta el postrero; é hicieron la solemnidad por siete días, y al octavo día congregación, según el rito.

1And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that was before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel.
2And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month.
3And he read therein before the street that was before the water gate from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the law.
4And Ezra the scribe stood upon a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Urijah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchiah, and Hashum, and Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam.
5And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all the people;) and when he opened it, all the people stood up:
6And Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting up their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped the LORD with their faces to the ground.
7Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law: and the people stood in their place.
8So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.
9And Nehemiah, which is the Tirshatha, and Ezra the priest the scribe, and the Levites that taught the people, said unto all the people, This day is holy unto the LORD your God; mourn not, nor weep. For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law.
10Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.
11So the Levites stilled all the people, saying, Hold your peace, for the day is holy; neither be ye grieved.
12And all the people went their way to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great mirth, because they had understood the words that were declared unto them.
13And on the second day were gathered together the chief of the fathers of all the people, the priests, and the Levites, unto Ezra the scribe, even to understand the words of the law.
14And they found written in the law which the LORD had commanded by Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast of the seventh month:
15And that they should publish and proclaim in all their cities, and in Jerusalem, saying, Go forth unto the mount, and fetch olive branches, and pine branches, and myrtle branches, and palm branches, and branches of thick trees, to make booths, as it is written.
16So the people went forth, and brought them, and made themselves booths, every one upon the roof of his house, and in their courts, and in the courts of the house of God, and in the street of the water gate, and in the street of the gate of Ephraim.
17And all the congregation of them that were come again out of the captivity made booths, and sat under the booths: for since the days of Jeshua the son of Nun unto that day had not the children of Israel done so. And there was very great gladness.
18Also day by day, from the first day unto the last day, he read in the book of the law of God. And they kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day was a solemn assembly, according unto the manner.

1All the people gathered themselves together as one man into the wide place that was in front of the water gate; and they spoke to Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel.
2Ezra the priest brought the law before the assembly, both men and women, and all who could hear with understanding, on the first day of the seventh month.
3He read from it before the wide place that was in front of the water gate from early morning until midday, in the presence of the men and the women, and of those who could understand. The ears of all the people were attentive to the book of the law.
4Ezra the scribe stood on a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Uriah, Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum, Hashbaddanah, Zechariah, and Meshullam.
5Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people (for he was above all the people), and when he opened it, all the people stood up.
6Then Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God. All the people answered, “Amen, Amen,” with the lifting up of their hands. They bowed their heads, and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground.

8They read in the book, in the law of God, distinctly; and they gave the sense, so that they understood the reading.
9Nehemiah, who was the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, “Today is holy to the LORD your God. Don’t mourn, nor weep.” For all the people wept when they heard the words of the law.
10Then he said to them, “Go your way. Eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared, for today is holy to our Lord. Don’t be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”
11So the Levites calmed all the people, saying, “Hold your peace, for the day is holy. Don’t be grieved.”
12All the people went their way to eat, to drink, to send portions, and to celebrate, because they had understood the words that were declared to them.
13On the second day, the heads of fathers’ households of all the people, the priests, and the Levites were gathered together to Ezra the scribe, to study the words of the law.
14They found written in the law how the LORD had commanded by Moses that the children of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast of the seventh month;
15and that they should publish and proclaim in all their cities and in Jerusalem, saying, “Go out to the mountain, and get olive branches, branches of wild olive, myrtle branches, palm branches, and branches of thick trees, to make temporary shelters, as it is written.”
16So the people went out and brought them, and made themselves temporary shelters, everyone on the roof of his house, in their courts, in the courts of God’s house, in the wide place of the water gate, and in the wide place of Ephraim’s gate.
17All the assembly of those who had come back out of the captivity made temporary shelters and lived in the temporary shelters, for since the days of Joshua the son of Nun to that day the children of Israel had not done so. There was very great gladness.
18Also day by day, from the first day to the last day, he read in the book of the law of God. They kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day was a solemn assembly, according to the ordinance.
