And why have ye brought up the congregation of the LORD into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there?

¿Por qué nos hicisteis salir de Egipto, y nos habéis traído a este miserable terreno, que no se puede sembrar, que ni da higos, ni vides, ni granadas, y ni aun agua tiene para beber?
¿Y por qué nos has hecho subir de Egipto, para traernos á este mal lugar? No es lugar de sementera, de higueras, de viñas, ni granadas: ni aun de agua para beber.
And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.

Con esto Moisés y Aarón, separándose de la gente, y entrando en el Tabernáculo de la alianza, se postraron contra el suelo y clamaron al Señor, y dijeron: ¡Oh Señor, nuestro Dios! escucha los clamores de este pueblo, y ábreles tu tesoro, una fuente de agua viva, a fin de que, apagada su sed, cesen de murmurar. En esto apareció la gloria del Señor sobre ellos.
Y fuéronse Moisés y Aarón de delante de la congregación á la puerta del tabernáculo del testimonio, y echáronse sobre sus rostros; y la gloria de Jehová apareció sobre ellos.

Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.

Tomó, pues, Moisés su vara, que se guardaba en la presencia del Señor, según él se lo mandó,

Dijo entonces el Señor a Moisés y Aarón: Ya que no me habéis creído en orden a hacer conocer mi gloria a los hijos de Israel, no introduciréis vosotros este pueblo en la tierra que yo le daré.
Y Jehová dijo á Moisés y á Aarón: Por cuanto no creísteis en mí, para santificarme en ojos de los hijos de Israel, por tanto, no meteréis esta congregación en la tierra que les he dado.
And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.

Esta es el agua de contradicción, donde los hijos de Israel protestaron contra el Señor, el cual manifestó en ellos su gloria.

te suplicamos nos permitas atravesar por tu tierra. No iremos por los campos, ni por las viñas, o beberemos agua de tus pozos, sino que marcharemos por el camino real, sin declinar a la derecha ni a la izquierda, hasta que estemos fuera de tus dominios.
Rogámoste que pasemos por tu tierra; no pasaremos por labranza, ni por viña, ni beberemos agua de pozos: por el camino real iremos, sin apartarnos á la diestra ni á la siniestra, hasta que hayamos pasado tu término.
Let us pass, I pray thee, through thy country: we will not pass through the fields, or through the vineyards, neither will we drink of the water of the wells: we will go by the king’s high way, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed thy borders.

A lo que respondió el idumeo: No pasarás por mi tierra; que si lo haces, saldré armado a tu encuentro.

Replicaron los hijos de Israel: Seguiremos siempre la carretera, y en caso de beber de tus aguas nosotros y nuestros ganados, pagaremos lo justo: no habrá dificultad alguna en el precio; sólo con que nos dejéis pasar a pie.

And the children of Israel said unto him, We will go by the high way: and if I and my cattle drink of thy water, then I will pay for it: I will only, without doing any thing else, go through on my feet.

Vaya Aarón a incorporarse con su pueblo porque no ha de entrar en la tierra que tengo dada a los hijos de Israel; por haber sido incrédulo a mis palabras allá en las aguas de contradicción.
