Y OYENDO el Cananeo, el rey de Arad, el cual habitaba al mediodía, que venía Israel por el camino de los centinelas, peleó con Israel, y tomó de él presa.
And when king Arad the Canaanite, which dwelt in the south, heard tell that Israel came by the way of the spies; then he fought against Israel, and took some of them prisoners.

Entonces Israel le hizo una promesa a Yahvé, diciendo: “Si de verdad entregas a este pueblo en nuestras manos, destruiremos sus ciudades por completo”.

y comenzaron a hablar contra Dios y contra Moisés: “¿Por qué nos sacaron de Egipto para hacernos morir en el desierto? ¡No hay pan ni agua, y ya estamos hartos de esta comida miserable!”.
Y habló el pueblo contra Dios y Moisés: ¿Por qué nos hiciste subir de Egipto para que muramos en este desierto? que ni hay pan, ni agua, y nuestra alma tiene fastidio de este pan tan liviano.
And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread.

Entonces Yahvé envió serpientes venenosas entre el pueblo; estas mordieron a la gente, y muchos israelitas murieron.

El pueblo acudió a Moisés y le dijo: “Hemos pecado al hablar contra Yahvé y contra ti. Ruégale a Yahvé que aleje a las serpientes de nosotros”. Y Moisés oró por el pueblo.
Entonces el pueblo vino á Moisés, y dijeron: Pecado hemos por haber hablado contra Jehová, y contra ti: ruega á Jehová que quite de nosotros estas serpientes. Y Moisés oró por el pueblo.
Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against thee; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.

Yahvé le dijo a Moisés: “Haz la figura de una serpiente venenosa y ponla sobre un poste. Todo el que sea mordido y la mire, vivirá”.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.

De allí continuaron hasta Beer, el pozo donde Yahvé le dijo a Moisés: “Reúne al pueblo y yo les daré agua”.
Y de allí vinieron á Beer: este es el pozo del cual Jehová dijo á Moisés: Junta el pueblo, y les daré agua.
And from thence they went to Beer: that is the well whereof the LORD spake unto Moses, Gather the people together, and I will give them water.

Israel envió mensajeros a Sehón, rey de los amorreos, para decirle:
Y envió Israel embajadores á Sehón, rey de los Amorrheos, diciendo:
And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,
Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,
“Déjanos pasar por tu país. Prometemos no desviarnos por los campos ni por los viñedos, ni beberemos agua de tus pozos. Iremos por el Camino del Rey, hasta salir de tu territorio”.
Pasaré por tu tierra: no nos apartaremos por los labrados, ni por las viñas; no beberemos las aguas de los pozos: por el camino real iremos, hasta que pasemos tu término.
Let me pass through thy land: we will not turn into the fields, or into the vineyards; we will not drink of the waters of the well: but we will go along by the king’s high way, until we be past thy borders.
“Let me pass through your land. We will not turn away into field or vineyard. We will not drink of the water of the wells. We will go by the king’s highway, until we have passed your border.”
Pero Sehón no le permitió a Israel cruzar por su territorio. Al contrario, reunió a todo su ejército y salió al desierto para atacar a Israel; al llegar a Jahaz, se enfrentó a ellos.
Mas Sehón no dejó pasar á Israel por su término: antes juntó Sehón todo su pueblo, y salió contra Israel en el desierto: y vino á Jahaz, y peleó contra Israel.
And Sihon would not suffer Israel to pass through his border: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness: and he came to Jahaz, and fought against Israel.

Israel lo derrotó a filo de espada y se adueñó de su territorio desde el río Arnón hasta el río Jaboc, llegando hasta la frontera de los amonitas, pues la frontera de los hijos de Amón estaba bien fortificada.

Hesbón era la capital de Sehón, el rey amorreo, quien había peleado contra el anterior rey de Moab y le había quitado todo su territorio hasta el río Arnón.
Porque Hesbón era la ciudad de Sehón, rey de los Amorrheos; el cual había tenido guerra antes con el rey de Moab, y tomado de su poder toda su tierra hasta Arnón.

Porque de Hesbón salió un fuego, una llama de la ciudad de Sehón, que devoró a Ar de Moab y a los señores de las colinas del Arnón.
Que fuego salió de Hesbón, y llama de la ciudad de Sehón, y consumió á Ar de Moab, á los señores de los altos de Arnón.
For there is a fire gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon: it hath consumed Ar of Moab, and the lords of the high places of Arnon.

Luego Moisés mandó a unos hombres a explorar Jazer. Capturaron sus poblados y expulsaron a los amorreos que vivían allí.

And the LORD said unto Moses, Fear him not: for I have delivered him into thy hand, and all his people, and his land; and thou shalt do to him as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon.
The LORD said to Moses, “Don’t fear him, for I have delivered him into your hand, with all his people, and his land. You shall do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon.”
