Las tribus de Rubén y de Gad tenían muchísimo ganado. Al ver que las tierras de Jazer y de Galaad eran lugares excelentes para criar animales,
Y LOS hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad tenían una muy grande muchedumbre de ganado; los cuales viendo la tierra de Jazer y de Galaad, parecióles el país lugar de ganado.
Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle: and when they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, that, behold, the place was a place for cattle;

los de Gad y de Rubén fueron a hablar con Moisés, con el sacerdote Eleazar y con los líderes de la comunidad, y les dijeron:

y toda la tierra que Yahvé ha conquistado para la comunidad de Israel, son excelentes pastizales, ¡y nosotros, tus servidores, tenemos mucho ganado!”.
La tierra que Jehová hirió delante de la congregación de Israel, es tierra de ganado, y tus siervos tienen ganado.
Even the country which the LORD smote before the congregation of Israel, is a land for cattle, and thy servants have cattle:
the land which the LORD struck before the congregation of Israel, is a land for livestock; and your servants have livestock.”
Y añadieron: “Si hemos hallado favor ante tus ojos, te pedimos que nos des esta tierra como nuestra propiedad. No nos hagas cruzar el río Jordán”.
Por tanto, dijeron, si hallamos gracia en tus ojos, dése esta tierra á tus siervos en heredad, y no nos hagas pasar el Jordán.
Wherefore, said they, if we have found grace in thy sight, let this land be given unto thy servants for a possession, and bring us not over Jordan.
They said, “If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants for a possession. Don’t bring us over the Jordan.”
Pero Moisés les reclamó a los de Gad y de Rubén: “¿O sea que sus hermanos van a ir a la guerra mientras ustedes se quedan aquí sentados?
Y respondió Moisés á los hijos de Gad y á los hijos de Rubén: ¿Vendrán vuestros hermanos á la guerra, y vosotros os quedaréis aquí?
And Moses said unto the children of Gad and to the children of Reuben, Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here?

¿Por qué tratan de desanimar a los israelitas para que no crucen a la tierra que Yahvé les ha dado?
¿Y por qué prevenís el ánimo de los hijos de Israel, para que no pasen á la tierra que les ha dado Jehová?
And wherefore discourage ye the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the LORD hath given them?

¡Eso fue exactamente lo que hicieron sus padres cuando los envié desde Cades-barnea a explorar el país!

Ellos fueron hasta el valle de Escol y exploraron la tierra, pero luego desanimaron a los israelitas para que no entraran al país que Yahvé les había dado.

‘Ninguno de estos hombres de veinte años para arriba que salieron de Egipto verá jamás la tierra que juré darles a Abraham, a Isaac y a Jacob, porque no me obedecieron de todo corazón.
Que no verán los varones que subieron de Egipto de veinte años arriba, la tierra por la cual juré á Abraham, Isaac, y Jacob, por cuanto no fueron perfectos en pos de mí;
Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me:

Los únicos que entrarán serán Caleb, hijo del cenezeo Jefone, y Josué, hijo de Nun, porque ellos sí me obedecieron por completo’.
Excepto Caleb, hijo de Jephone Cenezeo, y Josué hijo de Nun, que fueron perfectos en pos de Jehová.
Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the LORD.

Yahvé se enfureció tanto contra Israel que los hizo dar vueltas por el desierto durante cuarenta años, hasta que murió toda la generación que se había portado mal ante los ojos de Yahvé.
Y el furor de Jehová se encendió en Israel, é hízolos andar errantes cuarenta años por el desierto, hasta que fué acabada toda aquella generación, que había hecho mal delante de Jehová.
And the LORD’s anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the LORD, was consumed.

“¡Y ahora resulta que ustedes son iguales a sus padres! ¡Son una prole de pecadores que solo lograrán que Yahvé se enoje aún más con Israel!
Y he aquí vosotros habéis sucedido en lugar de vuestros padres, prole de hombres pecadores, para añadir aún á la ira de Jehová contra Israel.
And, behold, ye are risen up in your fathers’ stead, an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of the LORD toward Israel.
“Behold, you have risen up in your fathers’ place, an increase of sinful men, to increase the fierce anger of the LORD toward Israel.
Si se niegan a obedecerle, él volverá a dejar a todo el pueblo abandonado en el desierto, ¡y ustedes serán los culpables de su destrucción!”.
Si os volviereis de en pos de él, él volverá otra vez á dejaros en el desierto, y destruiréis á todo este pueblo.
For if ye turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and ye shall destroy all this people.

Pero ellos se acercaron a Moisés y le explicaron: “Lo único que queremos es construir aquí unos corrales para nuestro ganado y unas ciudades fortificadas para nuestras familias.
Entonces ellos se llegaron á él y dijeron: Edificaremos aquí majadas para nuestro ganado, y ciudades para nuestros niños;
And they came near unto him, and said, We will build sheepfolds here for our cattle, and cities for our little ones:

Pero nosotros tomaremos nuestras armas y marcharemos al frente de los israelitas hasta que los hayamos establecido en su lugar. Mientras tanto, nuestras familias podrán vivir seguras en las ciudades fortificadas, protegidas de los habitantes de esta tierra.
Y nosotros nos armaremos, é iremos con diligencia delante de los hijos de Israel, hasta que los metamos en su lugar: y nuestros niños quedarán en ciudades fuertes á causa de los moradores del país.
But we ourselves will go ready armed before the children of Israel, until we have brought them unto their place: and our little ones shall dwell in the fenced cities because of the inhabitants of the land.

Te prometemos que no volveremos a nuestras casas hasta que todos los israelitas hayan recibido su porción de tierra.

We will not return unto our houses, until the children of Israel have inherited every man his inheritance.

No pediremos ninguna porción de tierra al otro lado del Jordán, porque nuestra herencia ya la hemos recibido de este lado del río, al este”.
Porque no tomaremos heredad con ellos al otro lado del Jordán ni adelante, por cuanto tendremos ya nuestra heredad de estotra parte del Jordán al oriente.
For we will not inherit with them on yonder side Jordan, or forward; because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side Jordan eastward.
For we will not inherit with them on the other side of the Jordan and beyond, because our inheritance has come to us on this side of the Jordan eastward.”
Moisés les contestó: “Si de verdad hacen lo que dicen; si se arman para ir a la guerra bajo el mando de Yahvé,
Entonces les respondió Moisés: Si lo hiciereis así, si os apercibiereis para ir delante de Jehová á la guerra,
And Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will go armed before the LORD to war,
Moses said to them: “If you will do this thing, if you will arm yourselves to go before the LORD to the war,
y si todos sus soldados cruzan el río Jordán bajo el mando de Yahvé, peleando hasta que él expulse a todos sus enemigos,
Y pasareis todos vosotros armados el Jordán delante de Jehová, hasta que haya echado á sus enemigos de delante de sí,
And will go all of you armed over Jordan before the LORD, until he hath driven out his enemies from before him,
and every one of your armed men will pass over the Jordan before the LORD until he has driven out his enemies from before him,
y el país quede conquistado ante Yahvé, entonces podrán regresar. Quedarán libres de su compromiso con Yahvé y con Israel, y Yahvé les dará esta tierra como su propiedad.
Y sea el país sojuzgado delante de Jehová; luego volveréis, y seréis libres de culpa para con Jehová, y para con Israel; y esta tierra será vuestra en heredad delante de Jehová.
And the land be subdued before the LORD: then afterward ye shall return, and be guiltless before the LORD, and before Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the LORD.

“Pero si no cumplen su promesa, estarán pecando contra Yahvé; y pueden estar seguros de que su pecado los alcanzará y recibirán su castigo.
Mas si así no lo hiciereis, he aquí habréis pecado á Jehová; y sabed que os alcanzará vuestro pecado.
But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.
“But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the LORD; and be sure your sin will find you out.
Vayan y construyan ciudades para sus familias y corrales para sus rebaños, pero cumplan lo que han prometido”.
Edificaos ciudades para vuestros niños, y majadas para vuestras ovejas, y haced lo que ha salido de vuestra boca.
Build you cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do that which hath proceeded out of your mouth.

Los de Gad y de Rubén le respondieron a Moisés: “Tus servidores harán todo lo que nuestro señor ha ordenado.
Y hablaron los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Rubén á Moisés, diciendo: Tus siervos harán como mi señor ha mandado.
And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben spake unto Moses, saying, Thy servants will do as my lord commandeth.
The children of Gad and the children of Reuben spoke to Moses, saying, “Your servants will do as my lord commands.
Nuestros niños, nuestras esposas y todo nuestro ganado se quedarán en las ciudades de Galaad;
Nuestros niños, nuestras mujeres, nuestros ganados, y todas nuestras bestias, estarán ahí en las ciudades de Galaad;
Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our cattle, shall be there in the cities of Gilead:

pero nosotros, tus servidores, tomaremos nuestras armas y cruzaremos el río para ir a pelear delante de Yahvé, tal como nuestro señor ha dicho”.
Y tus siervos, armados todos de guerra, pasarán delante de Jehová á la guerra, de la manera que mi señor dice.
But thy servants will pass over, every man armed for war, before the LORD to battle, as my lord saith.

Entonces Moisés les dio instrucciones claras sobre ellos al sacerdote Eleazar, a Josué hijo de Nun, y a los líderes de las familias de las tribus de Israel.
Entonces los encomendó Moisés á Eleazar el sacerdote, y á Josué hijo de Nun, y á los príncipes de los padres de las tribus de los hijos de Israel.
So concerning them Moses commanded Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the chief fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel:
So Moses commanded concerning them to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the heads of the fathers’ households of the tribes of the children of Israel.
Les dijo: “Si los soldados de Gad y de Rubén toman sus armas y cruzan el Jordán con ustedes bajo el mando de Yahvé, y logran conquistar el país, entonces les darán la tierra de Galaad como su propiedad.
Y díjoles Moisés: Si los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Rubén, pasaren con vosotros el Jordán, armados todos de guerra delante de Jehová, luego que el país fuere sojuzgado delante de vosotros, les daréis la tierra de Galaad en posesión:
And Moses said unto them, If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben will pass with you over Jordan, every man armed to battle, before the LORD, and the land shall be subdued before you; then ye shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession:
Moses said to them, “If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben will pass with you over the Jordan, every man who is armed to battle before the LORD, and the land is subdued before you, then you shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession;
Pero si se niegan a cruzar armados, entonces recibirán su porción de tierra junto con ustedes en Canaán”.
Mas si no pasaren armados con vosotros, entonces tendrán posesión entre vosotros en la tierra de Canaán.
But if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.

Los de Gad y de Rubén respondieron: “Haremos exactamente lo que Yahvé les ha ordenado a tus servidores.
Y los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Rubén respondieron, diciendo: Haremos lo que Jehová ha dicho á tus siervos.
And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered, saying, As the LORD hath said unto thy servants, so will we do.

Cruzaremos el río armados y marcharemos delante de Yahvé hacia Canaán, pero nuestra herencia seguirá siendo nuestra aquí, al este del Jordán”.
Nosotros pasaremos armados delante de Jehová á la tierra de Canaán, y la posesión de nuestra heredad será de esta parte del Jordán.
We will pass over armed before the LORD into the land of Canaan, that the possession of our inheritance on this side Jordan may be ours.
We will pass over armed before the LORD into the land of Canaan, and the possession of our inheritance shall remain with us beyond the Jordan.”
Así que Moisés les entregó a las tribus de Gad y de Rubén, y a la mitad de la tribu de Manasés hijo de José, el reino de Sehón, rey de los amorreos, y el reino de Og, rey de Basán. Les dio toda la tierra junto con sus ciudades y los territorios de alrededor.
Así les dió Moisés á los hijos de Gad y á los hijos de Rubén, y á la media tribu de Manasés hijo de José, el reino de Sehón rey Amorrheo, y el reino de Og rey de Basán, la tierra con sus ciudades y términos, las ciudades del país alrededor.
And Moses gave unto them, even to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and unto half the tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, with the cities thereof in the coasts, even the cities of the country round about.

Bet-nimra y Bet-harán. Las fortificaron y les construyeron corrales para sus rebaños.

Los de la tribu de Rubén reconstruyeron las ciudades de Hesbón, Eleale, Quiriatáim,

Nebo, Baal-meón (a la cual le cambiaron el nombre) y Sibma. A todas las ciudades que reconstruyeron les pusieron nombres nuevos.
