Abdías 1

Esta es la visión que Dios el Señor le mostró a Abdías en cuanto a lo que iba a hacer con Edom. Un mensajero ha sido enviado por el Señor para que les dé esta orden a las naciones: «¡Atención! ¡Envíen sus ejércitos contra Edom y destrúyanlo!».

VISIÓN de Abdías. El Señor Jehová ha dicho así cuanto á Edom: Oído hemos el pregón de Jehová, y mensajero es enviado á las gentes. Levantaos, y levantémonos contra ella en batalla.

The vision of Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning Edom; We have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent among the heathen, Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle.

The vision of Obadiah. This is what the Lord GOD says about Edom. We have heard news from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent among the nations, saying, “Arise, and let’s rise up against her in battle.

«Edom, te humillaré entre las naciones, te haré insignificante y despreciable.

He aquí, pequeño te he hecho entre las gentes; abatido eres tú en gran manera.

Behold, I have made thee small among the heathen: thou art greatly despised.

Behold, I have made you small among the nations. You are greatly despised.

»Te sientes muy seguro porque vives en una zona difícil de conquistar, entre rocas altas e inaccesibles. “¿Quién podrá alcanzarnos acá arriba?”, preguntas con jactancia.

La soberbia de tu corazón te ha engañado, tú que moras en las hendiduras de las peñas, en tu altísima morada; que dices en tu corazón: ¿Quién me derribará á tierra?

The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?

The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high, who says in his heart, ‘Who will bring me down to the ground?’

¡No seas necio! Aunque te encumbres tan alto como las águilas, y pongas tus ciudades en zonas tan altas y aparentemente seguras, ahí llegaré para castigarte», dice el Señor.

Si te encaramares como águila, y si entre las estrellas pusieres tu nido, de ahí te derribaré, dice Jehová.

Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the LORD.

Though you mount on high as the eagle, and though your nest is set among the stars, I will bring you down from there,” says the LORD.

«Hubiera sido mejor que ladrones te visitaran de noche para robarte, porque al menos ellos no se lo habrían llevado todo. O que hubieran robado de tus viñas todo el fruto, porque por lo menos habrían quedado sin ser vistos algunos racimos. ¡Pero yo seré más severo en la destrucción!

Si ladrones vinieran á ti, ó robadores de noche (¡cómo has sido destruído!) ¿no hurtaran lo que les bastase? Pues si entraran á ti vendimiadores, aun dejaran algún rebusco.

If thieves came to thee, if robbers by night, (how art thou cut off!) would they not have stolen till they had enough? if the grapegatherers came to thee, would they not leave some grapes?

“If thieves came to you, if robbers by night—oh, what disaster awaits you—wouldn’t they only steal until they had enough? If grape pickers came to you, wouldn’t they leave some gleaning grapes?

Cada rincón y cada escondrijo de tu país será rebuscado y saqueado, y todo tesoro será hallado y tomado.

¡Cómo fueron escudriñadas las cosas de Esaú! sus cosas escondidas fueron buscadas.

How are the things of Esau searched out! how are his hidden things sought up!

How Esau will be ransacked! How his hidden treasures are sought out!

»Todos tus aliados se volverán en tu contra y ayudarán a arrojarte de tu tierra. Te prometerán paz, mientras conspiran para destruirte. Tus amigos de mayor confianza pondrán trampas, te traicionarán y dirán que estás loco.

Hasta el término te hicieron llegar todos tus aliados; te han engañado tus pacíficos, prevalecieron contra ti; los que comían tu pan, pusieron el lazo debajo de ti: no hay en él entendimiento.

All the men of thy confederacy have brought thee even to the border: the men that were at peace with thee have deceived thee, and prevailed against thee; they that eat thy bread have laid a wound under thee: there is none understanding in him.

All the men of your alliance have brought you on your way, even to the border. The men who were at peace with you have deceived you, and prevailed against you. Friends who eat your bread lay a snare under you. There is no understanding in him.”

En aquel tiempo», dice el Señor, «yo acabaré con los sabios de Edom, aniquilaré a todos los sabios consejeros del país.

¿No haré que perezcan en aquel día, dice Jehová, los sabios de Edom, y la prudencia del monte de Esaú?

Shall I not in that day, saith the LORD, even destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mount of Esau?

“Won’t I in that day”, says the LORD, “destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mountain of Esau?

Los soldados más valientes de Temán estarán temblando de miedo, y los que habitan en la región montañosa de Esaú también caerán en la masacre.

Y tus valientes, oh Temán, serán quebrantados; porque todo hombre será talado del monte de Esaú por el estrago.

And thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed, to the end that every one of the mount of Esau may be cut off by slaughter.

Your mighty men, Teman, will be dismayed, to the end that everyone may be cut off from the mountain of Esau by slaughter.

»Y ¿por qué será castigado de tal manera Edom, el pueblo de los descendientes de Esaú? ¡Por lo que le hiciste a los israelitas, los descendientes de tu hermano Jacob! Ahora tus maldades quedarán al descubierto, para que todos se den cuenta de todo el daño que causaste. Serás avergonzado y destruido para siempre.

Por la injuria de tu hermano Jacob te cubrirá vergüenza, y serás talado para siempre.

For thy violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.

For the violence done to your brother Jacob, shame will cover you, and you will be cut off forever.

Esto te sucederá por haber abandonado a Israel en el tiempo de su necesidad. Te quedaste mirando, sin mover un dedo para ayudarlo, cuando los invasores se llevaban sus bienes y se repartían a Jerusalén por suertes. ¡Incluso participaste del saqueo!

El día que estando tú delante, llevaban extraños cautivo su ejército, y los extraños entraban por sus puertas, y echaban suertes sobre Jerusalem, tú también eras como uno de ellos.

In the day that thou stoodest on the other side, in the day that the strangers carried away captive his forces, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even thou wast as one of them.

In the day that you stood on the other side, in the day that strangers carried away his substance and foreigners entered into his gates and cast lots for Jerusalem, even you were like one of them.

»¡No debiste haber actuado así! ¡No debiste haberte alegrado cuando los llevaron cautivos a tierras extrañas! ¡No debiste alegrarte en el día de su infortunio! ¡No debiste burlarte en el día de su necesidad!

Pues no debiste tú estar mirando en el día de tu hermano, el día en que fué extrañado: no te habías de haber alegrado de los hijos de Judá en el día que se perdieron, ni habías de ensanchar tu boca en el día de la angustia:

But thou shouldest not have looked on the day of thy brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither shouldest thou have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither shouldest thou have spoken proudly in the day of distress.

But don’t look down on your brother in the day of his disaster, and don’t rejoice over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction. Don’t speak proudly in the day of distress.

Tú mismo entraste en la tierra de Israel en el día de su desgracia y la saqueaste. Te enriqueciste a sus expensas y estabas feliz viendo su lamentable situación.

No habías de haber entrado por la puerta de mi pueblo en el día de su quebrantamiento; no, no habías tú de haber mirado su mal el día de su quebranto, ni haber echado mano á sus bienes el día de su calamidad.

Thou shouldest not have entered into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity; yea, thou shouldest not have looked on their affliction in the day of their calamity, nor have laid hands on their substance in the day of their calamity;

Don’t enter into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity. Don’t look down on their affliction in the day of their calamity, neither seize their wealth on the day of their calamity.

Te paraste en las encrucijadas para matar a los que trataban de escapar; capturaste a los sobrevivientes y los entregaste a sus enemigos en el tiempo de su terrible angustia.

Tampoco habías de haberte parado en las encrucijadas, para matar los que de ellos escapasen; ni habías tú de haber entregado los que quedaban en el día de angustia.

Neither shouldest thou have stood in the crossway, to cut off those of his that did escape; neither shouldest thou have delivered up those of his that did remain in the day of distress.

Don’t stand in the crossroads to cut off those of his who escape. Don’t deliver up those of his who remain in the day of distress.

»¡Ya se acerca el día en que el Señor castigará a todas las naciones! Edom, lo que tú hiciste con otros, se hará contigo. ¡El daño que le causaste a Israel se volverá contra ti, y recibirás lo que mereces!

Porque cercano está el día de Jehová sobre todas las gentes: como tú hiciste se hará contigo: tu galardón volverá sobre tu cabeza.

For the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head.

For the day of the LORD is near all the nations! As you have done, it will be done to you. Your deeds will return upon your own head.

Ustedes, israelitas, asimilaron todo el daño como si fuera el contenido amargo de una gran copa. Pero les aseguro que las naciones de alrededor también la beberán. ¡Sí, la beberán, y a causa del castigo que les impondré se tambalearán y luego desaparecerán de la historia! ¡Será como si nunca hubieran existido como naciones!

De la manera que vosotros bebisteis en mi santo monte, beberán todas las gentes de continuo; beberán, y engullirán, y serán como si no hubieran sido.

For as ye have drunk upon my holy mountain, so shall all the heathen drink continually, yea, they shall drink, and they shall swallow down, and they shall be as though they had not been.

For as you have drunk on my holy mountain, so all the nations will drink continually. Yes, they will drink, swallow down, and will be as though they had not been.

»Pero Jerusalén se convertirá en refugio de los sobrevivientes de Israel. ¡Israel volverá a ocupar su tierra, aunque sólo será un grupo pequeño de sobrevivientes!

Mas en el monte de Sión habrá salvamento, y será santidad, y la casa de Jacob, poseerá sus posesiones.

But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.

But in Mount Zion, there will be those who escape, and it will be holy. The house of Jacob will possess their possessions.

Israel será como un fuego que incendiará los campos secos de Edom. ¡Ningún edomita quedará vivo!». Lo dice el Señor.

Y la casa de Jacob será fuego, y la casa de José será llama, y la casa de Esaú estopa, y los quemarán, y los consumirán; ni aun reliquia quedará en la casa de Esaú, porque Jehová lo habló.

And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it.

The house of Jacob will be a fire, the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble. They will burn among them and devour them. There will not be any remaining to the house of Esau.” Indeed, the LORD has spoken.

Entonces mi pueblo, que vive en el Néguev, ocupará para habitarla la zona montañosa de los edomitas, los descendientes de Esaú; los que viven en las tierras bajas de Judea tomarán posesión de los valles de los filisteos, y volverán a tomar posesión de los campos de Efraín y de Samaria. Y el pueblo de Benjamín poseerá a Galaad.

Y los del mediodía poseerán el monte de Esaú, y los llanos de los Palestinos; poseerán también los campos de Ephraim, y los campos de Samaria; y Benjamín á Galaad.

And they of the south shall possess the mount of Esau; and they of the plain the Philistines: and they shall possess the fields of Ephraim, and the fields of Samaria: and Benjamin shall possess Gilead.

Those of the South will possess the mountain of Esau, and those of the lowland, the Philistines. They will possess the field of Ephraim, and the field of Samaria. Benjamin will possess Gilead.

Los expatriados de Israel regresarán después del exilio y ocuparán la franja costera de Fenicia hasta Sarepta, por el norte. Los exiliados que estaban en Sefarad regresarán a sus tierras y conquistarán las ciudades del sur.

Y los cautivos de aqueste ejército de los hijos de Israel poseerán lo de los Cananeos hasta Sarepta; y los cautivos de Jerusalem, que están en Sepharad, poseerán las ciudades del mediodía.

And the captivity of this host of the children of Israel shall possess that of the Canaanites, even unto Zarephath; and the captivity of Jerusalem, which is in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the south.

The captives of this army of the children of Israel, who are among the Canaanites, will possess even to Zarephath; and the captives of Jerusalem, who are in Sepharad, will possess the cities of the Negev.

Porque vendrán libertadores a Jerusalén y gobernarán sobre todo Edom. ¡Y el Señor será el Rey!

Y vendrán salvadores al monte de Sión para juzgar al monte de Esaú; y el reino será de Jehová.

And saviours shall come up on mount Zion to judge the mount of Esau; and the kingdom shall be the LORD’s.

Saviors will go up on Mount Zion to judge the mountains of Esau, and the kingdom will be the LORD’s.
