1Es mejor ser pobre y vivir con rectitud que ser un necio que anda diciendo mentiras.
2No es bueno actuar con entusiasmo pero sin conocimiento; el que se apresura, termina por perder el camino.
3La necedad del hombre le echa a perder la vida, y luego su corazón se resiente contra Yahvé.
4La riqueza atrae a muchos amigos, pero al pobre hasta su mejor amigo lo abandona.
5El testigo falso no se librará del castigo; el que suelta mentiras no quedará libre.
6Muchos buscan ganarse el favor del gobernante, y todos son amigos del que da buenos regalos.
7Si al pobre lo desprecian todos sus parientes, ¡con mucha más razón lo evitarán sus amigos! Por más que los busque y les ruegue, ya no los encuentra.
8El que adquiere sabiduría se ama a sí mismo; el que atesora el entendimiento prosperará.
9El testigo falso no se librará del castigo; el que dice mentiras terminará mal.
10No se ve bien que un necio viva rodeado de lujos, y mucho menos que un esclavo gobierne a los príncipes.
11El buen juicio hace que el hombre sea paciente; su gloria consiste en saber perdonar la ofensa.
12El enojo del rey es como el rugido de un león, pero su favor es como el rocío sobre el pasto.
13Un hijo necio es la ruina de su padre, y una esposa que pelea es como una gotera constante.
14La casa y el dinero se heredan de los padres, pero una esposa prudente es un regalo de Yahvé.
15La pereza te hace caer en un sueño profundo; el que es flojo terminará pasando hambre.
16El que obedece el mandamiento protege su vida, pero el que descuida su conducta morirá.
17El que ayuda al pobre le presta a Yahvé, y él mismo se encargará de pagarle.
18Corrige a tu hijo mientras haya esperanza, pero no te pases de la mano hasta matarlo.
19El que no controla su enojo debe pagar las consecuencias; si lo libras una vez, tendrás que hacerlo de nuevo.
20Escucha el consejo y acepta la corrección, para que al final llegues a ser sabio.
21El hombre hace muchos planes en su corazón, pero solo el propósito de Yahvé se cumple.
22Lo que se espera del hombre es lealtad; es mejor ser pobre que ser un mentiroso.
23El temor a Yahvé conduce a la vida; el que lo tiene vive tranquilo y sin temores.
24El perezoso mete la mano en el plato, ¡pero le da flojera hasta llevársela a la boca!
25Dale un buen golpe al burlón y el ingenuo aprenderá; corrige al que es inteligente y será más sabio todavía.
26El que maltrata a su padre y echa fuera a su madre es un hijo vergonzoso que merece el desprecio.
27Hijo mío, si dejas de escuchar la instrucción, pronto te apartarás del buen conocimiento.
28El testigo corrupto se burla de la justicia, y la boca de los malvados se alimenta de maldad.
29El castigo ya está listo para los burlones, y los azotes para la espalda de los necios.

1MEJOR es el pobre que camina en su sencillez, que el de perversos labios y fatuo.
2El alma sin ciencia no es buena; y el presuroso de pies peca.
3La insensatez del hombre tuerce su camino; y contra Jehová se aira su corazón.
4Las riquezas allegan muchos amigos: mas el pobre, de su amigo es apartado.
5El testigo falso no quedará sin castigo; y el que habla mentiras no escapará.
6Muchos rogarán al príncipe: mas cada uno es amigo del hombre que da.
7Todos los hermanos del pobre le aborrecen: ¡cuánto más sus amigos se alejarán de él! buscará la palabra y no la hallará.
8El que posee entendimiento, ama su alma: el que guarda la inteligencia, hallará el bien.
9El testigo falso no quedará sin castigo; y el que habla mentiras, perecerá.
10No conviene al necio el deleite: ¡cuánto menos al siervo ser señor de los príncipes!
11La cordura del hombre detiene su furor; y su honra es disimular la ofensa.
12Como el bramido del cachorro de león es la ira del rey; y su favor como el rocío sobre la hierba.
13Dolor es para su padre el hijo necio; y gotera continua las contiendas de la mujer.
14La casa y las riquezas herencia son de los padres: mas de Jehová la mujer prudente.
15La pereza hace caer en sueño; y el alma negligente hambreará.
16El que guarda el mandamiento, guarda su alma: mas el que menospreciare sus caminos, morirá.
17A Jehová empresta el que da al pobre, y él le dará su paga.
18Castiga á tu hijo en tanto que hay esperanza; mas no se excite tu alma para destruirlo.
19El de grande ira llevará la pena: y si usa de violencias, añadirá nuevos males.
20Escucha el consejo, y recibe la corrección, para que seas sabio en tu vejez.
21Muchos pensamientos hay en el corazón del hombre; mas el consejo de Jehová permanecerá.
22Contentamiento es á los hombres hacer misericordia: pero mejor es el pobre que el mentiroso.
23El temor de Jehová es para vida; y con él vivirá el hombre, lleno de reposo; no será visitado de mal.
24El perezoso esconde su mano en el seno: aun á su boca no la llevará.
25Hiere al escarnecedor, y el simple se hará avisado; y corrigiendo al entendido, entenderá ciencia.
26El que roba á su padre y ahuyenta á su madre, hijo es avergonzador y deshonrador.
27Cesa, hijo mío, de oir la enseñanza que induce á divagar de las razones de sabiduría.
28El testigo perverso se burlará del juicio; y la boca de los impíos encubrirá la iniquidad.
29Aparejados están juicios para los escarnecedores, y azotes para los cuerpos de los insensatos.

1Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.
2Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.
3The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the LORD.
4Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour.
5A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.
6Many will intreat the favour of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.
7All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth them with words, yet they are wanting to him.
8He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.
9A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish.
10Delight is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes.
11The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.
12The king’s wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favour is as dew upon the grass.
13A foolish son is the calamity of his father: and the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.
14House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the LORD.
15Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.
16He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die.
17He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.
18Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.
19A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.
20Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.
21There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.
22The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.
23The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.
24A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
25Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.
26He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.
27Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.
28An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.
29Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.

25Flog a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; rebuke one who has understanding, and he will gain knowledge.
26He who robs his father and drives away his mother is a son who causes shame and brings reproach.
27If you stop listening to instruction, my son, you will stray from the words of knowledge.
28A corrupt witness mocks justice, and the mouth of the wicked gulps down iniquity.
29Penalties are prepared for scoffers, and beatings for the backs of fools.
