1Le vin est moqueur, les boissons fortes sont tumultueuses; Quiconque en fait excès n’est pas sage.
2La terreur qu’inspire le roi est comme le rugissement d’un lion; Celui qui l’irrite pèche contre lui-même.
3C’est une gloire pour l’homme de s’abstenir des querelles, Mais tout insensé se livre à l’emportement.
4A cause du froid, le paresseux ne laboure pas; A la moisson, il voudrait récolter, mais il n’y a rien.
5Les desseins dans le cœur de l’homme sont des eaux profondes, Mais l’homme intelligent sait y puiser.
6Beaucoup de gens proclament leur bonté; Mais un homme fidèle, qui le trouvera?
7Le juste marche dans son intégrité; Heureux ses enfants après lui!
8Le roi assis sur le trône de la justice Dissipe tout mal par son regard.
9Qui dira: J’ai purifié mon cœur, Je suis net de mon péché?
10Deux sortes de poids, deux sortes d’épha, Sont l’un et l’autre en abomination à l’Éternel.
11L’enfant laisse déjà voir par ses actions Si sa conduite sera pure et droite.
12L’oreille qui entend, et l’œil qui voit, C’est l’Éternel qui les a faits l’un et l’autre.
13N’aime pas le sommeil, de peur que tu ne deviennes pauvre; Ouvre les yeux, tu seras rassasié de pain.
14Mauvais! Mauvais! Dit l’acheteur; Et en s’en allant, il se félicite.
15Il y a de l’or et beaucoup de perles; Mais les lèvres savantes sont un objet précieux.
16Prends son vêtement, car il a cautionné autrui; Exige de lui des gages, à cause des étrangers.
17Le pain du mensonge est doux à l’homme, Et plus tard sa bouche est remplie de gravier.
18Les projets s’affermissent par le conseil; Fais la guerre avec prudence.
19Celui qui répand la calomnie dévoile les secrets; Ne te mêle pas avec celui qui ouvre ses lèvres.
20Si quelqu’un maudit son père et sa mère, Sa lampe s’éteindra au milieu des ténèbres.
21Un héritage promptement acquis dès l’origine Ne sera pas béni quand viendra la fin.
22Ne dis pas: Je rendrai le mal. Espère en l’Éternel, et il te délivrera.
23L’Éternel a en horreur deux sortes de poids, Et la balance fausse n’est pas une chose bonne.
24C’est l’Éternel qui dirige les pas de l’homme, Mais l’homme peut-il comprendre sa voie?
25C’est un piège pour l’homme que de prendre à la légère un engagement sacré, Et de ne réfléchir qu’après avoir fait un vœu.
26Un roi sage dissipe les méchants, Et fait passer sur eux la roue.
27Le souffle de l’homme est une lampe de l’Éternel; Il pénètre jusqu’au fond des entrailles.
28La bonté et la fidélité gardent le roi, Et il soutient son trône par la bonté.
29La force est la gloire des jeunes gens, Et les cheveux blancs sont l’ornement des vieillards.
30Les plaies d’une blessure sont un remède pour le méchant; De même les coups qui pénètrent jusqu’au fond des entrailles.

1EL vino es escarnecedor, la cerveza alborotadora; y cualquiera que por ello errare, no será sabio.
2Como bramido de cachorro de león es el terror del rey: el que lo hace enfurecerse, peca contra su alma.
3Honra es del hombre dejarse de contienda: mas todo insensato se envolverá en ella.
4El perezoso no ara á causa del invierno; pedirá pues en la siega, y no hallará.
5Como aguas profundas es el consejo en el corazón del hombre: mas el hombre entendido lo alcanzará.
6Muchos hombres publican cada uno su liberalidad: mas hombre de verdad, ¿quién lo hallará?
7El justo que camina en su integridad, bienaventurados serán sus hijos después de él.
8El rey que se sienta en el trono de juicio, con su mirar disipa todo mal.
9¿Quién podrá decir: Yo he limpiado mi corazón, limpio estoy de mi pecado?
10Doble pesa y doble medida, abominación son á Jehová ambas cosas.
11Aun el muchacho es conocido por sus hechos, si su obra fuere limpia y recta.
12El oído que oye, y el ojo que ve, ambas cosas ha igualmente hecho Jehová.
13No ames el sueño, porque no te empobrezcas; abre tus ojos, y te hartarás de pan.
14El que compra dice: malo es, malo es: mas en apartándose, se alaba.
15Hay oro y multitud de piedras preciosas: mas los labios sabios son vaso precioso.
16Quítale su ropa al que salió por fiador del extraño; y tómale prenda al que fía la extraña.
17Sabroso es al hombre el pan de mentira; mas después su boca será llena de cascajo.
18Los pensamientos con el consejo se ordenan: y con industria se hace la guerra.
19El que descubre el secreto, en chismes anda: no te entrometas, pues, con el que lisonjea con sus labios.
20El que maldice á su padre ó á su madre, su lámpara será apagada en oscuridad tenebrosa.
21La herencia adquirida de priesa al principio, aun su postrimería no será bendita.
22No digas, yo me vengaré; espera á Jehová, y él te salvará.
23Abominación son á Jehová las pesas dobles; y el peso falso no es bueno.
24De Jehová son los pasos del hombre: ¿cómo pues entenderá el hombre su camino?
25Lazo es al hombre el devorar lo santo, y andar pesquisando después de los votos.
26El rey sabio esparce los impíos, y sobre ellos hace tornar la rueda.
27Candela de Jehová es el alma del hombre, que escudriña lo secreto del vientre.
28Misericordia y verdad guardan al rey; y con clemencia sustenta su trono.
29La gloria de los jóvenes es su fortaleza, y la hermosura de los viejos la vejez.
30Las señales de las heridas son medicina para lo malo: y las llagas llegan á lo más secreto del vientre.

1Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
2The fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion: whoso provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul.
3It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.
4The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.
5Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.
6Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?
7The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.
8A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.
9Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?
10Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to the LORD.
11Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.
12The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them.
13Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.
14It is naught, it is naught, saith the buyer: but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.
15There is gold, and a multitude of rubies: but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.
16Take his garment that is surety for a stranger: and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.
17Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.
18Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.
19He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips.
20Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.
21An inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning; but the end thereof shall not be blessed.
22Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.
23Divers weights are an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance is not good.
24Man’s goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?
25It is a snare to the man who devoureth that which is holy, and after vows to make enquiry.
26A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them.
27The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.
28Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upholden by mercy.
29The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the gray head.
30The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly.

1Wine is a mocker and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise.
2The terror of a king is like the roaring of a lion. He who provokes him to anger forfeits his own life.
3It is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife, but every fool will be quarreling.
4The sluggard will not plow by reason of the winter; therefore he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.
5Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out.
6Many men claim to be men of unfailing love, but who can find a faithful man?
7A righteous man walks in integrity. Blessed are his children after him.
8A king who sits on the throne of judgment scatters away all evil with his eyes.
9Who can say, “I have made my heart pure. I am clean and without sin”?
10Differing weights and differing measures, both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.
11Even a child makes himself known by his doings, whether his work is pure, and whether it is right.

25It is a snare to a man to make a rash dedication, then later to consider his vows.
26A wise king winnows out the wicked, and drives the threshing wheel over them.
27The spirit of man is the LORD’s lamp, searching all his innermost parts.
28Love and faithfulness keep the king safe. His throne is sustained by love.
29The glory of young men is their strength. The splendor of old men is their gray hair.
30Wounding blows cleanse away evil, and beatings purge the innermost parts.
