1El vino lleva al hombre a la desvergüenza, las bebidas embriagantes al escándalo; ¡el que está bajo sus efectos no puede ser sabio!
2La furia del rey es como el rugir del león, hacerlo enojar es arriesgar la vida.
3Evitar los pleitos es honroso para el hombre, sólo el necio los empieza.
4El perezoso no labra la tierra en otoño, en tiempo de cosecha buscará y no hallará.
5Los pensamientos secretos son como aguas profundas; el que es inteligente los conocerá.
6Muchos dicen que son amigos fieles, ¿pero se puede encontrar a alguien en quien confiar?
7El justo lleva una vida recta y honrada; ¡felices los hijos que vienen detrás de él!
8Cuando el rey se sienta en su trono a juzgar, con una sola mirada echa fuera toda maldad.
9¿Quién puede decir: «Tengo puro el corazón, estoy limpio de pecado»?
10El Señor aborrece las pesas falsas y las medidas que engañan.
11Por sus acciones el niño revela si su conducta será pura y recta.
12El oído para oír y los ojos para ver son obras de la creación del Señor.
13No seas dormilón o terminarás en la pobreza; mantente despierto y tendrás abundante pan.
14«¡Esto no sirve!», dice el comprador al regatear, pero después se jacta de su buena compra.
15Las palabras sabias son más valiosas que el oro y las piedras preciosas.
16Toma en garantía la prenda del que salga como fiador de un extraño.
17La comida que se gana con engaños tal vez sea sabrosa, pero al final será como llenarse la boca de arena.
18El buen consejo asegura el éxito de los planes; no vayas a la guerra sin una buena estrategia.
19El chismoso cuenta los secretos; no te juntes con el que habla de más.
20Al que maldice a su padre o a su madre, la lámpara de su vida se le apagará en la más terrible oscuridad.
21La herencia que al principio se obtiene con facilidad, al final no traerá alegría.
22No digas: «¡Me vengaré por el mal que me has hecho!». Confía en el Señor y él actuará por ti.
23El Señor aborrece las pesas falsas y el uso de medidas engañosas.
24El Señor dirige los pasos del hombre, ¿cómo puede entonces comprender su propio destino?
25Es peligroso prometerle algo al Señor antes de considerar el costo.
26El rey sabio encuentra a los malvados, los avienta y desmenuza bajo la rueda como trigo.
27El espíritu del hombre es la lámpara del Señor, que examina hasta lo más profundo del ser.
28El rey se mantiene seguro en su trono mientras la misericordia y la verdad lo protejan.
29La gloria de los jóvenes está en su fuerza, la honra de los ancianos está en sus canas.
30Los golpes y las heridas curan la maldad; los azotes purifican lo más íntimo del ser.

1EL vino es escarnecedor, la cerveza alborotadora; y cualquiera que por ello errare, no será sabio.
2Como bramido de cachorro de león es el terror del rey: el que lo hace enfurecerse, peca contra su alma.
3Honra es del hombre dejarse de contienda: mas todo insensato se envolverá en ella.
4El perezoso no ara á causa del invierno; pedirá pues en la siega, y no hallará.
5Como aguas profundas es el consejo en el corazón del hombre: mas el hombre entendido lo alcanzará.
6Muchos hombres publican cada uno su liberalidad: mas hombre de verdad, ¿quién lo hallará?
7El justo que camina en su integridad, bienaventurados serán sus hijos después de él.
8El rey que se sienta en el trono de juicio, con su mirar disipa todo mal.
9¿Quién podrá decir: Yo he limpiado mi corazón, limpio estoy de mi pecado?
10Doble pesa y doble medida, abominación son á Jehová ambas cosas.
11Aun el muchacho es conocido por sus hechos, si su obra fuere limpia y recta.
12El oído que oye, y el ojo que ve, ambas cosas ha igualmente hecho Jehová.
13No ames el sueño, porque no te empobrezcas; abre tus ojos, y te hartarás de pan.
14El que compra dice: malo es, malo es: mas en apartándose, se alaba.
15Hay oro y multitud de piedras preciosas: mas los labios sabios son vaso precioso.
16Quítale su ropa al que salió por fiador del extraño; y tómale prenda al que fía la extraña.
17Sabroso es al hombre el pan de mentira; mas después su boca será llena de cascajo.
18Los pensamientos con el consejo se ordenan: y con industria se hace la guerra.
19El que descubre el secreto, en chismes anda: no te entrometas, pues, con el que lisonjea con sus labios.
20El que maldice á su padre ó á su madre, su lámpara será apagada en oscuridad tenebrosa.
21La herencia adquirida de priesa al principio, aun su postrimería no será bendita.
22No digas, yo me vengaré; espera á Jehová, y él te salvará.
23Abominación son á Jehová las pesas dobles; y el peso falso no es bueno.
24De Jehová son los pasos del hombre: ¿cómo pues entenderá el hombre su camino?
25Lazo es al hombre el devorar lo santo, y andar pesquisando después de los votos.
26El rey sabio esparce los impíos, y sobre ellos hace tornar la rueda.
27Candela de Jehová es el alma del hombre, que escudriña lo secreto del vientre.
28Misericordia y verdad guardan al rey; y con clemencia sustenta su trono.
29La gloria de los jóvenes es su fortaleza, y la hermosura de los viejos la vejez.
30Las señales de las heridas son medicina para lo malo: y las llagas llegan á lo más secreto del vientre.

1Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
2The fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion: whoso provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul.
3It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.
4The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.
5Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.
6Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?
7The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.
8A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.
9Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?
10Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to the LORD.
11Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.
12The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them.
13Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.
14It is naught, it is naught, saith the buyer: but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.
15There is gold, and a multitude of rubies: but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.
16Take his garment that is surety for a stranger: and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.
17Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.
18Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.
19He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips.
20Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.
21An inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning; but the end thereof shall not be blessed.
22Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.
23Divers weights are an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance is not good.
24Man’s goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?
25It is a snare to the man who devoureth that which is holy, and after vows to make enquiry.
26A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them.
27The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.
28Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upholden by mercy.
29The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the gray head.
30The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly.

1Wine is a mocker and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise.
2The terror of a king is like the roaring of a lion. He who provokes him to anger forfeits his own life.
3It is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife, but every fool will be quarreling.
4The sluggard will not plow by reason of the winter; therefore he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.
5Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out.
6Many men claim to be men of unfailing love, but who can find a faithful man?
7A righteous man walks in integrity. Blessed are his children after him.
8A king who sits on the throne of judgment scatters away all evil with his eyes.
9Who can say, “I have made my heart pure. I am clean and without sin”?
10Differing weights and differing measures, both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.

21An inheritance quickly gained at the beginning won’t be blessed in the end.
22Don’t say, “I will pay back evil.” Wait for the LORD, and he will save you.
23The LORD detests differing weights, and dishonest scales are not pleasing.
24A man’s steps are from the LORD; how then can man understand his way?
25It is a snare to a man to make a rash dedication, then later to consider his vows.
26A wise king winnows out the wicked, and drives the threshing wheel over them.
27The spirit of man is the LORD’s lamp, searching all his innermost parts.
28Love and faithfulness keep the king safe. His throne is sustained by love.
29The glory of young men is their strength. The splendor of old men is their gray hair.
30Wounding blows cleanse away evil, and beatings purge the innermost parts.
