Proverbios 20

1Il vino è schernitore, la bevanda alcoolica è turbolenta, e chiunque se ne lascia sopraffare non è savio.
2Il terrore che incute il re è come il ruggito d’un leone; chi lo irrita pecca contro la propria vita.
3E’ una gloria per l’uomo l’astenersi dalle contese, ma chiunque è insensato mostra i denti.
4Il pigro non ara a causa del freddo; alla raccolta verrà a cercare, ma non ci sarà nulla.
5I disegni nel cuor dell’uomo sono acque profonde, ma l’uomo intelligente saprà attingervi.
6Molta gente vanta la propria bontà; ma un uomo fedele chi lo troverà?
7I figliuoli del giusto, che cammina nella sua integrità, saranno beati dopo di lui.
8Il re, assiso sul trono dove rende giustizia, dissipa col suo sguardo ogni male.
9Chi può dire: “Ho nettato il mio cuore, sono puro dal mio peccato?”
10Doppio peso e doppia misura sono ambedue in abominio all’Eterno.
11Anche il fanciullo dà a conoscere con i suoi atti se la sua condotta sarà pura e retta.
12L’orecchio che ascolta e l’occhio che vede, li ha fatti ambedue l’Eterno.
13Non amare il sonno, che tu non abbia a impoverire; tieni aperti gli occhi, e avrai pane da saziarti.
14“Cattivo! cattivo!” dice il compratore; ma, andandosene, si vanta dell’acquisto.
15C’è dell’oro e abbondanza di perle, ma le labbra ricche di scienza son cosa più preziosa.
16Prendigli il vestito, giacché ha fatta cauzione per altri; fatti dare dei pegni, poiché s’è reso garante di stranieri.
17Il pane frodato è dolce all’uomo; ma, dopo, avrà la bocca piena di ghiaia.
18I disegni son resi stabili dal consiglio; fa’ dunque la guerra con una savia direzione.
19Chi va sparlando palesa i segreti; perciò non t’immischiare con chi apre troppo le labbra.
20Chi maledice suo padre e sua madre, la sua lucerna si spegnerà nelle tenebre più fitte.
21L’eredità acquistata troppo presto da principio, alla fine non sarà benedetta.
22Non dire: “Renderò il male”; spera nell’Eterno, ed egli ti salverà.
23Il peso doppio è in abominio all’Eterno, e la bilancia falsa non è cosa buona.
24I passi dell’uomo li dirige l’Eterno; come può quindi l’uomo capir la propria via?
25E’ pericoloso per l’uomo prender leggermente un impegno sacro, e non riflettere che dopo aver fatto un voto.
26Il re savio passa gli empi al vaglio, dopo aver fatto passare la ruota su loro.
27Lo spirito dell’uomo è una lucerna dell’Eterno che scruta tutti i recessi del cuore.
28La bontà e la fedeltà custodiscono il re; e con la bontà egli rende stabile il suo trono.
29La gloria dei giovani sta nella loro forza, e la bellezza dei vecchi, nella loro canizie.
30Le battiture che piagano guariscono il male; e così le percosse che vanno al fondo delle viscere.

1EL vino es escarnecedor, la cerveza alborotadora; y cualquiera que por ello errare, no será sabio.
2Como bramido de cachorro de león es el terror del rey: el que lo hace enfurecerse, peca contra su alma.
3Honra es del hombre dejarse de contienda: mas todo insensato se envolverá en ella.
4El perezoso no ara á causa del invierno; pedirá pues en la siega, y no hallará.
5Como aguas profundas es el consejo en el corazón del hombre: mas el hombre entendido lo alcanzará.
6Muchos hombres publican cada uno su liberalidad: mas hombre de verdad, ¿quién lo hallará?
7El justo que camina en su integridad, bienaventurados serán sus hijos después de él.
8El rey que se sienta en el trono de juicio, con su mirar disipa todo mal.
9¿Quién podrá decir: Yo he limpiado mi corazón, limpio estoy de mi pecado?
10Doble pesa y doble medida, abominación son á Jehová ambas cosas.
11Aun el muchacho es conocido por sus hechos, si su obra fuere limpia y recta.
12El oído que oye, y el ojo que ve, ambas cosas ha igualmente hecho Jehová.
13No ames el sueño, porque no te empobrezcas; abre tus ojos, y te hartarás de pan.
14El que compra dice: malo es, malo es: mas en apartándose, se alaba.
15Hay oro y multitud de piedras preciosas: mas los labios sabios son vaso precioso.
16Quítale su ropa al que salió por fiador del extraño; y tómale prenda al que fía la extraña.
17Sabroso es al hombre el pan de mentira; mas después su boca será llena de cascajo.
18Los pensamientos con el consejo se ordenan: y con industria se hace la guerra.
19El que descubre el secreto, en chismes anda: no te entrometas, pues, con el que lisonjea con sus labios.
20El que maldice á su padre ó á su madre, su lámpara será apagada en oscuridad tenebrosa.
21La herencia adquirida de priesa al principio, aun su postrimería no será bendita.
22No digas, yo me vengaré; espera á Jehová, y él te salvará.
23Abominación son á Jehová las pesas dobles; y el peso falso no es bueno.
24De Jehová son los pasos del hombre: ¿cómo pues entenderá el hombre su camino?
25Lazo es al hombre el devorar lo santo, y andar pesquisando después de los votos.
26El rey sabio esparce los impíos, y sobre ellos hace tornar la rueda.
27Candela de Jehová es el alma del hombre, que escudriña lo secreto del vientre.
28Misericordia y verdad guardan al rey; y con clemencia sustenta su trono.
29La gloria de los jóvenes es su fortaleza, y la hermosura de los viejos la vejez.
30Las señales de las heridas son medicina para lo malo: y las llagas llegan á lo más secreto del vientre.

1Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
2The fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion: whoso provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul.
3It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.
4The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.
5Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.
6Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?
7The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him.
8A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.
9Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?
10Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to the LORD.
11Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.
12The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them.
13Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.
14It is naught, it is naught, saith the buyer: but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.
15There is gold, and a multitude of rubies: but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.
16Take his garment that is surety for a stranger: and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.
17Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.
18Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.
19He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips.
20Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.
21An inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning; but the end thereof shall not be blessed.
22Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.
23Divers weights are an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance is not good.
24Man’s goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?
25It is a snare to the man who devoureth that which is holy, and after vows to make enquiry.
26A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them.
27The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.
28Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upholden by mercy.
29The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the gray head.
30The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly.

1Wine is a mocker and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise.
2The terror of a king is like the roaring of a lion. He who provokes him to anger forfeits his own life.
3It is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife, but every fool will be quarreling.
4The sluggard will not plow by reason of the winter; therefore he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.
5Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out.
6Many men claim to be men of unfailing love, but who can find a faithful man?
7A righteous man walks in integrity. Blessed are his children after him.
8A king who sits on the throne of judgment scatters away all evil with his eyes.
9Who can say, “I have made my heart pure. I am clean and without sin”?
10Differing weights and differing measures, both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.

22Don’t say, “I will pay back evil.” Wait for the LORD, and he will save you.
23The LORD detests differing weights, and dishonest scales are not pleasing.
24A man’s steps are from the LORD; how then can man understand his way?
25It is a snare to a man to make a rash dedication, then later to consider his vows.
26A wise king winnows out the wicked, and drives the threshing wheel over them.
27The spirit of man is the LORD’s lamp, searching all his innermost parts.
28Love and faithfulness keep the king safe. His throne is sustained by love.
29The glory of young men is their strength. The splendor of old men is their gray hair.
30Wounding blows cleanse away evil, and beatings purge the innermost parts.
