La necedad se pega al corazón del niño. La vara de la corrección se la apartará.
La necedad está ligada en el corazón del muchacho; mas la vara de la corrección la hará alejar de él.
Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

El que oprime al pobre enriquece. Quien da al rico se empobrece.

Inclina tu oído, escucha las palabras de los sabios Y aplica tu corazón a mis enseñanzas,

¿No te escribí cosas excelentes de consejos y enseñanzas,

Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,
Haven’t I written to you thirty excellent things of counsel and knowledge,
Para que conozcas la certeza de los dichos de verdad, Y las hagas llegar a los que te son enviados?
Para hacerte saber la certidumbre de las razones verdaderas, para que puedas responder razones de verdad á los que á ti enviaren?
That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?
To teach you truth, reliable words, to give sound answers to the ones who sent you?
No explotes al pobre, porque es pobre, Ni atropelles al desgraciado en la puerta,
No robes al pobre, porque es pobre, ni quebrantes en la puerta al afligido:
Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:
Don’t exploit the poor because he is poor; and don’t crush the needy in court;
Porque Yavé defenderá su causa Y quitará la vida a los que la quitan a otro.
Porque Jehová juzgará la causa de ellos, y despojará el alma de aquellos que los despojaren.
For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.
for the LORD will plead their case, and plunder the life of those who plunder them.
No hagas amistad con el hombre iracundo, Ni te hagas acompañar del hombre violento,
No te entrometas con el iracundo, ni te acompañes con el hombre de enojos;
Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:
Don’t befriend a hot-tempered man. Don’t associate with one who harbors anger,
No sea que te acostumbres a sus caminos, Y coloques lazo a tu propia alma.
Porque no aprendas sus maneras, y tomes lazo para tu alma.
Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.
lest you learn his ways and ensnare your soul.
No seas tú de los que dan la mano, Y salen fiadores de deudas.
No estés entre los que tocan la mano, entre los que fían por deudas.
Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts.
Don’t you be one of those who strike hands, of those who are collateral for debts.
Si no tienes con qué pagar, ¿Por qué te quitarán tu propia cama?
Si no tuvieres para pagar, ¿por qué han de quitar tu cama de debajo de ti?
If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?
If you don’t have means to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you?
No remuevas el lindero antiguo Que colocaron tus antepasados.
No traspases el término antiguo que pusieron tus padres.
Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.
Don’t move the ancient boundary stone which your fathers have set up.
¿Has visto hombre diligente en su obra? Estará delante de los reyes y no de la gentuza.
¿Has visto hombre solícito en su obra? delante de los reyes estará; no estará delante de los de baja suerte.
Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.
Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve kings. He won’t serve obscure men.
