Comme le vinaigre ne vaut rien à un ulcère, ainsi la douleur du corps attriste le cœur ; et comme le bois est rongé par la pourriture, et les vêtements par un ver, ainsi le cœur de l'homme est rongé par la tristesse.

El que canta canciones al corazón afligido, es como el que quita la ropa en tiempo de frío, ó el que sobre el jabón echa vinagre.

As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.

As one who takes away a garment in cold weather, or vinegar on soda, so is one who sings songs to a heavy heart.
