Thine own friend, and thy father’s friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother’s house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.

El prudente ve el peligro y se protege; el imprudente sigue adelante y sufre las consecuencias.
El avisado ve el mal, y escóndese; mas los simples pasan, y llevan el daño.

Toma en prenda la ropa del que salió de fiador de un extraño.

Take his garment when he puts up collateral for a stranger. Hold it for a wayward woman!
El mejor saludo se juzga una impertinencia cuando se da a gritos y de madrugada.
El que bendice á su amigo en alta voz, madrugando de mañana, por maldición se le contará.
He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.
He who blesses his neighbor with a loud voice early in the morning, it will be taken as a curse by him.
Como gotera constante en día lluvioso es la mujer que constantemente pelea.
Gotera continua en tiempo de lluvia, y la mujer rencillosa, son semejantes:
A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.
A continual dropping on a rainy day and a contentious wife are alike:
Lograr que deje de pelear es como detener el viento o retener aceite en la mano.
El que pretende contenerla, arresta el viento: ó el aceite en su mano derecha.
Whosoever hideth her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right hand, which bewrayeth itself.
restraining her is like restraining the wind, or like grasping oil in his right hand.
El hierro se afila con el hierro y el hombre al relacionarse con el hombre.
Hierro con hierro se aguza; y el hombre aguza el rostro de su amigo.
Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

El que cuida de la higuera come sus higos, el que cuida de su amo recibe honores.

El sepulcro, la muerte y los ojos del hombre jamás se dan por satisfechos.

Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet will not his foolishness depart from him.
Though you grind a fool in a mortar with a pestle along with grain, yet his foolishness will not be removed from him.
Date cuenta de la condición de tus rebaños y cuida mucho de tus ovejas;
Considera atentamente el aspecto de tus ovejas; pon tu corazón á tus rebaños:
Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.
Know well the state of your flocks, and pay attention to your herds,
porque ni las riquezas ni la corona duran por siempre.
Porque las riquezas no son para siempre; ¿y será la corona para perpetuas generaciones?
For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation?
for riches are not forever, nor does the crown endure to all generations.
Cuando salga el pasto y brote el verdor, y se recoja la hierba en los montes,
Saldrá la grama, aparecerá la hierba, y segaránse las hierbas de los montes.
The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered.
The hay is removed, and the new growth appears, the grasses of the hills are gathered in.
tus ovejas te darán lana para vestidos, y tus cabras para comprar un terreno;
Los corderos para tus vestidos, y los cabritos para el precio del campo:
The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field.
The lambs are for your clothing, and the goats are the price of a field.
tendrás suficiente leche de cabra para alimentarte tú, tu familia y tus siervos.
Y abundancia de leche de las cabras para tu mantenimiento, y para mantenimiento de tu casa, y para sustento de tus criadas.
And thou shalt have goats’ milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens.
There will be plenty of goats’ milk for your food, for your family’s food, and for the nourishment of your servant girls.
