Estos son los dichos del rey Lemuel por medio de los cuales su madre le enseñó:
PALABRAS del rey Lemuel; la profecía con que le enseñó su madre.

Hijo mío, fruto de mi vientre, cumplimiento de mis promesas,
¿Qué, hijo mío? ¿y qué, hijo de mi vientre? ¿y qué, hijo de mis deseos?
What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?
“Oh, my son! Oh, son of my womb! Oh, son of my vows!
no gastes tu vitalidad con mujeres, ni tu fuerza en las que causan la ruina de los reyes.
No des á las mujeres tu fuerza, ni tus caminos á lo que es para destruir los reyes.
Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.
Don’t give your strength to women, nor your ways to that which destroys kings.
No está bien que los reyes, oh Lemuel, se entreguen al vino o que los gobernantes se den al licor,
No es de los reyes, oh Lemuel, no es de los reyes beber vino, ni de los príncipes la cerveza.
It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:
It is not for kings, Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine, nor for princes to say, ‘Where is strong drink?’
pues si lo hacen puede que olviden sus deberes y sean incapaces de administrar justicia a los oprimidos.
No sea que bebiendo olviden la ley, y perviertan el derecho de todos los hijos afligidos.
Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

El licor es para los moribundos y el vino para los deprimidos;
Dad la cerveza al desfallecido, y el vino á los de amargo ánimo:

¡que beban para olvidar su pobreza y para que no vuelvan a recordar sus penas!

¡Alza la voz por los pobres y necesitados y procura que se les haga justicia!

Mujer ejemplar, ¿dónde se hallará? ¡Vale más que las piedras preciosas!
Mujer fuerte, ¿quién la hallará? porque su estima sobrepuja largamente á la de piedras preciosas.
Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

Su esposo puede confiar plenamente en ella y no le faltan ganancias.

Ella no es un estorbo para él, sino una ayuda todos los días de su vida.

Es como un barco mercante, que trae su alimento desde muy lejos.
Fué como navío de mercader: trae su pan de lejos.
She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

Madruga para preparar el desayuno a su familia, y les asigna las tareas del día a sus criadas.
Levantóse aun de noche, y dió comida á su familia, y ración á sus criadas.
She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.

Sale a inspeccionar un terreno y lo compra, con sus ganancias planta un viñedo.
Consideró la heredad, y compróla; y plantó viña del fruto de sus manos.
She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

Está llena de vitalidad, y está lista para trabajar.
Ciñó sus lomos de fortaleza, y esforzó sus brazos.
She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.

Se complace con la prosperidad de sus negocios, y no se apaga su lámpara en la noche.
Gustó que era buena su granjería: su candela no se apagó de noche.
She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.
She perceives that her merchandise is profitable. Her lamp doesn’t go out by night.
Sus manos están ocupadas hilando y tejiendo.
Aplicó sus manos al huso, y sus manos tomaron la rueca.
She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
She lays her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle.
Les tiende su mano en ayuda a los pobres y necesitados.
Alargó su mano al pobre, y extendió sus manos al menesteroso.
She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
She opens her arms to the poor; yes, she extends her hands to the needy.
No le preocupa que nieve, pues todos los de su casa andan bien abrigados.
No tendrá temor de la nieve por su familia, porque toda su familia está vestida de ropas dobles.

Su esposo es bien conocido en la comunidad, pues se sienta entre las autoridades de la ciudad.
Conocido es su marido en las puertas, cuando se sienta con los ancianos de la tierra.

Ella hace ropa de lino y cinturones, y los vende a los comerciantes.
Hizo telas, y vendió; y dió cintas al mercader.
She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
She makes linen garments and sells them, and delivers sashes to the merchant.
Está revestida de fuerza y dignidad, y no le teme al futuro.
Fortaleza y honor son su vestidura; y en el día postrero reirá.
Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.

Cuando habla, sus palabras son sabias, cuando enseña, lo hace siempre con amor.
Abrió su boca con sabiduría: y la ley de clemencia está en su lengua.
She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

Observa con cuidado lo que sucede en su casa, y no come el pan por el que no ha trabajado.

Sus hijos se levantan y la bendicen, su esposo la alaba diciendo:
Levantáronse sus hijos, y llamáronla bienaventurada; y su marido también la alabó.

«¡Hay muchas mujeres ejemplares, pero tú eres la mejor de todas!».

Los encantos pueden engañar y la belleza no dura, pero la mujer que honra al Señor es digna de alabanza.
Engañosa es la gracia, y vana la hermosura: la mujer que teme á Jehová, ésa será alabada.
Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.

¡Alábenla por todo lo que ha hecho y públicamente reconozcan sus obras!
