Atiende, hijo mío, a lo que te enseña mi sabiduría, e inclina tus oídos a los documentos de mi prudencia;
HIJO mío, está atento á mi sabiduría, y á mi inteligencia inclina tu oído;
My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:
My son, pay attention to my wisdom. Turn your ear to my understanding,
para que observes mis consejos, y no se aparten de tus labios mis instrucciones. No te dejes llevar de las lisonjas de la mujer;
Para que guardes consejo, y tus labios conserven la ciencia.
That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.
that you may maintain discretion, that your lips may preserve knowledge.
porque los labios de la ramera son como un panal que destila miel, y son más suaves que el aceite sus palabras.
Porque los labios de la extraña destilan miel, y su paladar es más blando que el aceite:
For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:
For the lips of an adulteress drip honey. Her mouth is smoother than oil,
Pero sus dejos son amargos como ajenjos, y penetrantes como espada de dos filos.
Mas su fin es amargo como el ajenjo, agudo como cuchillo de dos filos.
But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword.
but in the end she is as bitter as wormwood, and as sharp as a two-edged sword.
Sus pies se encaminan hacia la muerte, y sus pasos van a parar al infierno.
Sus pies descienden á la muerte; sus pasos sustentan el sepulcro:
Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.
Her feet go down to death. Her steps lead straight to Sheol.
Andan descarriados; incierta e incomprensible es su conducta.
Sus caminos son instables; no los conocerás, si no considerares el camino de vida.
Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.
She gives no thought to the way of life. Her ways are crooked, and she doesn’t know it.
Ahora, pues, hijo mío, escúchame y no te apartes de los documentos que te doy.
Ahora pues, hijos, oidme, y no os apartéis de las razones de mi boca.
Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.
Now therefore, my sons, listen to me. Don’t depart from the words of my mouth.
Huye lejos de ella; jamás te acerques a las puertas de su casa,
Aleja de ella tu camino, y no te acerques á la puerta de su casa;
Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:
Remove your way far from her. Don’t come near the door of her house,
a fin de que no entregues tu honra a gente extraña, ni tus floridos años a una cruel.
Porque no des á los extraños tu honor, y tus años á cruel;
Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:
lest you give your honor to others, and your years to the cruel one;
A no ser que quieras que los extraños se enriquezcan con tus bienes, y que vaya a parar en casa de otro el fruto de tus sudores.
Porque no se harten los extraños de tu fuerza, y tus trabajos estén en casa del extraño;
Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;
lest strangers feast on your wealth, and your labors enrich another man’s house.
Por donde tengas al fin que gemir, cuando habrás consumido tus carnes y tu cuerpo, y hayas de decir:
Y gimas en tus postrimerías, cuando se consumiere tu carne y tu cuerpo,
And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
You will groan at your latter end, when your flesh and your body are consumed,
¿Por qué detesté yo la corrección, y no se rindió mi corazón a las reprensiones,
Y digas: ¡Cómo aborrecí el consejo, y mi corazón menospreció la reprensión;
And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
and say, “How I have hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof.
ni quise escuchar la voz de los que me amonestaban, ni la instrucción de mis maestros?
Y no oí la voz de los que me adoctrinaban, y á los que me enseñaban no incliné mi oído!
And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!
I haven’t obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor turned my ear to those who instructed me!
En toda suerte de males o vicios me vi en medio de la congregación y del pueblo.
Casi en todo mal he estado, en medio de la sociedad y de la congregación.
I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.
I have come to the brink of utter ruin, among the gathered assembly.”
Bebe, pues, el agua de tu aljibe, y de los manantiales de tu pozo.
Bebe el agua de tu cisterna, y los raudales de tu pozo.
Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.
Drink water out of your own cistern, running water out of your own well.
Que rebosen por fuera tus manantiales, y se esparzan tus aguas, o tus hijos e hijas, por las plazas.
Derrámense por de fuera tus fuentes, en las plazas los ríos de aguas.
Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.
Should your springs overflow in the streets, streams of water in the public squares?
Sé tú solo el dueño de ellas, y no entren a la parte contigo los extraños.
Sean para ti solo, y no para los extraños contigo.
Let them be only thine own, and not strangers’ with thee.
Let them be for yourself alone, not for strangers with you.
Bendita sea tu vena de aguas, y vive alegre y contento con la esposa que tomaste en tu juventud.
Sea bendito tu manantial; y alégrate con la mujer de tu mocedad.
Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
Let your spring be blessed. Rejoice in the wife of your youth.
Sea ella tus delicias, como hermosísima cierva, y como gracioso cervatillo; sus cariños sean tu recreo en todo tiempo; busca siempre tu placer en su amor.
Como cierva amada y graciosa corza, sus pechos te satisfagan en todo tiempo; y en su amor recréate siempre.
Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.
A loving doe and a graceful deer— let her breasts satisfy you at all times. Be captivated always with her love.
¿Por qué te dejas, hijo mío, embaucar de mujer ajena, y reposas en el regazo de la extraña?
¿Y por qué, hijo mío, andarás ciego con la ajena, y abrazarás el seno de la extraña?
And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
For why should you, my son, be captivated with an adulteress? Why embrace the bosom of another?
El Señor está mirando atentamente los caminos del hombre, y nota todos sus pasos.
Pues que los caminos del hombre están ante los ojos de Jehová, y él considera todas sus veredas.
For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.
For the ways of man are before the LORD’s eyes. He examines all his paths.
El impío será presa de sus mismas iniquidades, y quedará enredado en los lazos de su pecado.
Prenderán al impío sus propias iniquidades, y detenido será con las cuerdas de su pecado.
His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.
The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare him. The cords of his sin hold him firmly.
Al fin, él morirá infelizmente, porque desechó la amonestación; y se hallará engañado por el exceso de su locura.
El morirá por falta de corrección; y errará por la grandeza de su locura.
He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.
He will die for lack of instruction. In the greatness of his folly, he will go astray.
