A Canticle in steps. When troubled, I cried out to the Lord, and he heard me.

ALEPH. BIENAVENTURADOS los perfectos de camino; los que andan en la ley de Jehová.

Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD.

Blessed are those whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the LORD’s law.

O Lord, free my soul from lips of iniquity and from the deceitful tongue.

Bienaventurados los que guardan sus testimonios, y con todo el corazón le buscan:

Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.

Blessed are those who keep his statutes, who seek him with their whole heart.

What will be given to you, or what will be added to you, for a deceitful tongue?:

Pues no hacen iniquidad los que andan en sus caminos.

They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways.

Yes, they do nothing wrong. They walk in his ways.

the sharp arrows of the powerful, along with the burning coals of desolation.

Tú encargaste que sean muy guardados tus mandamientos.

Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently.

You have commanded your precepts, that we should fully obey them.

Woe to me, for my sojourning has been prolonged. I have lived with the inhabitants of Kedar.

¡Ojalá fuesen ordenados mis caminos á observar tus estatutos!

O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes!

Oh that my ways were steadfast to obey your statutes!

My soul has long been a sojourner.

Entonces no sería yo avergonzado, cuando atendiese á todos tus mandamientos.

Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments.

Then I wouldn’t be disappointed, when I consider all of your commandments.

With those who hated peace, I was peaceful. When I spoke to them, they fought against me without cause.

Te alabaré con rectitud de corazón, cuando aprendiere los juicios de tu justicia.

I will praise thee with uprightness of heart, when I shall have learned thy righteous judgments.

I will give thanks to you with uprightness of heart, when I learn your righteous judgments.

Tus estatutos guardaré: no me dejes enteramente.

I will keep thy statutes: O forsake me not utterly.

I will observe your statutes. Don’t utterly forsake me. BETH

BETH ¿Con qué limpiará el joven su camino? Con guardar tu palabra.

Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.

How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word.

—

Con todo mi corazón te he buscado: no me dejes divagar de tus mandamientos.

With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.

With my whole heart I have sought you. Don’t let me wander from your commandments.

En mi corazón he guardado tus dichos, para no pecar contra ti.

Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

Bendito tú, oh Jehová: enséñame tus estatutos.

Blessed art thou, O LORD: teach me thy statutes.

Blessed are you, LORD. Teach me your statutes.

Con mis labios he contado todos los juicios de tu boca.

With my lips have I declared all the judgments of thy mouth.

With my lips, I have declared all the ordinances of your mouth.

—

Heme gozado en el camino de tus testimonios, como sobre toda riqueza.

I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, as much as in all riches.

I have rejoiced in the way of your testimonies, as much as in all riches.

—

En tus mandamientos meditaré, consideraré tus caminos.

I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways.

I will meditate on your precepts, and consider your ways.

Recrearéme en tus estatutos: no me olvidaré de tus palabras.

I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.

GIMEL. Haz bien á tu siervo; que viva y guarde tu palabra.

Deal bountifully with thy servant, that I may live, and keep thy word.

Do good to your servant. I will live and I will obey your word.

Abre mis ojos, y miraré las maravillas de tu ley.

Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.

Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things out of your law.

Advenedizo soy yo en la tierra: no encubras de mí tus mandamientos.

I am a stranger in the earth: hide not thy commandments from me.

I am a stranger on the earth. Don’t hide your commandments from me.

Quebrantada está mi alma de desear tus juicios en todo tiempo.

My soul breaketh for the longing that it hath unto thy judgments at all times.

My soul is consumed with longing for your ordinances at all times.

—

Destruiste á los soberbios malditos, que se desvían de tus mandamientos.

Thou hast rebuked the proud that are cursed, which do err from thy commandments.

You have rebuked the proud who are cursed, who wander from your commandments.

—

Aparta de mí oprobio y menosprecio; porque tus testimonios he guardado.

Remove from me reproach and contempt; for I have kept thy testimonies.

Take reproach and contempt away from me, for I have kept your statutes.

—

Príncipes también se sentaron y hablaron contra mí: mas tu siervo meditaba en tus estatutos.

Princes also did sit and speak against me: but thy servant did meditate in thy statutes.

Though princes sit and slander me, your servant will meditate on your statutes.

—

Pues tus testimonios son mis deleites, y mis consejeros.

Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counsellors.

Indeed your statutes are my delight, and my counselors. DALETH

DALETH. Pegóse al polvo mi alma: vivifícame según tu palabra.

My soul cleaveth unto the dust: quicken thou me according to thy word.

My soul is laid low in the dust. Revive me according to your word!

Mis caminos te conté, y me has respondido: enséñame tus estatutos.

I have declared my ways, and thou heardest me: teach me thy statutes.

I declared my ways, and you answered me. Teach me your statutes.

Hazme entender el camino de tus mandamientos, y hablaré de tus maravillas.

Make me to understand the way of thy precepts: so shall I talk of thy wondrous works.

Let me understand the teaching of your precepts! Then I will meditate on your wondrous works.

Deshácese mi alma de ansiedad: corrobórame según tu palabra.

My soul melteth for heaviness: strengthen thou me according unto thy word.

My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word.

—

Aparta de mí camino de mentira; y hazme la gracia de tu ley.

Remove from me the way of lying: and grant me thy law graciously.

Keep me from the way of deceit. Grant me your law graciously!

Escogí el camino de la verdad; he puesto tus juicios delante de mí.

I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid before me.

I have chosen the way of truth. I have set your ordinances before me.

Allegádome he á tus testimonios; oh Jehová, no me avergüences.

I have stuck unto thy testimonies: O LORD, put me not to shame.

I cling to your statutes, LORD. Don’t let me be disappointed.

Por el camino de tus mandamientos correré, cuando ensanchares mi corazón.

I will run the way of thy commandments, when thou shalt enlarge my heart.

I run in the path of your commandments, for you have set my heart free. HE

HE. Enséñame, oh Jehová, el camino de tus estatutos, y guardarélo hasta el fin.

Teach me, O LORD, the way of thy statutes; and I shall keep it unto the end.

Teach me, LORD, the way of your statutes. I will keep them to the end.

Dame entendimiento, y guardaré tu ley; y la observaré de todo corazón.

Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart.

Guíame por la senda de tus mandamientos; porque en ella tengo mi voluntad.

Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight.

Direct me in the path of your commandments, for I delight in them.

Inclina mi corazón á tus testimonios, y no á la avaricia.

Incline my heart unto thy testimonies, and not to covetousness.

Turn my heart toward your statutes, not toward selfish gain.

Aparta mis ojos, que no vean la vanidad; avívame en tu camino.

Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way.

Turn my eyes away from looking at worthless things. Revive me in your ways.

Confirma tu palabra á tu siervo, que te teme.

Stablish thy word unto thy servant, who is devoted to thy fear.

Fulfill your promise to your servant, that you may be feared.

—

Quita de mí el oprobio que he temido: porque buenos son tus juicios.

Turn away my reproach which I fear: for thy judgments are good.

Take away my disgrace that I dread, for your ordinances are good.

—

He aquí yo he codiciado tus mandamientos: vivifícame en tu justicia.

Behold, I have longed after thy precepts: quicken me in thy righteousness.

Behold, I long for your precepts! Revive me in your righteousness. VAV

VAU. Y venga á mí tu misericordia, oh Jehová; tu salud, conforme á tu dicho.

Let thy mercies come also unto me, O LORD, even thy salvation, according to thy word.

Let your loving kindness also come to me, LORD, your salvation, according to your word.

—

Y daré por respuesta á mi avergonzador, que en tu palabra he confiado.

So shall I have wherewith to answer him that reproacheth me: for I trust in thy word.

So I will have an answer for him who reproaches me, for I trust in your word.

—

Y no quites de mi boca en ningún tiempo la palabra de verdad; porque á tu juicio espero.

And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth; for I have hoped in thy judgments.

Don’t snatch the word of truth out of my mouth, for I put my hope in your ordinances.

—

Y guardaré tu ley siempre, por siglo de siglo.

So shall I keep thy law continually for ever and ever.

So I will obey your law continually, forever and ever.

—

Y andaré en anchura, porque busqué tus mandamientos.

And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts.

I will walk in liberty, for I have sought your precepts.

—

Y hablaré de tus testimonios delante de los reyes, y no me avergonzaré.

I will speak of thy testimonies also before kings, and will not be ashamed.

I will also speak of your statutes before kings, and will not be disappointed.

—

Y deleitaréme en tus mandamientos, que he amado.

And I will delight myself in thy commandments, which I have loved.

I will delight myself in your commandments, because I love them.

—

Alzaré asimismo mis manos á tus mandamientos, que amé; y meditaré en tus estatutos.

My hands also will I lift up unto thy commandments, which I have loved; and I will meditate in thy statutes.

I reach out my hands for your commandments, which I love. I will meditate on your statutes. ZAYIN

ZAIN. Acuérdate de la palabra dada á tu siervo, en la cual me has hecho esperar.

Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope.

Remember your word to your servant, because you gave me hope.

Esta es mi consuelo en mi aflicción: porque tu dicho me ha vivificado.

This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me.

This is my comfort in my affliction, for your word has revived me.

—

Los soberbios se burlaron mucho de mí: mas no me he apartado de tu ley.

The proud have had me greatly in derision: yet have I not declined from thy law.

The arrogant mock me excessively, but I don’t swerve from your law.

—

Acordéme, oh Jehová, de tus juicios antiguos, y consoléme.

I remembered thy judgments of old, O LORD; and have comforted myself.

I remember your ordinances of old, LORD, and have comforted myself.

—

Horror se apoderó de mí, á causa de los impíos que dejan tu ley.

Horror hath taken hold upon me because of the wicked that forsake thy law.

Indignation has taken hold on me, because of the wicked who forsake your law.

—

Cánticos me fueron tus estatutos en la mansión de mis peregrinaciones.

Thy statutes have been my songs in the house of my pilgrimage.

Your statutes have been my songs in the house where I live.

—

Acordéme en la noche de tu nombre, oh Jehová, y guardé tu ley.

I have remembered thy name, O LORD, in the night, and have kept thy law.

I have remembered your name, LORD, in the night, and I obey your law.

—

Esto tuve, porque guardaba tus mandamientos.

This I had, because I kept thy precepts.

This is my way, that I keep your precepts. HETH

CHETH. Mi porción, oh Jehová, dije, será guardar tus palabras.

Thou art my portion, O LORD: I have said that I would keep thy words.

The LORD is my portion. I promised to obey your words.

Tu presencia supliqué de todo corazón: ten misericordia de mí según tu palabra.

I intreated thy favour with my whole heart: be merciful unto me according to thy word.

I sought your favor with my whole heart. Be merciful to me according to your word.

—

Consideré mis caminos, y torné mis pies á tus testimonios.

I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto thy testimonies.

I considered my ways, and turned my steps to your statutes.

—

Apresuréme, y no me retardé en guardar tus mandamientos.

I made haste, and delayed not to keep thy commandments.

I will hurry, and not delay, to obey your commandments.

—

Compañías de impíos me han robado: mas no me he olvidado de tu ley.

The bands of the wicked have robbed me: but I have not forgotten thy law.

The ropes of the wicked bind me, but I won’t forget your law.

—

A media noche me levantaba á alabarte sobre los juicios de tu justicia.

At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee because of thy righteous judgments.

At midnight I will rise to give thanks to you, because of your righteous ordinances.

—

Compañero soy yo de todos los que te temieren y guardaren tus mandamientos.

I am a companion of all them that fear thee, and of them that keep thy precepts.

I am a friend of all those who fear you, of those who observe your precepts.

De tu misericordia, oh Jehová, está llena la tierra: enséñame tus estatutos.

The earth, O LORD, is full of thy mercy: teach me thy statutes.

The earth is full of your loving kindness, LORD. Teach me your statutes. TETH

TETH. Bien has hecho con tu siervo, oh Jehová, conforme á tu palabra.

Thou hast dealt well with thy servant, O LORD, according unto thy word.

You have treated your servant well, according to your word, LORD.

Enséñame bondad de sentido y sabiduría; porque tus mandamientos he creído.

Teach me good judgment and knowledge: for I have believed thy commandments.

Teach me good judgment and knowledge, for I believe in your commandments.

Antes que fuera yo humillado, descarriado andaba; mas ahora guardo tu palabra.

Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word.

Before I was afflicted, I went astray; but now I observe your word.

Bueno eres tú, y bienhechor: enséñame tus estatutos.

Thou art good, and doest good; teach me thy statutes.

You are good, and do good. Teach me your statutes.

Contra mí forjaron mentira los soberbios: mas yo guardaré de todo corazón tus mandamientos.

The proud have forged a lie against me: but I will keep thy precepts with my whole heart.

The proud have smeared a lie upon me. With my whole heart, I will keep your precepts.

—

Engrasóse el corazón de ellos como sebo; mas yo en tu ley me he deleitado.

Their heart is as fat as grease; but I delight in thy law.

Their heart is as callous as the fat, but I delight in your law.

—

Bueno me es haber sido humillado, para que aprenda tus estatutos.

It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.

It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn your statutes.

—

Mejor me es la ley de tu boca, que millares de oro y plata.

The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver.

The law of your mouth is better to me than thousands of pieces of gold and silver. YODH

JOD. Tus manos me hicieron y me formaron: hazme entender, y aprenderé tus mandamientos.

Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments.

Your hands have made me and formed me. Give me understanding, that I may learn your commandments.

Los que te temen, me verán, y se alegrarán; porque en tu palabra he esperado.

They that fear thee will be glad when they see me; because I have hoped in thy word.

Those who fear you will see me and be glad, because I have put my hope in your word.

—

Conozco, oh Jehová, que tus juicios son justicia, y que conforme á tu fidelidad me afligiste.

I know, O LORD, that thy judgments are right, and that thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me.

LORD, I know that your judgments are righteous, that in faithfulness you have afflicted me.

—

Sea ahora tu misericordia para consolarme, conforme á lo que has dicho á tu siervo.

Let, I pray thee, thy merciful kindness be for my comfort, according to thy word unto thy servant.

Please let your loving kindness be for my comfort, according to your word to your servant.

—

Vengan á mí tus misericordias, y viva; porque tu ley es mi deleite.

Let thy tender mercies come unto me, that I may live: for thy law is my delight.

Let your tender mercies come to me, that I may live; for your law is my delight.

—

Sean avergonzados los soberbios, porque sin causa me han calumniado: yo empero, meditaré en tus mandamientos.

Let the proud be ashamed; for they dealt perversely with me without a cause: but I will meditate in thy precepts.

Let the proud be disappointed, for they have overthrown me wrongfully. I will meditate on your precepts.

Tórnense á mí los que te temen y conocen tus testimonios.

Let those that fear thee turn unto me, and those that have known thy testimonies.

Let those who fear you turn to me. They will know your statutes.

Sea mi corazón íntegro en tus estatutos; porque no sea yo avergonzado.

Let my heart be sound in thy statutes; that I be not ashamed.

Let my heart be blameless toward your decrees, that I may not be disappointed. KAPF

CAPH. Desfallece mi alma por tu salud, esperando en tu palabra.

My soul fainteth for thy salvation: but I hope in thy word.

My soul faints for your salvation. I hope in your word.

Desfallecieron mis ojos por tu palabra, diciendo: ¿Cuándo me consolarás?

Mine eyes fail for thy word, saying, When wilt thou comfort me?

My eyes fail for your word. I say, “When will you comfort me?”

—

Porque estoy como el odre al humo; mas no he olvidado tus estatutos.

For I am become like a bottle in the smoke; yet do I not forget thy statutes.

For I have become like a wineskin in the smoke. I don’t forget your statutes.

¿Cuántos son los días de tu siervo? ¿cuándo harás juicio contra los que me persiguen?

How many are the days of thy servant? when wilt thou execute judgment on them that persecute me?

How many are the days of your servant? When will you execute judgment on those who persecute me?

—

Los soberbios me han cavado hoyos; mas no obran según tu ley.

The proud have digged pits for me, which are not after thy law.

The proud have dug pits for me, contrary to your law.

—

Todos tus mandamientos son verdad: sin causa me persiguen; ayúdame.

All thy commandments are faithful: they persecute me wrongfully; help thou me.

All of your commandments are faithful. They persecute me wrongfully. Help me!

—

Casi me han echado por tierra: mas yo no he dejado tus mandamientos.

They had almost consumed me upon earth; but I forsook not thy precepts.

They had almost wiped me from the earth, but I didn’t forsake your precepts.

—

Vivifícame conforme á tu misericordia; y guardaré los testimonios de tu boca.

Quicken me after thy lovingkindness; so shall I keep the testimony of thy mouth.

Preserve my life according to your loving kindness, so I will obey the statutes of your mouth. LAMEDH

LAMED. Para siempre, oh Jehová, permanece tu palabra en los cielos.

For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.

LORD, your word is settled in heaven forever.

Por generación y generación es tu verdad: tú afirmaste la tierra, y persevera.

Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.

Your faithfulness is to all generations. You have established the earth, and it remains.

Por tu ordenación perseveran hasta hoy las cosas criadas; porque todas ellas te sirven.

They continue this day according to thine ordinances: for all are thy servants.

Your laws remain to this day, for all things serve you.

Si tu ley no hubiese sido mis delicias, ya en mi aflicción hubiera perecido.

Unless thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished in mine affliction.

Unless your law had been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction.

Nunca jamás me olvidaré de tus mandamientos; porque con ellos me has vivificado.

I will never forget thy precepts: for with them thou hast quickened me.

I will never forget your precepts, for with them, you have revived me.

Tuyo soy yo, guárdame; porque he buscado tus mandamientos.

I am thine, save me; for I have sought thy precepts.

Los impíos me han aguardado para destruirme: mas yo entenderé en tus testimonios.

The wicked have waited for me to destroy me: but I will consider thy testimonies.

The wicked have waited for me, to destroy me. I will consider your statutes.

A toda perfección he visto fin: ancho sobremanera es tu mandamiento.

I have seen an end of all perfection: but thy commandment is exceeding broad.

I have seen a limit to all perfection, but your commands are boundless. MEM

MEM ¡Cuánto amo yo tu ley! todo el día es ella mi meditación.

O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day.

How I love your law! It is my meditation all day.

Me has hecho más sabio que mis enemigos con tus mandamientos; porque me son eternos.

Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me.

Your commandments make me wiser than my enemies, for your commandments are always with me.

Más que todos mis enseñadores he entendido: porque tus testimonios son mi meditación.

I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.

I have more understanding than all my teachers, for your testimonies are my meditation.

Más que los viejos he entendido, porque he guardado tus mandamientos.

I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts.

I understand more than the aged, because I have kept your precepts.

De todo mal camino contuve mis pies, para guardar tu palabra.

I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep thy word.

I have kept my feet from every evil way, that I might observe your word.

No me aparté de tus juicios; porque tú me enseñaste.

I have not departed from thy judgments: for thou hast taught me.

I have not turned away from your ordinances, for you have taught me.

¡Cuán dulces son á mi paladar tus palabras! más que la miel á mi boca.

How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

How sweet are your promises to my taste, more than honey to my mouth!

De tus mandamientos he adquirido inteligencia: por tanto he aborrecido todo camino de mentira.

Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.

NUN. Lámpara es á mis pies tu palabra, y lumbrera á mi camino.

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Juré y ratifiqué el guardar los juicios de tu justicia.

I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep thy righteous judgments.

I have sworn, and have confirmed it, that I will obey your righteous ordinances.

Afligido estoy en gran manera: oh Jehová, vivifícame conforme á tu palabra.

I am afflicted very much: quicken me, O LORD, according unto thy word.

Ruégote, oh Jehová, te sean agradables los sacrificios voluntarios de mi boca; y enséñame tus juicios.

Accept, I beseech thee, the freewill offerings of my mouth, O LORD, and teach me thy judgments.

Accept, I beg you, the willing offerings of my mouth. LORD, teach me your ordinances.

De continuo está mi alma en mi mano: mas no me he olvidado de tu ley.

My soul is continually in my hand: yet do I not forget thy law.

Pusiéronme lazo los impíos: empero yo no me desvié de tus mandamientos.

The wicked have laid a snare for me: yet I erred not from thy precepts.

Por heredad he tomado tus testimonios para siempre; porque son el gozo de mi corazón.

Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart.

Mi corazón incliné á poner por obra tus estatutos de continuo, hasta el fin.

I have inclined mine heart to perform thy statutes alway, even unto the end.

SAMECH. Los pensamientos vanos aborrezco; mas amo tu ley.

I hate vain thoughts: but thy law do I love.

Apartaos de mí, malignos; pues yo guardaré los mandamientos de mi Dios.

Depart from me, ye evildoers: for I will keep the commandments of my God.

Depart from me, you evildoers, that I may keep the commandments of my God.

Susténtame conforme á tu palabra, y viviré: y no me avergüences de mi esperanza.

Uphold me according unto thy word, that I may live: and let me not be ashamed of my hope.

Sostenme, y seré salvo; y deleitaréme siempre en tus estatutos.

Hold thou me up, and I shall be safe: and I will have respect unto thy statutes continually.

Hollaste á todos los que se desvían de tus estatutos: porque mentira es su engaño.

Thou hast trodden down all them that err from thy statutes: for their deceit is falsehood.

You reject all those who stray from your statutes, for their deceit is in vain.
