Je me traînais, comme s'il s'agissait d'un ami, d'un frère, J'étais courbé dans le deuil, comme pour la mort d'une mère.

Como por mi compañero, como por mi hermano andaba; como el que trae luto por madre, enlutado me humillaba.

I behaved myself as though he had been my friend or brother: I bowed down heavily, as one that mourneth for his mother.
