Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world:

(049-3) ihr Kinder des Volkes und Herrensöhne, alle miteinander, reich und arm!
Así los plebeyos como los nobles, el rico y el pobre juntamente.
Both low and high, rich and poor, together.

(049-4) Mein Mund soll Weisheit reden und das Dichten meines Herzens verständig sein.
Mi boca hablará sabiduría; y el pensamiento de mi corazón inteligencia.
My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.
My mouth will speak words of wisdom. My heart will utter understanding.
(049-5) Ich will einem Spruche lauschen und beim Harfenspiel mein Rätsel lösen.
Acomodaré á ejemplos mi oído: declararé con el arpa mi enigma.
I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.
I will incline my ear to a proverb. I will solve my riddle on the harp.
(049-6) Warum sollte ich mich fürchten zur bösen Zeit, wenn mich die Missetat meiner Verfolger umringt?
¿Por qué he de temer en los días de adversidad, cuando la iniquidad de mis insidiadores me cercare?
Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?
Why should I fear in the days of evil, when iniquity at my heels surrounds me?
(049-7) Sie verlassen sich auf ihr Vermögen und prahlen mit ihrem großen Reichtum.
Los que confían en sus haciendas, y en la muchedumbre de sus riquezas se jactan,
They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;
Those who trust in their wealth, and boast in the multitude of their riches—
(049-8) Und doch kann kein Bruder den andern erlösen; er vermag Gott das Lösegeld nicht zu geben!
Ninguno de ellos podrá en manera alguna redimir al hermano, ni dar á Dios su rescate.
None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:

(049-9) Zu teuer ist die Erlösung ihrer Seelen, so daß er auf ewig davon abstehen muß!
(Porque la redención de su vida es de gran precio, y no se hará jamás;)
(For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)

(049-10) Oder sollte er immerdar leben und die Grube nicht sehen?
Que viva adelante para siempre, y nunca vea la sepultura.
That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption.

(049-11) Doch, er wird sie sehen! Die Weisen müssen sterben, die Toren und Narren kommen miteinander um und müssen ihr Vermögen andern überlassen.
Pues se ve que mueren los sabios, así como el insensato y el necio perecen, y dejan á otros sus riquezas.
For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.

(049-12) Das Grab ist ihr ewiges Haus, ihre Wohnung für und für, wenn sie auch nach ihren Namen Länder benannt haben.
En su interior tienen que sus casas serán eternas, y sus habitaciones para generación y generación: llamaron sus tierras de sus nombres.
Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.

(049-13) Aber der Mensch bleibt nicht lange in seinem Glanz; er gleicht dem Vieh, das umgebracht wird.
Mas el hombre no permanecerá en honra: es semejante á las bestias que perecen.
Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.
But man, despite his riches, doesn’t endure. He is like the animals that perish.
(049-14) Dieser ihr Weg ist ihre Torheit, und doch haben ihre Nachkommen Wohlgefallen an ihren Worten. (Pause.)
Este su camino es su locura: con todo, corren sus descendientes por el dicho de ellos. (Selah.)
This their way is their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah.
This is the destiny of those who are foolish, and of those who approve their sayings. Selah.
(049-15) Herdenweise sinken sie ins Totenreich hinab, der Tod weidet sie, und die Redlichen werden am Morgen über sie herrschen. Ihre Gestalt ist zum Vergehen bestimmt, das Totenreich zu ihrer Wohnung.
Como rebaños serán puestos en la sepultura; la muerte se cebará en ellos; y los rectos se enseñorearán de ellos por la mañana: y se consumirá su bien parecer en el sepulcro de su morada.
Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.
They are appointed as a flock for Sheol. Death shall be their shepherd. The upright shall have dominion over them in the morning. Their beauty shall decay in Sheol, far from their mansion.
(049-16) Aber Gott wird meine Seele aus der Gewalt des Totenreiches erlösen; denn er wird mich annehmen! (Pause.)
Empero Dios redimirá mi vida del poder de la sepultura, cuando me tomará. (Selah.)
But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.

(049-17) Fürchte dich nicht, wenn einer reich wird, wenn die Ehre seines Hauses groß wird;
No temas cuando se enriquece alguno, cuando aumenta la gloria de su casa;
Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;
Don’t be afraid when a man is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;
(049-18) denn bei seinem Tod nimmt er das alles nicht mit, seine Ehre fährt ihm nicht nach!
Porque en muriendo no llevará nada, ni descenderá tras él su gloria.
For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.
for when he dies he will carry nothing away. His glory won’t descend after him.
(049-19) Denn man preist ihn glücklich, solange er lebt (und man lobt dich, wenn es dir gut geht),
Si bien mientras viviere, dirá dichosa á su alma: y tú serás loado cuando bien te tratares.
Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself.

(049-20) bis auch er eingehen wird zum Geschlecht seiner Väter, die in Ewigkeit das Licht nicht sehen.
Entrará á la generación de sus padres: no verán luz para siempre.
He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light.

(049-21) Der Mensch im Glanz, doch ohne Verstand, ist gleich dem Vieh, das umgebracht wird!
El hombre en honra que no entiende, semejante es á las bestias que perecen.
Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.
A man who has riches without understanding, is like the animals that perish.
