Le impuso para que sirviese de memoria a los descendientes de José, al salir de la tierra de Egipto, cuando oyeron una lengua que no entendían.

no habrá en tu distrito dios nuevo; no adoraréis a dioses ajenos.
No habrá en ti dios ajeno, ni te encorvarás á dios extraño.
There shall no strange god be in thee; neither shalt thou worship any strange god.

Porque yo soy el Señor Dios tuyo, que te saqué de la tierra de Egipto; abre bien tu boca, que yo te saciaré plenamente.

Pero mi pueblo no quiso escuchar la voz mía; los hijos de Israel no quisieron obedecerme.

But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none of me.

Y así los abandoné, dejándolos ir en pos de los deseos de su corazón, y seguir sus devaneos.

Como quien no hace nada, hubiera yo seguramente humillado a sus enemigos, y descargado mi mano sobre sus perseguidores.
En una nada habría yo derribado sus enemigos, y vuelto mi mano sobre sus adversarios.

Pero, hechos enemigos del Señor, le faltaron a la promesa; y el tiempo de ellos, o su suplicio, será eterno.
