1Después de esto vi que desde el cielo descendía otro ángel que, cubierto de gran autoridad, iluminó la tierra con su resplandor,
2y con voz potente gritó: «¡Ya cayó, ya cayó la gran Babilonia! Babilonia se ha convertido en guarida de demonios, en antro de espíritus inmundos y en nido de toda ave impura y odiosa,
3porque las naciones se han embriagado con el vino excitante de su adulterio, los gobernantes de la tierra se han entregado con ella a los placeres, y los comerciantes de la tierra se han enriquecido con la abundancia de lujos que ella despilfarraba».
4Entonces oí otra voz del cielo que decía: «Sal de esa ciudad, pueblo mío; no participes en su pecado para que no se te castigue con ella,
5porque sus pecados se han ido amontonando hasta el cielo y Dios va a juzgarla por su perversidad.
6Hazle a ella lo que ella te hizo a ti, e imponle doble castigo a sus maldades. En la copa en que preparó bebida para otros, prepárale una bebida dos veces más fuerte.
7Ella ha vivido en derroches y en placeres sin límites; dale ahora dolores y penas sin límites. Ella se jacta diciendo: “En este trono soy reina. No soy ninguna viuda; nunca sufriré”.
8Por tanto, ¡en un solo día caerán sobre ella peste, llanto y hambre, y al final la consumirá el fuego! ¡Poderoso es el Señor Dios que la juzga!».
9Los gobernantes del mundo que tomaron parte en sus inmoralidades y se deleitaron con sus lujos, llorarán y lamentarán ante sus restos humeantes.
10Desde la distancia, la contemplarán temblorosos de miedo al ver semejante castigo, y gritarán: «¡Pobre, pobre Babilonia, la gran ciudad poderosa! ¡En un instante te llegó el juicio!».
11Los mercaderes de la tierra sollozarán y se lamentarán, porque ya no habrá nadie que les compre.
12Ella era una gran cliente que compraba oro, plata, piedras preciosas y perlas; lino fino, púrpura y seda escarlata; maderas olorosas, objetos de marfil, maderas preciosas labradas, cobre, hierro y mármol;
13canela, especias aromáticas, incienso, mirra, y perfumes; vino, aceite, harina fina y trigo; vacas, ovejas, caballos y carrozas; y hasta seres humanos vendidos como esclavos.
14«Ya no tienes los lujos que tanto te gustaban —le gritarán—. Ya no tienes el lujo y el esplendor en que te deleitabas. Jamás los volverás a tener».
15Los mercaderes que se habían enriquecido comerciando con aquella ciudad se pararán de lejos, aterrorizados de ver semejante castigo. Llorarán y dirán entre sollozos:
16«¡Pobre, pobre de la gran ciudad, vestida de linos finos, púrpura y escarlata, y adornada con oro, piedras preciosas y perlas!
17¡Cuánta riqueza se perdió en un instante!». Los navíos y los capitanes de las flotas mercantes, sus tripulaciones y sus pasajeros y todos los que viven del mar, se pararán lejos,
18y al contemplar el humo del incendio, dirán: «¿Dónde vamos a encontrar otra ciudad como esta?».
19Y echándose tierra en la cabeza en señal de duelo, dirán ahogados por el llanto: «¡Ay, pobre de la gran ciudad que nos enriqueció con su gran riqueza! ¡En sólo una hora desapareció…!
20Pero tú, cielo, regocíjate por lo que ha sucedido. Y regocíjense también los santos, los profetas y los apóstoles, porque al castigar a la gran ciudad, Dios les está haciendo justicia a ustedes».
21Entonces un ángel poderoso tomó una peña con forma de piedra de molino y la arrojó en el mar diciendo: «Babilonia, la gran ciudad, será arrojada como yo arrojé esta piedra, y desaparecerá para siempre.
22Nunca se volverá a escuchar en ella la música de los cantantes, el vibrar del arpa, la flauta y la trompeta. Jamás volverá a verse en ella industria de ningún tipo, y cesará la molienda de granos.
23Negras serán sus noches, sin luz de lámparas en las ventanas. Jamás volverán a proclamarse alegrías nupciales, porque tus mercaderes eran los más prósperos de la tierra y engañaste a las naciones con tus hechicerías,
24porque por ti se derramó sangre de profetas y santos y de todos los que han sido asesinados en toda la tierra».

1Y DESPUÉS de estas cosas vi otro ángel descender del cielo teniendo grande potencia; y la tierra fué alumbrada de su gloria.
2Y clamó con fortaleza en alta voz, diciendo: Caída es, caída es la grande Babilonia, y es hecha habitación de demonios, y guarida de todo espíritu inmundo, y albergue de todas aves sucias y aborrecibles.
3Porque todas las gentes han bebido del vino del furor de su fornicación; y los reyes de la tierra han fornicado con ella, y los mercaderes de la tierra se han enriquecido de la potencia de sus deleites.
4Y oí otra voz del cielo, que decía: Salid de ella, pueblo mío, porque no seáis participantes de sus pecados, y que no recibáis de sus plagas;
5Porque sus pecados han llegado hasta el cielo, y Dios se ha acordado de sus maldades.
6Tornadle á dar como ella os ha dado, y pagadle al doble según sus obras; en el cáliz que ella os dió á beber, dadle á beber doblado.
7Cuanto ella se ha glorificado, y ha estado en deleites, tanto dadle de tormento y llanto; porque dice en su corazón: Yo estoy sentada reina, y no soy viuda, y no veré llanto.
8Por lo cual en un día vendrán sus plagas, muerte, llanto y hambre, y será quemada con fuego; porque el Señor Dios es fuerte, que la juzgará.
9Y llorarán y se lamentarán sobre ella los reyes de la tierra, los cuales han fornicado con ella y han vivido en deleites, cuando ellos vieren el humo de su incendio,
10Estando lejos por el temor de su tormento, diciendo: ¡Ay, ay, de aquella gran ciudad de Babilonia, aquella fuerte ciudad; porque en una hora vino tu juicio!
11Y los mercaderes de la tierra lloran y se lamentan sobre ella, porque ninguno compra más sus mercaderías:
12Mercadería de oro, y de plata, y de piedras preciosas, y de margaritas, y de lino fino, y de escarlata, y de seda, y de grana, y de toda madera olorosa, y de todo vaso de marfil, y de todo vaso de madera preciosa, y de cobre, y de hierro, y de mármol;
13Y canela, y olores, y ungüentos, y de incienso, y de vino, y de aceite; y flor de harina y trigo, y de bestias, y de ovejas; y de caballos, y de carros, y de siervos, y de almas de hombres.
14Y los frutos del deseo de tu alma se apartaron de ti; y todas las cosas gruesas y excelentes te han faltado, y nunca más las hallarás.
15Los mercaderes de estas cosas, que se han enriquecido, se pondrán lejos de ella por el temor de su tormento, llorando y lamentando,
16Y diciendo: ¡Ay, ay, aquella gran ciudad, que estaba vestida de lino fino, y de escarlata, y de grana, y estaba dorada con oro, y adornada de piedras preciosas y de perlas!
17Porque en una hora han sido desoladas tantas riquezas. Y todo patrón, y todos los que viajan en naves, y marineros, y todos los que trabajan en el mar, se estuvieron lejos;
18Y viendo el humo de su incendio, dieron voces, diciendo: ¿Qué ciudad era semejante á esta gran ciudad?
19Y echaron polvo sobre sus cabezas; y dieron voces, llorando y lamentando, diciendo: ¡Ay, ay, de aquella gran ciudad, en la cual todos los que tenían navíos en la mar se habían enriquecido de sus riquezas; que en una hora ha sido desolada!
20Alégrate sobre ella, cielo, y vosotros, santos, apóstoles, y profetas; porque Dios ha vengado vuestra causa en ella.
21Y un ángel fuerte tomó una piedra como una grande piedra de molino, y la echó en la mar, diciendo: Con tanto ímpetu será derribada Babilonia, aquella grande ciudad, y nunca jamás será hallada.
22Y voz de tañedores de arpas, y de músicos, y de tañedores de flautas y de trompetas, no será más oída en ti; y todo artífice de cualquier oficio, no será más hallado en ti; y el sonido de muela no será más en ti oído:
23Y luz de antorcha no alumbrará más en ti; y voz de esposo ni de esposa no será más en ti oída; porque tus mercaderes eran los magnates de la tierra; porque en tus hechicerías todas las gentes han errado.
24Y en ella fué hallada la sangre de los profetas y de los santos, y de todos los que han sido muertos en la tierra.

1And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.
2And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
3For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.
4And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
5For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.
6Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.
7How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.
8Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.
9And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning,
10Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.
11And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more:
12The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble,
13And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men.
14And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all.
15The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,
16And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!
17For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,
18And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city!
19And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.
20Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.
21And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.
22And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee;
23And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.
24And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.

1After these things, I saw another angel coming down out of the sky, having great authority. The earth was illuminated with his glory.
2He cried with a mighty voice, saying, “Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, and she has become a habitation of demons, a prison of every unclean spirit, and a prison of every unclean and hated bird!
3For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her sexual immorality, the kings of the earth committed sexual immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth grew rich from the abundance of her luxury.”
4I heard another voice from heaven, saying, “Come out of her, my people, that you have no participation in her sins, and that you don’t receive of her plagues,
5for her sins have reached to the sky, and God has remembered her iniquities.
6Return to her just as she returned, and repay her double as she did, and according to her works. In the cup which she mixed, mix to her double.
7However much she glorified herself and grew wanton, so much give her of torment and mourning. For she says in her heart, ‘I sit a queen, and am no widow, and will in no way see mourning.’
8Therefore in one day her plagues will come: death, mourning, and famine; and she will be utterly burned with fire, for the Lord God who has judged her is strong.
9The kings of the earth who committed sexual immorality and lived wantonly with her will weep and wail over her, when they look at the smoke of her burning,
10standing far away for the fear of her torment, saying, ‘Woe, woe, the great city, Babylon, the strong city! For your judgment has come in one hour.’
11The merchants of the earth weep and mourn over her, for no one buys their merchandise any more:
12merchandise of gold, silver, precious stones, pearls, fine linen, purple, silk, scarlet, all expensive wood, every vessel of ivory, every vessel made of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble;
13and cinnamon, incense, perfume, frankincense, wine, olive oil, fine flour, wheat, cattle, sheep, horses, chariots, and people’s bodies and souls.
14The fruits which your soul lusted after have been lost to you. All things that were dainty and sumptuous have perished from you, and you will find them no more at all.
15The merchants of these things, who were made rich by her, will stand far away for the fear of her torment, weeping and mourning,
16saying, ‘Woe, woe, the great city, she who was dressed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls!
17For in an hour such great riches are made desolate.’ Every ship master, and everyone who sails anywhere, and mariners, and as many as gain their living by sea, stood far away,
18and cried out as they looked at the smoke of her burning, saying, ‘What is like the great city?’
19They cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and mourning, saying, ‘Woe, woe, the great city, in which all who had their ships in the sea were made rich by reason of her great wealth!’ For she is made desolate in one hour.
20“Rejoice over her, O heaven, you saints, apostles, and prophets, for God has judged your judgment on her.”
21A mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and cast it into the sea, saying, “Thus with violence will Babylon, the great city, be thrown down, and will be found no more at all.
22The voice of harpists, minstrels, flute players, and trumpeters will be heard no more at all in you. No craftsman of whatever craft will be found any more at all in you. The sound of a mill will be heard no more at all in you.
23The light of a lamp will shine no more at all in you. The voice of the bridegroom and of the bride will be heard no more at all in you, for your merchants were the princes of the earth; for with your sorcery all the nations were deceived.
24In her was found the blood of prophets and of saints, and of all who have been slain on the earth.”
