¿Qué diremos, pues, que ha encontrado Abraham, nuestro antepasado, según la carne?
¿QUÉ, pues, diremos que halló Abraham nuestro padre según la carne?
What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?
What then will we say that Abraham, our forefather, has found according to the flesh?
Porque si Abraham fue justificado por las obras, tiene de qué jactarse, pero no ante Dios.
Que si Abraham fué justificado por la obras, tiene de qué gloriarse; mas no para con Dios.
For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.
For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not toward God.
Porque ¿qué dice la Escritura? “Abraham creyó a Dios, y le fue contado por justicia”.
Porque ¿qué dice la Escritura? Y creyó Abraham á Dios, y le fué atribuído á justicia.
For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.”
Ahora bien, al que trabaja, la recompensa no se le cuenta como gracia, sino como algo debido.
Empero al que obra, no se le cuenta el salario por merced, sino por deuda.
Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
Now to him who works, the reward is not counted as grace, but as something owed.
Pero al que no trabaja, sino que cree en el que justifica al impío, su fe le es contada por justicia.
Mas al que no obra, pero cree en aquél que justifica al impío, la fe le es contada por justicia.
But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
But to him who doesn’t work, but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness.
Así como David también pronuncia la bendición sobre el hombre a quien Dios le cuenta la justicia aparte de las obras:
Como también David dice ser bienaventurado el hombre al cual Dios atribuye justicia sin obras,
Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,
Even as David also pronounces blessing on the man to whom God counts righteousness apart from works:
“Bienaventurados aquellos cuyas iniquidades son perdonadas, cuyos pecados están cubiertos.
Diciendo: Bienaventurados aquellos cuyas iniquidades son perdonadas, y cuyos pecados son cubiertos.
Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.
“Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, whose sins are covered.
Dichoso el hombre al que el Señor no acusa de pecado”.
Bienaventurado el varón al cual el Señor no imputó pecado.
Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.
Blessed is the man whom the Lord will by no means charge with sin.”
Entonces, ¿se pronuncia esta bendición sólo sobre los circuncisos, o también sobre los incircuncisos? Porque decimos que la fe le fue contada a Abraham por justicia.
¿Es pues esta bienaventuranza solamente en la circuncisión, ó también en la incircuncisión? porque decimos que á Abraham fué contada la fe por justicia.
Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.
Is this blessing then pronounced only on the circumcised, or on the uncircumcised also? For we say that faith was accounted to Abraham for righteousness.
¿Cómo, pues, le fue contada? ¿En la circuncisión o en la incircuncisión? No en la circuncisión, sino en la incircuncisión.
¿Cómo pues le fué contada? ¿en la circuncisión, ó en la incircuncisión? No en la circuncisión, sino en la incircuncisión.
How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.
How then was it counted? When he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.
Recibió la señal de la circuncisión, sello de la justicia de la fe que tenía mientras estaba en la incircuncisión, para ser padre de todos los que creen, aunque estén en la incircuncisión, a fin de que también les sea contada la justicia.
Y recibió la circuncisión por señal, por sello de la justicia de la fe que tuvo en la incircuncisión: para que fuese padre de todos los creyentes no circuncidados, para que también á ellos les sea contado por justicia;
And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:
He received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while he was in uncircumcision, that he might be the father of all those who believe, though they might be in uncircumcision, that righteousness might also be accounted to them.
Él es el padre de la circuncisión para aquellos que no sólo son de la circuncisión, sino que también caminan en los pasos de esa fe de nuestro padre Abraham, que tuvo en la incircuncisión.
Y padre de la circuncisión, no solamente á los que son de la circuncisión, mas también á los que siguen las pisadas de la fe que fué en nuestro padre Abraham antes de ser circuncidado.
And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.
He is the father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had in uncircumcision.
Porque la promesa hecha a Abraham y a su descendencia de que sería heredero del mundo no fue por la ley, sino por la justicia de la fe.
Porque no por la ley fué dada la promesa á Abraham ó á su simiente, que sería heredero del mundo, sino por la justicia de la fe.
For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.
For the promise to Abraham and to his offspring that he would be heir of the world wasn’t through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.
Porque si los que son de la ley son herederos, la fe queda anulada, y la promesa queda sin efecto.
Porque si los que son de la ley son los herederos, vana es la fe, y anulada es la promesa.
For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect:
For if those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void, and the promise is made of no effect.
Porque la ley produce ira; pues donde no hay ley, tampoco hay desobediencia.
Porque la ley obra ira; porque donde no hay ley, tampoco hay transgresión.
Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.
For the law produces wrath; for where there is no law, neither is there disobedience.
Por eso es de fe, para que sea según la gracia, a fin de que la promesa sea segura para toda la descendencia, no sólo para la que es de la ley, sino también para la que es de la fe de Abraham, que es el padre de todos nosotros.
Por tanto es por la fe, para que sea por gracia; para que la promesa sea firme á toda simiente, no solamente al que es de la ley, mas también al que es de la fe de Abraham, el cual es padre de todos nosotros,
Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,
For this cause it is of faith, that it may be according to grace, to the end that the promise may be sure to all the offspring, not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all.
Como está escrito: “Te he hecho padre de muchas naciones”. Esto es en presencia de aquel a quien creyó: Dios, que da vida a los muertos, y llama a las cosas que no son, como si fueran.
(Como está escrito: Que por padre de muchas gentes te he puesto) delante de Dios, al cual creyó; el cual da vida á los muertos, y llama las cosas que no son, como las que son.
(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
As it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations.” This is in the presence of him whom he believed: God, who gives life to the dead, and calls the things that are not, as though they were.
En contra de la esperanza, Abraham creyó con esperanza, a fin de llegar a ser padre de muchas naciones, según lo que se había dicho: “Así será tu descendencia.”
El creyó en esperanza contra esperanza, para venir á ser padre de muchas gentes, conforme á lo que le había sido dicho: Así será tu simiente.
Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations; according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.
Against hope, Abraham in hope believed, to the end that he might become a father of many nations, according to that which had been spoken, “So will your offspring be.”
Sin debilitarse en la fe, no tuvo en cuenta su propio cuerpo, ya desgastado, (siendo él de unos cien años de edad), y la esterilidad del vientre de Sara.
Y no se enflaqueció en la fe, ni consideró su cuerpo ya muerto (siendo ya de casi cien años), ni la matriz muerta de Sara;
And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb:
Without being weakened in faith, he didn’t consider his own body, already having been worn out, (he being about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb.
Sin embargo, mirando la promesa de Dios, no vaciló por la incredulidad, sino que se fortaleció por la fe, dando gloria a Dios,
Tampoco en la promesa de Dios dudó con desconfianza: antes fué esforzado en fe, dando gloria á Dios,
He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
Yet, looking to the promise of God, he didn’t waver through unbelief, but grew strong through faith, giving glory to God,
y estando plenamente seguro de que lo que había prometido, también podía cumplirlo.
Plenamente convencido de que todo lo que había prometido, era también poderoso para hacerlo.
And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
and being fully assured that what he had promised, he was also able to perform.
Por eso también se le “acreditó por justicia”.
Por lo cual también le fué atribuído á justicia.
And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.
Therefore it also was “credited to him for righteousness.”
Ahora bien, no está escrito que se le haya atribuido sólo a él,
Y no solamente por él fué escrito que le haya sido imputado;
Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;
Now it was not written that it was accounted to him for his sake alone,
sino también a nosotros, a quienes se nos atribuirá, que creemos en el que resucitó a Jesús, nuestro Señor, de entre los muertos,
Sino también por nosotros, á quienes será imputado, esto es, á los que creemos en el que levantó de los muertos á Jesús Señor nuestro,
But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;
but for our sake also, to whom it will be accounted, who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead,
que fue entregado por nuestros delitos y resucitó para nuestra justificación.
El cual fué entregado por nuestros delitos, y resucitado para nuestra justificación.
Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.
who was delivered up for our trespasses, and was raised for our justification.
