Que dirons-nous donc qu’Abraham notre père a trouvé selon la chair ?

¿QUÉ, pues, diremos que halló Abraham nuestro padre según la carne?

What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?

What then will we say that Abraham, our forefather, has found according to the flesh?

Certes, si Abraham a été justifié par les oeuvres, il a de quoi se glorifier, mais non pas envers Dieu.

Que si Abraham fué justificado por la obras, tiene de qué gloriarse; mas no para con Dios.

For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.

For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not toward God.

Car que dit l’Ecriture ? qu’Abraham a cru à Dieu, et que cela lui a été imputé à justice.

Porque ¿qué dice la Escritura? Y creyó Abraham á Dios, y le fué atribuído á justicia.

For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.”

Or à celui qui fait les oeuvres, le salaire ne lui est pas imputé comme une grâce, mais comme une chose due.

Empero al que obra, no se le cuenta el salario por merced, sino por deuda.

Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.

Now to him who works, the reward is not counted as grace, but as something owed.

Mais à celui qui ne fait pas les oeuvres, mais qui croit en celui qui justifie le méchant, sa foi lui est imputée à justice.

Mas al que no obra, pero cree en aquél que justifica al impío, la fe le es contada por justicia.

But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

But to him who doesn’t work, but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness.

Comme aussi David exprime la béatitude de l’homme à qui Dieu impute la justice sans les oeuvres, en disant :

Como también David dice ser bienaventurado el hombre al cual Dios atribuye justicia sin obras,

Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,

Even as David also pronounces blessing on the man to whom God counts righteousness apart from works:

Bienheureux sont ceux à qui les iniquités sont pardonnées, et dont les péchés sont couverts.

Diciendo: Bienaventurados aquellos cuyas iniquidades son perdonadas, y cuyos pecados son cubiertos.

Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.

“Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, whose sins are covered.

Bienheureux est l’homme à qui le Seigneur n’aura point imputé son péché.

Bienaventurado el varón al cual el Señor no imputó pecado.

Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

Blessed is the man whom the Lord will by no means charge with sin.”

Cette déclaration donc de la béatitude, est-elle seulement pour la Circoncision, ou aussi pour le Prépuce ? car nous disons que la foi a été imputée à Abraham à justice.

¿Es pues esta bienaventuranza solamente en la circuncisión, ó también en la incircuncisión? porque decimos que á Abraham fué contada la fe por justicia.

Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.

Is this blessing then pronounced only on the circumcised, or on the uncircumcised also? For we say that faith was accounted to Abraham for righteousness.

Comment donc lui a-t-elle été imputée ? a-ce été lorsqu’il était déjà circoncis, ou lorsqu’il était encore dans le prépuce ? ce n’a point été dans la Circoncision, mais dans le prépuce.

¿Cómo pues le fué contada? ¿en la circuncisión, ó en la incircuncisión? No en la circuncisión, sino en la incircuncisión.

How was it then reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.

How then was it counted? When he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.

Puis il reçut le signe de la Circoncision pour un sceau de la justice de la foi, laquelle il avait reçue étant dans le prépuce, afin qu’il fût le père de tous ceux qui croient étant dans le prépuce, et que la justice leur fût aussi imputée.

Y recibió la circuncisión por señal, por sello de la justicia de la fe que tuvo en la incircuncisión: para que fuese padre de todos los creyentes no circuncidados, para que también á ellos les sea contado por justicia;

And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also:

He received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while he was in uncircumcision, that he might be the father of all those who believe, though they might be in uncircumcision, that righteousness might also be accounted to them.

Et qu’il fût aussi le père de la Circoncision, c’est-à-dire, de ceux qui ne sont pas seulement de la Circoncision, mais qui aussi suivent les traces de la foi de notre père Abraham, laquelle il a eue dans le prépuce.

Y padre de la circuncisión, no solamente á los que son de la circuncisión, mas también á los que siguen las pisadas de la fe que fué en nuestro padre Abraham antes de ser circuncidado.

And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.

He is the father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had in uncircumcision.

Car la promesse d’être héritier du monde, n’a pas été faite à Abraham, ou à sa semence, par la Loi, mais par la justice de la foi.

Porque no por la ley fué dada la promesa á Abraham ó á su simiente, que sería heredero del mundo, sino por la justicia de la fe.

For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

For the promise to Abraham and to his offspring that he would be heir of the world wasn’t through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

Or si ceux qui sont de la Loi sont héritiers, la foi est anéantie, et la promesse est abolie :

Porque si los que son de la ley son los herederos, vana es la fe, y anulada es la promesa.

For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect:

For if those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void, and the promise is made of no effect.

Vu que la Loi produit la colère ; car où il n’y a point de Loi, il n’y a point aussi de transgression.

Porque la ley obra ira; porque donde no hay ley, tampoco hay transgresión.

Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression.

For the law produces wrath; for where there is no law, neither is there disobedience.

C’est donc par la foi, afin que ce soit par la grâce, et afin que la promesse soit assurée à toute la semence ; non seulement à celle qui est de la Loi, mais aussi à celle qui est de la foi d’Abraham, qui est le père de nous tous.

Por tanto es por la fe, para que sea por gracia; para que la promesa sea firme á toda simiente, no solamente al que es de la ley, mas también al que es de la fe de Abraham, el cual es padre de todos nosotros,

Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,

For this cause it is of faith, that it may be according to grace, to the end that the promise may be sure to all the offspring, not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all.

Selon qu’il est écrit : je t’ai établi père de plusieurs nations, devant Dieu, en qui il a cru ; lequel fait vivre les morts, et qui appelle les choses qui ne sont point, comme si elles étaient.

(Como está escrito: Que por padre de muchas gentes te he puesto) delante de Dios, al cual creyó; el cual da vida á los muertos, y llama las cosas que no son, como las que son.

(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.

As it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations.” This is in the presence of him whom he believed: God, who gives life to the dead, and calls the things that are not, as though they were.

Et Abraham ayant espéré contre espérance, crut qu’il deviendrait le père de plusieurs nations, selon ce qui lui avait été dit : ainsi sera ta postérité.

El creyó en esperanza contra esperanza, para venir á ser padre de muchas gentes, conforme á lo que le había sido dicho: Así será tu simiente.

Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations; according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.

Against hope, Abraham in hope believed, to the end that he might become a father of many nations, according to that which had been spoken, “So will your offspring be.”

Et n’étant pas faible en la foi, il n’eut point égard à son corps qui était déjà amorti ; vu qu’il avait environ cent ans, ni à l’âge de Sara qui était hors d’état d’avoir des enfants.

Y no se enflaqueció en la fe, ni consideró su cuerpo ya muerto (siendo ya de casi cien años), ni la matriz muerta de Sara;

And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb:

Without being weakened in faith, he didn’t consider his own body, already having been worn out, (he being about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb.

Et il ne forma point de doute sur la promesse de Dieu par défiance ; mais il fut fortifié par la foi, donnant gloire à Dieu ;

Tampoco en la promesa de Dios dudó con desconfianza: antes fué esforzado en fe, dando gloria á Dios,

He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;

Yet, looking to the promise of God, he didn’t waver through unbelief, but grew strong through faith, giving glory to God,

Etant pleinement persuadé que celui qui lui avait fait la promesse, était puissant aussi pour l’accomplir.

Plenamente convencido de que todo lo que había prometido, era también poderoso para hacerlo.

And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.

and being fully assured that what he had promised, he was also able to perform.

C’est pourquoi cela lui a été imputé à justice.

Por lo cual también le fué atribuído á justicia.

And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.

Therefore it also was “credited to him for righteousness.”

Or que cela lui ait été imputé à justice, il n’a point été écrit seulement pour lui,

Y no solamente por él fué escrito que le haya sido imputado;

Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;

Now it was not written that it was accounted to him for his sake alone,

Mais aussi pour nous, à qui aussi il sera imputé, à nous, dis-je, qui croyons en celui qui a ressuscité des morts Jésus notre Seigneur ;

Sino también por nosotros, á quienes será imputado, esto es, á los que creemos en el que levantó de los muertos á Jesús Señor nuestro,

But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;

but for our sake also, to whom it will be accounted, who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead,

Lequel a été livré pour nos offenses, et qui est ressuscité pour notre justification.

El cual fué entregado por nuestros delitos, y resucitado para nuestra justificación.

Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

who was delivered up for our trespasses, and was raised for our justification.
