1Was sollen wir nun sagen? Sollten wir in der Sünde verharren, auf daß die Gnade überströme?
2Das sei ferne! Wir, die wir der Sünde gestorben sind, wie sollen wir noch in derselben leben?
3Oder wisset ihr nicht, daß wir, so viele auf Christum Jesum getauft worden, auf seinen Tod getauft worden sind?
4So sind wir nun mit ihm begraben worden durch die Taufe auf den Tod, auf daß, gleichwie Christus aus den Toten auferweckt worden ist durch die Herrlichkeit des Vaters, also auch wir in Neuheit des Lebens wandeln.
5Denn wenn wir mit ihm einsgemacht worden sind in der Gleichheit seines Todes, so werden wir es auch in der seiner Auferstehung sein,
6indem wir dieses wissen, daß unser alter Mensch mitgekreuzigt worden ist, auf daß der Leib der Sünde abgetan sei, daß wir der Sünde nicht mehr dienen.
7Denn wer gestorben ist, ist freigesprochen von der Sünde.
8Wenn wir aber mit Christo gestorben sind, so glauben wir, daß wir auch mit ihm leben werden, da wir wissen,
9daß Christus, aus den Toten auferweckt, nicht mehr stirbt; der Tod herrscht nicht mehr über ihn.
10Denn was er gestorben ist, ist er ein für allemal der Sünde gestorben; was er aber lebt, lebt er Gott.
11Also auch ihr, haltet euch der Sünde für tot, Gott aber lebend in Christo Jesu.
12So herrsche denn nicht die Sünde in eurem sterblichen Leibe, um seinen Lüsten zu gehorchen;
13stellet auch nicht eure Glieder der Sünde dar zu Werkzeugen der Ungerechtigkeit, sondern stellet euch selbst Gott dar als Lebende aus den Toten, und eure Glieder Gott zu Werkzeugen der Gerechtigkeit.
14Denn die Sünde wird nicht über euch herrschen, denn ihr seid nicht unter Gesetz, sondern unter Gnade.
15Was nun, sollten wir sündigen, weil wir nicht unter Gesetz, sondern unter Gnade sind? Das sei ferne!
16Wisset ihr nicht, daß, wem ihr euch darstellet als Sklaven zum Gehorsam, ihr dessen Sklaven seid, dem ihr gehorchet? Entweder der Sünde zum Tode, oder des Gehorsams zur Gerechtigkeit?
17Gott aber sei Dank, daß ihr Sklaven der Sünde waret, aber von Herzen gehorsam geworden seid dem Bilde der Lehre, welchem ihr übergeben worden seid!
18Freigemacht aber von der Sünde, seid ihr Sklaven der Gerechtigkeit geworden.
19Ich rede menschlich, wegen der Schwachheit eures Fleisches. Denn gleichwie ihr eure Glieder dargestellt habt zur Sklaverei der Unreinigkeit und der Gesetzlosigkeit zur Gesetzlosigkeit, also stellet jetzt eure Glieder dar zur Sklaverei der Gerechtigkeit zur Heiligkeit.
20Denn als ihr Sklaven der Sünde waret, da waret ihr Freie von der Gerechtigkeit.
21Welche Frucht hattet ihr denn damals von den Dingen, deren ihr euch jetzt schämet? Denn das Ende derselben ist der Tod.
22Jetzt aber, von der Sünde freigemacht und Gottes Sklaven geworden, habt ihr eure Frucht zur Heiligkeit, als das Ende aber ewiges Leben.
23Denn der Lohn der Sünde ist der Tod, die Gnadengabe Gottes aber ewiges Leben in Christo Jesu, unserem Herrn.

1¿PUES qué diremos? Perseveraremos en pecado para que la gracia crezca?
2En ninguna manera. Porque los que somos muertos al pecado, ¿cómo viviremos aún en él?
3¿O no sabéis que todos los que somos bautizados en Cristo Jesús, somos bautizados en su muerte?
4Porque somos sepultados juntamente con él á muerte por el bautismo; para que como Cristo resucitó de los muertos por la gloria del Padre, así también nosotros andemos en novedad de vida.
5Porque si fuimos plantados juntamente en él á la semejanza de su muerte, así también lo seremos á la de su resurrección:
6Sabiendo esto, que nuestro viejo hombre juntamente fué crucificado con él, para que el cuerpo del pecado sea deshecho, á fin de que no sirvamos más al pecado.
7Porque el que es muerto, justificado es del pecado.
8Y si morimos con Cristo, creemos que también viviremos con él;
9Sabiendo que Cristo, habiendo resucitado de entre los muertos, ya no muere: la muerte no se enseñoreará más de él.
10Porque el haber muerto, al pecado murió una vez; mas el vivir, á Dios vive.
11Así también vosotros, pensad que de cierto estáis muertos al pecado, mas vivos á Dios en Cristo Jesús Señor nuestro.
12No reine, pues, el pecado en vuestro cuerpo mortal, para que le obedezcáis en sus concupiscencias;
13Ni tampoco presentéis vuestros miembros al pecado por instrumentos de iniquidad; antes presentaos á Dios como vivos de los muertos, y vuestros miembros á Dios por instrumentos de justicia.
14Porque el pecado no se enseñoreará de vosotros; pues no estáis bajo la ley, sino bajo la gracia.
15¿Pues qué? ¿Pecaremos, porque no estamos bajo de la ley, sino bajo de la gracia? En ninguna manera.
16¿No sabéis que á quien os prestáis vosotros mismos por siervos para obedecerle, sois siervos de aquel á quien obedecéis, ó del pecado para muerte, ó de la obediencia para justicia?
17Empero gracias á Dios, que aunque fuisteis siervos del pecado, habéis obedecido de corazón á aquella forma de doctrina á la cual sois entregados;
18Y libertados del pecado, sois hechos siervos de la justicia.
19Humana cosa digo, por la flaqueza de vuestra carne: que como para iniquidad presentasteis vuestros miembros á servir á la inmundicia y á la iniquidad, así ahora para santidad presentéis vuestros miembros á servir á la justicia.
20Porque cuando fuisteis siervos del pecado, erais libres acerca de la justicia.
21¿Qué fruto, pues, teníais de aquellas cosas de las cuales ahora os avergonzáis? porque el fin de ellas es muerte.
22Mas ahora, librados del pecado, y hechos siervos á Dios, tenéis por vuestro fruto la santificación, y por fin la vida eterna.
23Porque la paga del pecado es muerte: mas la dádiva de Dios es vida eterna en Cristo Jesús Señor nuestro.

1What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
3Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
6Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7For he that is dead is freed from sin.
8Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
9Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
10For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
11Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
12Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
13Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
14For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
15What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
16Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
17But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
18Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
19I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
20For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
21What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
22But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
23For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

17But thanks be to God that, whereas you were bondservants of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were delivered.
18Being made free from sin, you became bondservants of righteousness.
19I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh; for as you presented your members as servants to uncleanness and to wickedness upon wickedness, even so now present your members as servants to righteousness for sanctification.
20For when you were servants of sin, you were free from righteousness.
21What fruit then did you have at that time in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.
22But now, being made free from sin and having become servants of God, you have your fruit of sanctification and the result of eternal life.
23For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
