Meus irmãos, será que vocês que conhecem a lei ainda não compreendem que, quando uma pessoa morre, a lei não tem mais nenhum poder sobre ela?
¿IGNORÁIS, hermanos, (porque hablo con los que saben la ley) que la ley se enseñorea del hombre entre tanto que vive?
Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?
Or don’t you know, brothers (for I speak to men who know the law), that the law has dominion over a man for as long as he lives?
Deixem-me ilustrar: Quando uma mulher se casa, fica presa pela lei ao marido enquanto ele viver. Se, contudo, ele morrer, ela não estará mais ligada a ele. As leis do casamento não mais se aplicam a ela.
Porque la mujer que está sujeta á marido, mientras el marido vive está obligada á la ley; mas muerto el marido, libre es de la ley del marido.
For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.
For the woman that has a husband is bound by law to the husband while he lives, but if the husband dies, she is discharged from the law of the husband.
Ela poderá, então, casar-se com outra pessoa se assim o quiser. Isso estaria errado enquanto ele estivesse vivo, porém está perfeitamente certo depois da morte do marido.
Así que, viviendo el marido, se llamará adúltera si fuere de otro varón; mas si su marido muriere, es libre de la ley; de tal manera que no será adúltera si fuere de otro marido.
So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.
So then if, while the husband lives, she is joined to another man, she would be called an adulteress. But if the husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is no adulteress, though she is joined to another man.
Assim, meus irmãos, vocês também morreram para a Lei; e isso aconteceu por meio do corpo de Cristo, para pertencerem a outro, isto é, àquele que ressuscitou dos mortos, para que vocês também possam produzir bom fruto, isto é, boas obras para Deus.
Así también vosotros, hermanos míos, estáis muertos á la ley por el cuerpo de Cristo, para que seáis de otro, á saber, del que resucitó de los muertos, á fin de que fructifiquemos á Dios.
Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.
Therefore, my brothers, you also were made dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you would be joined to another, to him who was raised from the dead, that we might produce fruit to God.
Quando a velha natureza ainda os dominava, havia desejos pecaminosos agindo dentro de vocês, dando-lhes vontade de fazer tudo aquilo que Deus não quer, produzindo obras pecaminosas, o fruto para a morte.
Porque mientras estábamos en la carne, los afectos de los pecados que eran por la ley, obraban en nuestros miembros fructificando para muerte.
For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.
For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were through the law worked in our members to bring out fruit to death.
Agora, entretanto, vocês foram libertos da Lei, porque morreram para aquilo que antes os prendia. Assim, agora vocês são livres para servir a Deus não da maneira antiga, obedecendo à velha forma da Lei escrita, mas da maneira nova, obedecendo ao Espírito de Deus.
Mas ahora estamos libres de la ley, habiendo muerto á aquella en la cual estábamos detenidos, para que sirvamos en novedad de espíritu, y no en vejez de letra.
But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.
But now we have been discharged from the law, having died to that in which we were held; so that we serve in newness of the spirit, and not in oldness of the letter.
Será que estou sugerindo que a Lei de Deus é má? Claro que não! Eu não teria conhecido o pecado, a não ser pela Lei. Eu não conheceria o que é cobiça se a lei não dissesse: “Não cobice!”
¿Qué pues diremos? ¿La ley es pecado? En ninguna manera. Empero yo no conocí el pecado sino por la ley: porque tampoco conociera la concupiscencia, si la ley no dijera: No codiciarás.
What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.
What shall we say then? Is the law sin? May it never be! However, I wouldn’t have known sin except through the law. For I wouldn’t have known coveting unless the law had said, “You shall not covet.”
O pecado, no entanto, se aproveitou dessa Lei para despertar em mim todo tipo de desejo cobiçoso. Somente se não houvesse leis para serem quebradas é que não haveria pecado.
Mas el pecado, tomando ocasión, obró en mí por el mandamiento toda concupiscencia: porque sin la ley el pecado está muerto.
But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.
But sin, finding occasion through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of coveting. For apart from the law, sin is dead.
Antes eu vivia sem a Lei, mas quando a Lei veio ela despertou o pecado em mim e então eu morri.
Así que, yo sin la ley vivía por algún tiempo: mas venido el mandamiento, el pecado revivió, y yo morí.
For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.
I was alive apart from the law once, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died.
Portanto, no que dizia respeito a mim, a boa Lei que deveria mostrar-me o caminho da vida, em vez disso me trouxe a morte.
Y hallé que el mandamiento, intimado para vida, para mí era mortal:
And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.
The commandment which was for life, this I found to be for death;
O pecado me enganou, tomando as boas leis de Deus e usando-as para me fazer culpado de morte.
Porque el pecado, tomando ocasión, me engañó por el mandamiento, y por él me mató.
For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.
for sin, finding occasion through the commandment, deceived me, and through it killed me.
Mas, como vocês veem, a Lei em si é santa, justa e boa.
De manera que la ley á la verdad es santa, y el mandamiento santo, y justo, y bueno.
Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.
Therefore the law indeed is holy, and the commandment holy, righteous, and good.
Mas como pode ser isso? A Lei que era boa me levou à morte? De forma alguma! Foi o pecado que fez isso. Pois o pecado, usando o que era bom, me trouxe a morte para que ficasse bem claro o que o pecado realmente é. Porquanto o pecado utilizou-se das boas leis de Deus para seus próprios fins perversos.
¿Luego lo que es bueno, á mí me es hecho muerte? No; sino que el pecado, para mostrarse pecado, por lo bueno me obró la muerte, haciéndose pecado sobremanera pecante por el mandamiento.
Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.
Did then that which is good become death to me? May it never be! But sin, that it might be shown to be sin, was producing death in me through that which is good; that through the commandment sin might become exceedingly sinful.
Sabemos que a Lei é espiritual, e a dificuldade não está com ela e sim comigo, pois estou vendido como escravo ao pecado.
Porque sabemos que la ley es espiritual; mas yo soy carnal, vendido á sujeción del pecado.
For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am fleshly, sold under sin.
Não entendo o que faço. Pois realmente quero fazer o que é correto, porém não consigo. Faço, sim, aquilo que eu odeio.
Porque lo que hago, no lo entiendo; ni lo que quiero, hago; antes lo que aborrezco, aquello hago.
For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.
For I don’t understand what I am doing. For I don’t practice what I desire to do; but what I hate, that I do.
Se faço o que não quero, isso prova que a Lei em si é boa.
Y si lo que no quiero, esto hago, apruebo que la ley es buena.
If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.
But if what I don’t desire, that I do, I consent to the law that it is good.
Nesse caso, não o posso evitar por mim mesmo, porque já não sou eu que estou fazendo, mas o pecado que está dentro de mim.
De manera que ya no obro aquello, sino el pecado que mora en mí.
Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
So now it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me.
Eu sei que estou completamente corrompido no que diz respeito à minha velha natureza pecaminosa. Porque tenho o desejo de fazer o que é bom, mas não consigo fazê-lo.
Y yo sé que en mí (es á saber, en mi carne) no mora el bien: porque tengo el querer, mas efectuar el bien no lo alcanzo.
For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing. For desire is present with me, but I don’t find it doing that which is good.
Quando quero fazer o bem, não o faço; e o mal que não quero fazer, esse eu acabo fazendo.
Porque no hago el bien que quiero; mas el mal que no quiero, éste hago.
For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
For the good which I desire, I don’t do; but the evil which I don’t desire, that I practice.
Ora, se estou fazendo aquilo que não quero, é simples dizer onde está a dificuldade: É o pecado que ainda está dentro de mim.
Y si hago lo que no quiero, ya no lo obro yo, sino el pecado que mora en mí.
Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
But if what I don’t desire, that I do, it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me.
Quando quero fazer o bem, faço inevitavelmente o que é mau.
Así que, queriendo yo hacer el bien, hallo esta ley: Que el mal está en mí.
I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
I find then the law that, while I desire to do good, evil is present.
Quanto à minha nova natureza, eu tenho prazer na Lei de Deus;
Porque según el hombre interior, me deleito en la ley de Dios:
For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
For I delight in God’s law after the inward person,
contudo existe uma outra lei atuando nos membros do meu corpo, que está em guerra com a minha mente, fazendo-me prisioneiro da lei do pecado que age no meu corpo.
Mas veo otra ley en mis miembros, que se rebela contra la ley de mi espíritu, y que me lleva cautivo á la ley del pecado que está en mis miembros.
But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity under the law of sin which is in my members.
Que situação terrível, esta em que me encontro! Quem é que me livrará deste corpo que me leva à morte?
¡Miserable hombre de mí! ¿quién me librará del cuerpo de esta muerte?
O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
What a wretched man I am! Who will deliver me out of the body of this death?
Mas graças a Deus por meio de Jesus Cristo, nosso Senhor! Em minha mente eu sou escravo da Lei de Deus; mas na minha natureza carnal sirvo a lei do pecado.
Gracias doy á Dios, por Jesucristo Señor nuestro. Así que, yo mismo con la mente sirvo á la ley de Dios, mas con la carne á la ley del pecado.
I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
I thank God through Jesus Christ, our Lord! So then with the mind, I myself serve God’s law, but with the flesh, sin’s law.
