J’éprouve une grande tristesse, et j’ai dans le cœur un chagrin continuel.
Que tengo gran tristeza y continuo dolor en mi corazón.
That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.

Car je voudrais moi-même être anathème et séparé de Christ pour mes frères, mes parents selon la chair,

For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:

Ce n’est point à dire que la parole de Dieu soit restée sans effet. Car tous ceux qui descendent d’Israël ne sont pas Israël,
No empero que la palabra de Dios haya faltado: porque no todos los que son de Israel son Israelitas;
Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:
But it is not as though the word of God has come to nothing. For they are not all Israel that are of Israel.
et, pour être la postérité d’Abraham, ils ne sont pas tous ses enfants; mais il est dit: En Isaac sera nommée pour toi une postérité,
Ni por ser simiente de Abraham, son todos hijos; mas: En Isaac te será llamada simiente.
Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.
Neither, because they are Abraham’s offspring, are they all children. But, “your offspring will be accounted as from Isaac.”
c’est-à-dire que ce ne sont pas les enfants de la chair qui sont enfants de Dieu, mais que ce sont les enfants de la promesse qui sont regardés comme la postérité.
Quiere decir: No los que son hijos de la carne, éstos son los hijos de Dios; mas los que son hijos de la promesa, son contados en la generación.
That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.
That is, it is not the children of the flesh who are children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as heirs.
Voici, en effet, la parole de la promesse: Je reviendrai à cette même époque, et Sara aura un fils.
Porque la palabra de la promesa es esta: Como en este tiempo vendré, y tendrá Sara un hijo.
For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sara shall have a son.
For this is a word of promise: “At the appointed time I will come, and Sarah will have a son.”
Et, de plus, il en fut ainsi de Rébecca, qui conçut du seul Isaac notre père;

J’ai aimé Jacob Et j’ai haï Ésaü.
Como está escrito: A Jacob amé, mas á Esaú aborrecí.
As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.
Even as it is written, “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”
Que dirons-nous donc? Y a-t-il en Dieu de l’injustice? Loin de là!
¿Pues qué diremos? ¿Que hay injusticia en Dios? En ninguna manera.
What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.

Car il dit à Moïse: Je ferai miséricorde à qui je fais miséricorde, et j’aurai compassion de qui j’ai compassion.
Mas á Moisés dice: Tendré misericordia del que tendré misericordia, y me compadeceré del que me compadeceré.
For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.

Ainsi donc, cela ne dépend ni de celui qui veut, ni de celui qui court, mais de Dieu qui fait miséricorde.
Así que no es del que quiere, ni del que corre, sino de Dios que tiene misericordia.
So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.
So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who has mercy.
Car l’Écriture dit à Pharaon: Je t’ai suscité à dessein pour montrer en toi ma puissance, et afin que mon nom soit publié par toute la terre.
Porque la Escritura dice de Faraón: Que para esto mismo te he levantado, para mostrar en ti mi potencia, y que mi nombre sea anunciado por toda la tierra.
For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.
For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I caused you to be raised up, that I might show in you my power, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”
Ainsi, il fait miséricorde à qui il veut, et il endurcit qui il veut.
De manera que del que quiere tiene misericordia; y al que quiere, endurece.
Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.
So then, he has mercy on whom he desires, and he hardens whom he desires.
Tu me diras: Pourquoi blâme-t-il encore? Car qui est-ce qui résiste à sa volonté?
Me dirás pues: ¿Por qué, pues, se enoja? porque ¿quién resistirá á su voluntad?
Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will?
You will say then to me, “Why does he still find fault? For who withstands his will?”
O homme, toi plutôt, qui es-tu pour contester avec Dieu? Le vase d’argile dira-t-il à celui qui l’a formé: Pourquoi m’as-tu fait ainsi?
Mas antes, oh hombre, ¿quién eres tú, para que alterques con Dios? Dirá el vaso de barro al que le labró: ¿Por qué me has hecho tal?
Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?
But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed ask him who formed it, “Why did you make me like this?”
Le potier n’est-il pas maître de l’argile, pour faire avec la même masse un vase d’honneur et un vase d’un usage vil?
¿O no tiene potestad el alfarero para hacer de la misma masa un vaso para honra, y otro para vergüenza?
Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?
Or hasn’t the potter a right over the clay, from the same lump to make one part a vessel for honor, and another for dishonor?
Et que dire, si Dieu, voulant montrer sa colère et faire connaître sa puissance, a supporté avec une grande patience des vases de colère formés pour la perdition,
¿Y qué, si Dios, queriendo mostrar la ira y hacer notoria su potencia, soportó con mucha mansedumbre los vasos de ira preparados para muerte,
What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:
What if God, willing to show his wrath and to make his power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction,
et s’il a voulu faire connaître la richesse de sa gloire envers des vases de miséricorde qu’il a d’avance préparés pour la gloire?
Y para hacer notorias las riquezas de su gloria, mostrólas para con los vasos de misericordia que él ha preparado para gloria;
And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,
and that he might make known the riches of his glory on vessels of mercy, which he prepared beforehand for glory—
Ainsi nous a-t-il appelés, non seulement d’entre les Juifs, mais encore d’entre les païens,
Los cuales también ha llamado, es á saber, á nosotros, no sólo de los Judíos, mas también de los Gentiles?
Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?

As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved.

et là où on leur disait: Vous n’êtes pas mon peuple! Ils seront appelés fils du Dieu vivant.
Y será, que en el lugar donde les fué dicho: Vosotros no sois pueblo mío: allí serán llamados hijos del Dios viviente.
And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.
“It will be that in the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’ there they will be called ‘children of the living God.’”
Ésaïe, de son côté, s’écrie au sujet d’Israël: Quand le nombre des fils d’Israël serait comme le sable de la mer, Un reste seulement sera sauvé.
También Isaías clama tocante á Israel: Si fuere el número de los hijos de Israel como la arena de la mar, las reliquias serán salvas:
Esaias also crieth concerning Israel, Though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, a remnant shall be saved:
Isaiah cries concerning Israel, “If the number of the children of Israel are as the sand of the sea, it is the remnant who will be saved;
Car le Seigneur exécutera pleinement et promptement sur la terre ce qu’il a résolu.
Porque palabra consumadora y abreviadora en justicia, porque palabra abreviada, hará el Señor sobre la tierra.
For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.
for he will finish the work and cut it short in righteousness, because the Lord will make a short work upon the earth.”
Et, comme Ésaïe l’avait dit auparavant: Si le Seigneur des armées Ne nous eût laissé une postérité, nous serions devenus comme Sodome, nous aurions été semblables à Gomorrhe.
Y como antes dijo Isaías: Si el Señor de los ejércitos no nos hubiera dejado simiente, como Sodoma habríamos venido á ser, y á Gomorra fuéramos semejantes.
And as Esaias said before, Except the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been as Sodoma, and been made like unto Gomorrha.
As Isaiah has said before, “Unless the Lord of Armies had left us a seed, we would have become like Sodom, and would have been made like Gomorrah.”
Que dirons-nous donc? Les païens, qui ne cherchaient pas la justice, ont obtenu la justice, la justice qui vient de la foi,
¿Pues qué diremos? Que los Gentiles que no seguían justicia, han alcanzado la justicia, es á saber, la justicia que es por la fe;
What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.
What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, who didn’t follow after righteousness, attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith;
tandis qu’Israël, qui cherchait une loi de justice, n’est pas parvenu à cette loi.
Mas Israel que seguía la ley de justicia, no ha llegado á la ley de justicia.
But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.
but Israel, following after a law of righteousness, didn’t arrive at the law of righteousness.
Pourquoi? Parce qu’Israël l’a cherchée, non par la foi, mais comme provenant des œuvres. Ils se sont heurtés contre la pierre d’achoppement,
¿Por qué? Porque la seguían no por fe, mas como por las obras de la ley: por lo cual tropezaron en la piedra de tropiezo,
Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;
Why? Because they didn’t seek it by faith, but as it were by works of the law. They stumbled over the stumbling stone,
selon qu’il est écrit: Voici, je mets en Sion une pierre d’achoppement Et un rocher de scandale, Et celui qui croit en lui ne sera point confus.
Como está escrito: He aquí pongo en Sión piedra de tropiezo, y piedra de caída; y aquel que creyere en ella, no será avergonzado.
As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
even as it is written, “Behold, I lay in Zion a stumbling stone and a rock of offense; and no one who believes in him will be disappointed.”
