1Escribo yo, Pablo, esclavo de Dios y mensajero a quien Jesucristo llamó y envió a llevar la fe a los escogidos de Dios y a instruirlos en la verdad que enseña nuestra religión.
2Esperamos la vida eterna que Dios, que no puede mentir, prometió desde antes de la creación del mundo;
3y ahora, a su debido tiempo, ha cumplido esta promesa por medio de las buenas noticias que, por mandato de Dios, nuestro Salvador, me han sido encomendadas proclamar.
4A Tito, verdadero hijo mío en la fe que compartimos: Que Dios el Padre y Cristo Jesús nuestro Salvador te den su amor y paz.
5Te dejé en la isla de Creta para que pusieras en orden lo que quedó pendiente y te pedí que nombraras líderes en las iglesias de cada pueblo, de acuerdo con las instrucciones que te di.
6El líder que escojas debe ser irreprochable y debe tener sólo una esposa; sus hijos deben ser creyentes y no deben tener fama de disolutos o desobedientes.
7El líder es uno que supervisa la obra de Dios, y por eso debe ser irreprensible; no debe ser arrogante ni colérico, no debe ser dado a la bebida ni a las riñas, ni debe ganar dinero de manera deshonesta;
8debe ser hospitalario, amigo del bien, sensato, justo, santo y disciplinado.
9Su fe en las verdades que hemos enseñado debe ser firme, para que pueda enseñarlas y convencer a los que la contradicen,
10porque hay muchos que son rebeldes, especialmente entre los que dicen que uno debe circuncidarse. Estos son también habladores y engañadores.
11Es preciso taparles la boca, pues en su afán por ganar dinero enseñando lo que no deben, ya han apartado de la verdad a varias familias.
12Uno de sus propios profetas dijo lo siguiente: «Los cretenses son siempre mentirosos, malas bestias, glotones y perezosos».
13Y dijo la verdad. Por eso, repréndelos con severidad, para que se robustezcan en la fe
14y no hagan caso a las fábulas judaicas ni a mandamientos de individuos que se han alejado de la verdad.
15El que es puro de verdad, todo lo ve puro; pero los que tienen el corazón podrido y lleno de incredulidad lo ven todo malo, porque su mente y su conciencia corrompidas desfiguran lo que ven.
16Dicen que conocen a Dios, pero en la práctica demuestran no conocerlo. Son odiosos, desobedientes e incapaces de hacer lo bueno.

1PABLO, siervo de Dios, y apóstol de Jesucristo, según la fe de los escogidos de Dios, y el conocimiento de la verdad que es según la piedad,
2Para la esperanza de la vida eterna, la cual Dios, que no puede mentir, prometió antes de los tiempos de los siglos,
3Y manifestó á sus tiempos su palabra por la predicación, que me es á mí encomendada por mandamiento de nuestro Salvador Dios;
4A Tito, verdadero hijo en la común fe: Gracia, misericordia, y paz de Dios Padre, y del Señor Jesucristo Salvador nuestro.
5Por esta causa te dejé en Creta, para que corrigieses lo que falta, y pusieses ancianos por las villas, así como yo te mandé:
6El que fuere sin crimen, marido de una mujer, que tenga hijos fieles que no estén acusados de disolución, ó contumaces.
7Porque es menester que el obispo sea sin crimen, como dispensador de Dios; no soberbio, no iracundo, no amador del vino, no heridor, no codicioso de torpes ganancias;
8Sino hospedador, amador de lo bueno, templado, justo, santo, continente;
9Retenedor de la fiel palabra que es conforme á la doctrina: para que también pueda exhortar con sana doctrina, y convencer á los que contradijeren.
10Porque hay aún muchos contumaces, habladores de vanidades, y engañadores de las almas, mayormente los que son de la circuncisión,
11A los cuales es preciso tapar la boca; que trastornan casas enteras; enseñando lo que no conviene, por torpe ganancia.
12Dijo uno de ellos, propio profeta de ellos: Los Cretenses, siempre mentirosos, malas bestias, vientres perezosos.
13Este testimonio es verdadero: por tanto, repréndelos duramente, para que sean sanos en la fe,
14No atendiendo á fábulas judaicas, y á mandamientos de hombres que se apartan de la verdad.
15Todas las cosas son limpias á los limpios; mas á los contaminados é infieles nada es limpio: antes su alma y conciencia están contaminadas.
16Profésanse conocer á Dios; mas con los hechos lo niegan, siendo abominables y rebeldes, reprobados para toda buena obra.

1Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;
2In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
3But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;
4To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.
5For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:
6If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.
7For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;
8But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
9Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
10For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:
11Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake.
12One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies.
13This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;
14Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.
15Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.
16They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

1Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s chosen ones and the knowledge of the truth which is according to godliness,
2in hope of eternal life, which God, who can’t lie, promised before time began;
3but in his own time revealed his word in the message with which I was entrusted according to the commandment of God our Savior,
4to Titus, my true child according to a common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior.
5I left you in Crete for this reason, that you would set in order the things that were lacking and appoint elders in every city, as I directed you—
6if anyone is blameless, the husband of one wife, having children who believe, who are not accused of loose or unruly behavior.
7For the overseer must be blameless, as God’s steward, not self-pleasing, not easily angered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for dishonest gain;
8but given to hospitality, a lover of good, sober minded, fair, holy, self-controlled,
9holding to the faithful word which is according to the teaching, that he may be able to exhort in the sound doctrine, and to convict those who contradict him.
10For there are also many unruly men, vain talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision,
11whose mouths must be stopped: men who overthrow whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for dishonest gain’s sake.
12One of them, a prophet of their own, said, “Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, and idle gluttons.”

14not paying attention to Jewish fables and commandments of men who turn away from the truth.
15To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure; but both their mind and their conscience are defiled.
16They profess that they know God, but by their deeds they deny him, being abominable, disobedient, and unfit for any good work.
