a fim de que tenham a vida eterna, que Deus lhes prometeu antes do princípio do mundo; e ele não pode mentir.

Deixei-o aí, na ilha de Creta, a fim de que você pudesse fazer tudo quanto fosse necessário e pusesse em ordem o que ainda faltava e que nomeasse, em cada cidade, líderes que seguissem as instruções que eu lhe dei.
Por esta causa te dejé en Creta, para que corrigieses lo que falta, y pusieses ancianos por las villas, así como yo te mandé:

Os líderes que você escolher devem ser bem conceituados, e que ninguém possa culpá-los de nada; devem ser maridos de uma só mulher, e seus filhos devem amar ao Senhor e não ter fama de desordeiros ou ser desobedientes a seus pais.
El que fuere sin crimen, marido de una mujer, que tenga hijos fieles que no estén acusados de disolución, ó contumaces.
If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.

Os bispos devem ser homens de vida irrepreensível, porque são ministros de Deus. Não devem ser orgulhosos, nem briguentos; não devem ter o vício da bebida, nem ser violentos, nem ser gananciosos por dinheiro.
Porque es menester que el obispo sea sin crimen, como dispensador de Dios; no soberbio, no iracundo, no amador del vino, no heridor, no codicioso de torpes ganancias;
For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;
For the overseer must be blameless, as God’s steward, not self-pleasing, not easily angered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for dishonest gain;
Devem gostar de ter hóspedes em casa e amar o bem. Devem ser homens sensatos e justos. Devem ter a mente pura e ser dotados de domínio próprio.
Sino hospedador, amador de lo bueno, templado, justo, santo, continente;
But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
but given to hospitality, a lover of good, sober minded, fair, holy, self-controlled,
Sua crença na verdade que lhes foi ensinada deve ser forte e firme, a fim de que possam ensiná-la aos outros e mostrar aos que discordam deles onde é que estão errados.
Retenedor de la fiel palabra que es conforme á la doctrina: para que también pueda exhortar con sana doctrina, y convencer á los que contradijeren.
Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

Pois há muitos que se recusam a obedecer. Isto é verdade especialmente entre aqueles que dizem que todos os fiéis devem ser circuncidados. Eles não passam de faladores e enganadores.
Porque hay aún muchos contumaces, habladores de vanidades, y engañadores de las almas, mayormente los que son de la circuncisión,
For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:

E é preciso fazê-los calar. Famílias inteiras já foram desviadas da graça de Deus. Esses mestres estão apenas atrás do dinheiro de vocês.
A los cuales es preciso tapar la boca; que trastornan casas enteras; enseñando lo que no conviene, por torpe ganancia.
Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake.

Um deles, um profeta nascido em Creta, disse a respeito deles: “Estes homens de Creta são todos mentirosos; são como animais preguiçosos e só vivem para encher a barriga”.

E isso é uma verdade. Portanto, fale aos fiéis daí tão severamente quanto necessário para fazê-los fortes na fé,

Uma pessoa pura de coração vê virtude e pureza em tudo; mas uma pessoa cujo coração é maligno e descrente acha maldade em tudo, pois sua mente impura e sua consciência rebelde estão corrompidas.
Todas las cosas son limpias á los limpios; mas á los contaminados é infieles nada es limpio: antes su alma y conciencia están contaminadas.
Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.

Tais pessoas alegam que conhecem a Deus, mas seus atos o negam. São corruptas e desobedientes, imprestáveis para fazer qualquer coisa boa.
Profésanse conocer á Dios; mas con los hechos lo niegan, siendo abominables y rebeldes, reprobados para toda buena obra.
They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
