Paulus, Knecht Gottes, Apostel Jesu Christi, nach dem Glauben der Auserwählten Gottes und der Erkenntnis der Wahrheit, die zur Gottseligkeit führt,

Auf Hoffnung des ewigen Lebens, das der Gott, Der nicht trügt, vor ewigen Zeiten verheißen,

Aber zu Seiner Zeit Sein Wort geoffenbart hat durch die Predigt, die mir vertraut worden ist nach dem Befehle Gottes, unseres Heilandes:

Titus, meinem rechtschaffenen Sohn im gemeinsamen Glauben, Gnade, Barmherzigkeit, Friede von Gott dem Vater und dem Herrn Jesus Christus, unserem Heiland.

Ich ließ dich deshalb in Kreta, daß du das noch übrige in Ordnung brächtest und in den Städten Älteste bestelltest, wie ich dir geboten hatte.

Por esta causa te dejé en Creta, para que corrigieses lo que falta, y pusieses ancianos por las villas, así como yo te mandé:

For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:

Wenn einer unbescholten, eines Weibes Mann ist, gläubige Kinder hat, und die nicht im Geruche der Schwelgerei und unordentlichen Wandels stehen.

El que fuere sin crimen, marido de una mujer, que tenga hijos fieles que no estén acusados de disolución, ó contumaces.

If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.

Denn ein Bischof soll unbescholten sein, als ein Haushalter Gottes, nicht anmaßend, leidenschaftlich, dem Trunk ergeben, streitsüchtig, nicht schändlichem Gewinn nachgehend,

Porque es menester que el obispo sea sin crimen, como dispensador de Dios; no soberbio, no iracundo, no amador del vino, no heridor, no codicioso de torpes ganancias;

For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;

For the overseer must be blameless, as God’s steward, not self-pleasing, not easily angered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for dishonest gain;

Sondern gastfrei, allen Guten befreundet, besonnen, gerecht, heilig, enthaltsam,

Sino hospedador, amador de lo bueno, templado, justo, santo, continente;

But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;

but given to hospitality, a lover of good, sober minded, fair, holy, self-controlled,

Und halte an dem Wort und der zuverlässigen Lehre, auf daß er tüchtig sei, auch in der heilsamen Lehre zu ermahnen und die, so widersprechen, zurechtzuweisen.

Retenedor de la fiel palabra que es conforme á la doctrina: para que también pueda exhortar con sana doctrina, y convencer á los que contradijeren.

Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

holding to the faithful word which is according to the teaching, that he may be able to exhort in the sound doctrine, and to convict those who contradict him.

Denn es gibt viele, die sich der Lehre nicht fügen wollen, unnütze Schwätzer und Verführer, besonders solche aus der Beschneidung, die man zum Schweigen bringen muß;

Porque hay aún muchos contumaces, habladores de vanidades, y engañadores de las almas, mayormente los que son de la circuncisión,

For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:

Sie verwirren ganze Häuser, und lehren, was nichts taugt, um schmählichen Gewinnes willen.

A los cuales es preciso tapar la boca; que trastornan casas enteras; enseñando lo que no conviene, por torpe ganancia.

Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake.

So sagte einer von ihnen, ihr eigener Prophet: Die Kreter sind immer Lügner, böse Tiere, faule Bäuche.

Dies Zeugnis ist wahr; deshalb weise sie strenge zurecht, auf daß sie im Glauben gesund seien,

Den Reinen ist alles rein, den Befleckten aber und Ungläubigen ist nichts rein, sondern ihr Verstand und Gewissen sind befleckt.

Todas las cosas son limpias á los limpios; mas á los contaminados é infieles nada es limpio: antes su alma y conciencia están contaminadas.

Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.

To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure; but both their mind and their conscience are defiled.

Sie sagen, sie kennen Gott, verleugnen Ihn aber mit den Werken, sind greuelhaft und ungehorsam und zu allem guten Werke untüchtig.

Profésanse conocer á Dios; mas con los hechos lo niegan, siendo abominables y rebeldes, reprobados para toda buena obra.

They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
