Los judíos de la ciudad de Betel habían enviado un grupo de hombres encabezados por Sarézer, principal funcionario administrativo del rey, y a Reguen Mélec, al templo del Señor, en Jerusalén. El motivo de la visita era, además de pedir la ayuda del Señor,

Cuando fué enviado á la casa de Dios, Saraser, con Regem-melech y sus hombres, á implorar el favor de Jehová,

When they had sent unto the house of God Sherezer and Regem-melech, and their men, to pray before the LORD,

The people of Bethel sent Sharezer and Regem Melech and their men to entreat the LORD’s favor,
