Hermanos y hermanas, ustedes mismos saben lo que significó nuestra visita para ustedes, y que no fue en vano.

PORQUE, hermanos, vosotros mismos sabéis que nuestra entrada á vosotros no fué vana:

For yourselves, brethren, know our entrance in unto you, that it was not in vain:

For you yourselves know, brothers, our visit to you wasn’t in vain,

Recordarán que después de muchas dificultades y maltrato en Filipos, con la ayuda de Dios nos atrevimos así a compartir la buena noticia de Dios con ustedes, a pesar de la oposición que enfrentamos.

Pues aun habiendo padecido antes, y sido afrentados en Filipos, como sabéis, tuvimos denuedo en Dios nuestro para anunciaros el evangelio de Dios con gran combate.

But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention.

but having suffered before and been shamefully treated, as you know, at Philippi, we grew bold in our God to tell you the Good News of God in much conflict.

Pues lo que hablamos no es engaño, ni es algo inútil, y tampoco un fraude.

Porque nuestra exhortación no fué de error, ni de inmundicia, ni por engaño;

For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile:

For our exhortation is not of error, nor of uncleanness, nor in deception.

Por el contrario, tenemos la aprobación de Dios para lo que decimos, pues él nos ha encomendado compartir la buena noticia. No nos disponemos a agradar a la gente, sino a Dios. Porque Él es el único que juzga nuestras intenciones.

Sino según fuimos aprobados de Dios para que se nos encargase el evangelio, así hablamos; no como los que agradan á los hombres, sino á Dios, el cual prueba nuestros corazones.

But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.

But even as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News, so we speak—not as pleasing men, but God, who tests our hearts.

Como saben, nunca usamos palabras de adulación. Ni estuvimos encubriendo ninguna actitud codiciosa o egoísta, pues Dios es nuestro testigo.

Porque nunca fuimos lisonjeros en la palabra, como sabéis, ni tocados de avaricia; Dios es testigo;

For neither at any time used we flattering words, as ye know, nor a cloke of covetousness; God is witness:

For neither were we at any time found using words of flattery, as you know, nor a cloak of covetousness (God is witness),

Nuestra intención no era ganar la alabanza de nadie, ni la de ustedes, ni la de los demás. Nos hubiéramos convertido en un “carga” para ustedes como mensajeros de Cristo;

Ni buscamos de los hombres gloria, ni de vosotros, ni de otros, aunque podíamos seros carga como apóstoles de Cristo.

Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.

nor seeking glory from men (neither from you nor from others), when we might have claimed authority as apostles of Christ.

pero en lugar de ello actuamos con amabilidad entre ustedes, como una madre amorosa que cuida de sus propios hijos.

Antes fuimos blandos entre vosotros como la que cría, que regala á sus hijos:

But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children:

But we were gentle among you, like a nursing mother cherishes her own children.

Nuestro amor era tan grande que nos deleitamos en compartir con ustedes no solo la buena noticia de Dios, sino que además nos entregamos nosotros mismos, porque se volvieron muy amados para nosotros.

Tan amadores de vosotros, que quisiéramos entregaros no sólo el evangelio de Dios, mas aun nuestras propias almas; porque nos erais carísimos.

So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because ye were dear unto us.

Even so, affectionately longing for you, we were well pleased to impart to you not the Good News of God only, but also our own souls, because you had become very dear to us.

¿No recuerdan, hermanos y hermanas, nuestro arduo trabajo, día y noche, para no ser carga para ninguno mientras les compartíamos la buena noticia?

Porque ya, hermanos, os acordáis de nuestro trabajo y fatiga: que trabajando de noche y de día por no ser gravosos á ninguno de vosotros, os predicamos el evangelio de Dios.

For ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail: for labouring night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you, we preached unto you the gospel of God.

For you remember, brothers, our labor and travail; for working night and day, that we might not burden any of you, we preached to you the Good News of God.

Ustedes mismos y Dios pueden dar testimonio de nuestros actos, y cómo tratamos a los creyentes con una actitud santa, justa e intachable.

Vosotros sois testigos, y Dios, de cuán santa y justa é irreprensiblemente nos condujimos con vosotros que creísteis:

Ye are witnesses, and God also, how holily and justly and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you that believe:

You are witnesses with God how holy, righteously, and blamelessly we behaved ourselves toward you who believe.

Saben cómo nos interesamos por cada uno de ustedes como un padre que cuida de sus propios hijos. Los animamos, los consolamos, y compartimos con ustedes nuestra experiencia

Así como sabéis de qué modo exhortábamos y consolábamos á cada uno de vosotros, como el padre á sus hijos,

As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children,

As you know, we exhorted, comforted, and implored every one of you, as a father does his own children,

para que pudieran vivir como Dios quiere, el mismo Dios que los llama a su propio reino y gloria.

Y os protestábamos que anduvieseis como es digno de Dios, que os llamó á su reino y gloria.

That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.

to the end that you should walk worthily of God, who calls you into his own Kingdom and glory.

Hay otra cosa, y es que siempre le damos gracias a Dios porque cuando ustedes escucharon y aceptaron su palabra, no la recibieron como si fueran palabras humanas, sino como lo que realmente es: como la palabra de Dios. Y esto es lo que obra en los que creen en él.

Por lo cual, también nosotros damos gracias á Dios sin cesar, de que habiendo recibido la palabra de Dios que oísteis de nosotros, recibisteis no palabra de hombres, sino según es en verdad, la palabra de Dios, el cual obra en vosotros los que creísteis.

For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

For this cause we also thank God without ceasing that when you received from us the word of the message of God, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, God’s word, which also works in you who believe.

Hermanos y hermanas, la experiencia que ustedes han tenido es semejante a la de aquellas iglesias de Dios que pertenecen a Cristo y están en Judá. Así como sus hermanos los judíos cristianos sufrieron en manos de líderes judíos,

Porque vosotros, hermanos, habéis sido imitadores de las iglesias de Dios en Cristo Jesús que están en Judea; pues habéis padecido también vosotros las mismas cosas de los de vuestra propia nación, como también ellos de los Judíos;

For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God which in Judaea are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have suffered like things of your own countrymen, even as they have of the Jews:

For you, brothers, became imitators of the assemblies of God which are in Judea in Christ Jesus; for you also suffered the same things from your own countrymen, even as they did from the Jews

quienes mataron al Señor Jesús y a los profetas, y nos persiguieron. Ellos no agradan a Dios y son hostiles con todos,

Los cuales aun mataron al Señor Jesús y á sus propios profetas, y á nosotros nos han perseguido; y no agradan á Dios, y se oponen á todos los hombres;

Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men:

who killed both the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and drove us out, and don’t please God, and are contrary to all men,

tratando de detener nuestra predicación a las otras naciones para impedir que se salven. Ellos siempre están pecando hasta el máximo nivel, pero para ellos ha llegado el juicio con todo su peso.

Prohibiéndonos hablar á los Gentiles, á fin de que se salven, para henchir la medida de sus pecados siempre: pues vino sobre ellos la ira hasta el extremo.

Forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they might be saved, to fill up their sins alway: for the wrath is come upon them to the uttermost.

Hermanos y hermanas, siendo que nos sentimos como si hubiéramos experimentado una separación familiar, pues no los habíamos visto por un tiempo (estábamos separados físicamente pero no en espíritu), intentamos con mayor esfuerzo ir a verlos cara a cara nuevamente porque ese era nuestro deseo.

Mas nosotros, hermanos, privados de vosotros por un poco de tiempo, de vista, no de corazón, tanto más procuramos con mucho deseo ver vuestro rostro.

But we, brethren, being taken from you for a short time in presence, not in heart, endeavoured the more abundantly to see your face with great desire.

But we, brothers, being bereaved of you for a short season in presence, not in heart, tried even harder to see your face with great desire,

En realidad queríamos ir a visitarlos, y yo, Pablo, lo intenté una y otra vez, pero Satanás nos lo impedía.

Por lo cual quisimos ir á vosotros, yo Pablo á la verdad, una vez y otra; mas Satanás nos embarazó.

Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us.

because we wanted to come to you—indeed, I, Paul, once and again—but Satan hindered us.

Pues lo que nos da esperanza, lo que nos da felicidad, lo que nos hace sentir realmente orgullosos al estar en presencia de nuestro Señor Jesucristo cuando regrese, es tenerlos a ustedes allí también.

Porque ¿cuál es nuestra esperanza, ó gozo, ó corona de que me gloríe? ¿No sois vosotros, delante de nuestro Señor Jesucristo en su venida?

For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?

For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Isn’t it even you, before our Lord Jesus at his coming?

¡Ustedes son nuestro orgullo y nuestra alegría!

Que vosotros sois nuestra gloria y gozo.

For ye are our glory and joy.

For you are our glory and our joy.
